The Zumwalt ships were made out of Aluminum and plagued with corrosion and fatigue cracks in its hull. They also had some sort of drive shaft issue which was extremely expensive to fix limiting they're use Rail guns were to expensive. So replacing them with more effective methods is the right thing to do. But a Aluminum hull goes against what the Navy learned decades ago.
LOL do you all not know anything about the U.S. Navy? The Zumwalt and her sister ships are complete and total failures! They failed at every single task they were meant to perform! The line has been canceled and the Navy was to decommission the Zumwalt ships after only 3 years of service. They are the most cost overrun piece of military equipment in our history. In short, the are a complete failure. The Navy is stuck with them because of cost and trying to figure out if they can do something else with them because they failed at being a destroyer.
I would very much like to see a Block II version of this ship, incorporating the lessons learned from the first three, and classified as cruisers to replace the Ticonderoga class.
Stealthy for everyone in Australia for GoodLife healthy future generations mighty force to stopping evils harming Australian country big 💓 special people marsters and stealthy for defence strong support for Australia
It is in the best interest of the US Air Force to continue the B1B program and get the most for most out of it. Even replace some B52's with new B1B's, please!!
No, they most certainly are NOT effective. The Navy deemed them a complete and total failure in all regards. Completely unfit for the tasks they were to perform. The line has been shut down and was the most expensive piece of garbage in the history of our military. The Navy wanted to decommission them but because of the billions spent are trying to find something they are good for. This was the worst military procurement in our history!

@@Mygg_JeagerBecause cruise missles can do only one thing. Are you going to launch a cruise missile to do reconisance work? Cruise missiles cost a LOT. Why launch a cruise missile when a more appropriate missle payload would be more effective? Because Cruise missiles have a large cubic foot "footprint" in a cargo bay. Especially when we have the most advanced targeting in the world, why not carry 12-16 cruise missiles and a few hundred other missiles. Cruise missiles are expendable, one time use, so after a few salvos, the entire ship can't do much else offensively if their only munitions stores are cruise missiles. (They can still act as part of the sensor net, or for close in to protect another part of the battle group, but that is a LOT of wasted resources. We have a vast range of tools at our disposal. Many are multi functional, Many are less cost, many can supplement the roles of a carrier battle group better than cruise missiles alone are. but we both agree, GO NAVY! Semper Fortis!
Forget Lasers "At Sea". At best they might Down a Drone (and only on a Clear Calm Sea day). Any time we have to Stop The Ship & Clean Salt Spay Off The Lens in order to Shoot......????
That is not how the Chinese fleet is configured> Their intent is not a kinetic war with the US. Yes, they are our adversaries, but that is not how and way wars are fought.
you've never heard of a sea whizz? But yes, we are more at risk from a lot of hard to hit little agile targets than we are from a large relatively easy big target. Believe me our tacticians are learning from the success of Ukraine and from how effective the Houthi's are exploiting assymetric warfare. We were already ahead of the game but it is interesting to see in a real kinetic war the lessons from our friends and from our enemies
despite all the posturing, Physical possession by kinetic war is unlikely. Younned to understand how any why countries have wars. China has always for a half dozen centuries considered Taiwan part of it's homeland. Over the last 75 years, they have especially done so. But historic , even near historic wants and needs have changed. In near historic times, they wanted to eliminate the Taiwanese government and wanted the natural resources. More recently The PRC has become increasingly dependent to TSMC. Without TSMC, Chinas manufacturing would go out of business. A kinetc invasion would probably damage TSMC supply, especially when China's economy is so messed up because of the real estate issue. MANY PRC party leaders and oligarchs have vacation homes in Taiwan. MANY PRC party members and oligarchs have stock in the TSE. MANY Taiwanese millionaires have large holdings in the BSE, SSE and SZSE. And Chin has seen the worldwide economic boycotts and embargoes to Russia after the Ukraine invasion. Especially since their real estate and finance industries have been so decimated, they are not going to risk a boycott or embargo. But yes, you can count on sabre rattlers and paper tigers in the US and in China to try to drum up fear and hatred. When it comes down to it money is more important to China. Besides, if they play the long game, and history has shown that they usually do, they will buy out more and more of Taiwan as a purchase of companies and real estate and over fifty or a hundred years, they will just merge without a fight. That is why we need to support the TSE and especially buy TSMC stock (plus it's a GREAT investment) to prevent PRC stock takeover of the company
