US Military off-road vehicle - The M9 Half-Track car
The first half-tracks were delivered to the U.S. Army in May 1941, taking part in military maneuvers in Louisiana and Tennessee. His "baptism of fire" took place against the Japanese in the Philippines (1,942). The following year HALF-TRACK were used in North Africa, in "Operation Torch" and later Tunisian campaign.
Although heavily increased demand for these half-tracks of 7 tons, these vehicles had some problems: did not have superior protection, the thickness of the shield was very limited and both the suspension and cooling suffered frequent mechanical failures. Even so, his contribution both in Europe and in the Pacific, with thousands of units, was very important. Later versions were made M5 and M9.After World War II, this halftrack continued active in other armies, including Israel.
