Here is a cool little video we put together of the pipe making process at U.S. Pipe & Foundry Co. shortly before it closed down in February of 2008. It was a great place to work with great people.

I spent over 18 years in the casting department. Nice to see a lot of the old gang. Thanks for posting this Frank.

1 zard Fuck that place. I worked there for 1 year and saw a guy die inside that place. You had to run for cover if you didnt want to be on fire. You would be covered in soot every minute of a 12 hr work shift. 120 degrees + even in the winter. Not worth my life...good riddance and try working for drill seargant foreman named Lee.

Wow. I miss you all .. lol I worked here in casting on Machine 651 for almost 5 years till the very end. Griffin called looking for casting trough operators. I then worked there till they closed.. I loved my job. Miss it so much and the money. Now I am a PVC welder.

Worked at US Pipe in Birmingham in mid 60's, we computerized the first casting machine with IBM 360/1800, lots of fun.

OMG..I just found this. Thank you. Thank you. My daddy worked there and retired there after 25 years. This is what kept our family a float in the 70s. People didn't believe me. Thank you for posting this.

Great video. I am right now next to this magnificent closed factory in Burlington ,NJ. Sad to see the place is falling apart and right next to is an Amazon facility open up. How ironic America changed! 😢

Did the people there get pensions, retirement, severance pay when they closed?

NJ was the most profitable plant, providing key services to the most dense region of the US. It was a complete waste to close it down. Six Six sigma and lean economics tore it down. Defossett was wrong. I don't care how much money we lose lay them off!

Dumb old six sigma. No capital investment. They squeezed cash out by depreciating assets without Capital Expenses. Forcing Management to work 12 hours a day with no pay.
