Common experiences, needs, and priorities bridge the gap of language. For 33 years I lived in a California city that had a significant number of only Spanish-speaking folks; I have zero facility for anything but English (and I have tried, believe me!). Nevertheless, I'm wicked good at pantomime and reading people so I got along just fine with my neighbors because we were all in the same boat; same needs, same values, same joys. It's politicians and profiteers who want to keep us apart, to divide us. I refuse to play their game.
My grandfather, Paul I Miller, passed away on June 13 of this year 2024. He was with the army from after the battle of the bulge until he met the Russians at the Elbe. Someone please like this comment or reply so I can come back and edit it with more details once I find his service record book. Edit: I found his book and heard more about his service during the funeral service yesterday afternoon. Corporal Paul Irving Miller, born 29 December 1924; served in the United States Army in World War Two. He was with the 30th Infantry Battalion, and saw action in 1945 in the end of the battle of the bulge up until he met with the Russians at the Elbe River. He dedicated his life to the Lord, and when he was drafted, he was given an extension to stay for college, and his boat sailed late and arrived late. He later said that he resented the Army for having taught him that it was okay to hate and okay to kill, and after his honorable discharge in 1950, he began his life of service to the Lord. He pastored in California, Alaska, Oregon, and was a liaison between the Guatemalan government and missionaries all between 1950 and 1980. In 1981 he returned home to Oregon with his wife Patsy and was a pastor again in Talent. He eventually stopped pastoring and was a full time grandfather in the 90’s with exception for four years working as a greeter at Walmart. He passed away on 14 June 2024, and is now undoubtedly rejoicing in the presence of the Lord that he has faithfully served his entire life. Thank you all for your patience, and now I’ve shared more of a full story with you all about my grandfather, his service, and his life after the military.
Прочитал ваши комментарии американцы, и вижу, что вы тоже всё прекрасно понимаете, как и мы, как и все простые люди в мире, которым не дают житья обезумевшие старики!!!

What people forget is that at the time this was filmed, the Soviet Union had just endured what is still considered to be the largest loss of military personnel in any country during modern warfare.
Такие хорошие и добрые лица, такое общее счастье, что, глядя на эти историческое кадры, я заражаюсь их настроением и тоже улыбаюсь ! ❤ И музыка родная, "Катюша".
@@Spaiboeven if it was not a way to greet someone there is nothing wrong with it. But in that case just kissing someone just like that would be fucking weird.
My great uncle got to meet some soviets while he was in 13th tank destoyer group after the war, theres some old pictures of him and a few of them when they met. Even in black and white you could tell they were happy to meet each other and glad the war was over, just a shame the cold war ended up how it did.
They didn't understand the language but they were so close, they shared their love and pain just like a real family It make me really sad to see this, how they were before and how they become now 😢
@@signorasforza354I'm even too lazy to describe the advantages of living in the USSR, although I probably wouldn't have lived in it (since it was boring and there was much less variety in goods than now). Well, tell me what the Soviet union did wrong (let's not be banal and 37 years old because this is a short-term period and conditionally there were purges in the USA too - McCarthyism, but no one blames them)
@@SwedishMeatball09 So why do you praising friendship with those who would with pleasure turn your country in to another DDR-Gulag? Don’t you read comments of those completely innocent and kind ruzzkie who think that everything what Soviets did was right and everything what ruzzia is doing now is right and even not enough?
@@signorasforza354 i just wish they were our allies again but i know it won’t happen for a long time plus when your homeland is uncomfortably close to an enemy you kinda just wish for the best
There is no other sweetest part in the lives of humanity than to have peace and live peacefully in this beautiful world of ours. Let there be peace among nations.
My name comes from my dad’s division in WWII (Division-102). While he was pushing Germany, he met a soviet tanker painting his own tank into the “Rudy-102” livery that he drove (T-34-85). He found out it was a Polish spy and found their forces near Warsaw, soon after, he sadly died because of a Tiger. I cannot forget him.
As a Canadian, this was really sad for me that USSR and the USA were enemies, they could have worked together against terrorism, work together in science and space and guarantee world peace
We met as friends in WWII, then again as enemies in the Cold War, then as friends again in the cold reaches of space aboard the Mir. Let's stop fighting each other and reach for the stars together.
“Greating to the heroes” The misspelling is so charming. They probably had a soldier who spoke passable English, and put him in charge of making that banner.
They were at each-others throats a few years after this… at-least politically they were, but they probably made some good friends on both sides of the line.
@@user-zf8vt1wm7papparently in Europe that is considered as platonic way of showing comradeship for many centuries, of course the people of the other continents would feel weirded out by that, but it's apparently normal to them.
@toniosikorek1290ah yes immediately trying to assimilate foreigners to your beliefs one of the many reasons we damper our own image btw Russia is already mainly Christian just a different type of it
Great memories..my Dad and 20 guys in the Craig Patrol 2nd/273rd meet Russian Cossacks first…4/25/45. They got a BSM for going 25 miles behind German lines.
Those Cossacks were then sent to the Gulag right after…. Although I might be confusing that with Cossacks that joined the Germans and were either sent home to be executed and sent to the gulag, and executed by the British the ones they didn’t hand back over to the Soviets?
Cossacks were ethnocided in 1920s by Bolsheviks. Majority of them were not Russian and of course were against Soviets. What are you talking about I have no idea.
This video speaks volume of love not only for country/land, but its the love they have for one another, even in the midst of blood & death, they never forsake the power of love which kept them going
smh, can't blame American troops for being completely oblivious to the atrocities Russians have commited during WW2, but seeing them greet each other like that makes me sick in the stomach nonetheless.
@@caiusactinunwise1412 ah and America did no atrocities at all. The allies were totally free from commuting any atrocities. It's war both sides will commit atrocities

By the way, at the factories producing Shermans for Lend Lease, workers put bottles of whiskey into the barrels of the guns. Soviet tankman ace Dmitry Loza, who fought on a Sherman, wrote memoirs about how these bottles were broken because the tankers did not know about this gift. Then management ordered to check the gun barrels of new tanks
There is so much amazing footage. It needs to be compiled in a searchable library. With music and narration of course. You think Morgan Freeman might be interested?
@toniosikorek1290 no i wouldnt You are annoying. I know it because I know he was in soviet capture and because he was Stationed at the Elbe. I dont care about Jesus. And How do you know Jesus is real?
I remember a COD 1 quote at the end of the Russian campaign, goes something along the lines : "Dear mother, today I met an american soldier when we crossed the Elbe, although we've never met before, I couldn't help but feel like this man was my brother."
It’s all depends on the leader of the country which is sad…. Trump Recognized that Russia was an ally and fellow comrade of their country and even pushed for an a alliance but, Biden Saw Russia and Vald as a enemy that’s what lead up to the invasion of Ukraine in the first place.
🇷🇺🤝🇺🇲 Russians/Soviet and Americans fraternized on the Elbe like real brothers. Russia and the USA are two great countries. Our countries need to interact more with each other on an equal footing without enmity. Let's better develop science or a space program together, etc., something useful for humanity. Best regards from Russia. Peace and love.
Although your sentiments are nice, a Space program won’t be used for humanity nor will it ever as long as these giant transnational corporations control the banking,, media, education, and world. The world has had more than enough immoral science. JFK predicted 60 years ago that if we don’t change, “science” will enslave us. Sorry to say it. Individuals need to unite. Self discipline and faith in the Self and Higher Power and fellow humanity will be the key starting points to making a true and lasting shifting. Cheers. 💫 💯

Even then, they were only allies of convenience. The US gave the USSR a pass for invading Poland, Finland, Baltics because defeating Germany was a higher priority, but there were always massive ideological differences and relations were never too close. Keep in mind that the USSR also shook hands with Germany in much the same way in 1939, in Poland...

People like each other, no matter the country. The difference lies in the leadership, and before WW2, there were still cold-war esque tensions. Which countries wanted to colonize the RSFSR in the civil war like China?
