I really don't think Pink Floyd intended for this album to sync up so perfectly with the Wizard of Oz, but it does. it truly makes the movie feel more like a dream and immerses you in a way that would not otherwise be possible. I could not come up with a better album to play over this movie. especially with the song Money, for obvious reasons. this will forever be how I choose to watch Wizard of Oz. it makes more "emotional" sense
I have a hard time believing that they didn't do it on purpose just because of how many things line up SO perfectly. If they truly didn't intend it, this is the biggest coincidence in the history of the world. Regardless of how it happened, it is amazing!
If you do the full sync - starting the album over twice to take you through the end of the film - the second time this song plays, on the line "Listen son, said the man with the gun" - the scarecrow is holding a gun.
Whether this is real or not, I feel that some people don't see what the argument is here, and others make too much of it. So let's look at why this synchs. It's the lyrics. It's every part that says "x and y." That's what makes this so convincing, because it's EVERY part, and the timing is perfect in all cases. "Us and them" --> the first people came out dancing "We and you" --> camera frames the second group of dancing people "Black and blue" --> the witch appears. She is wearing black, Dorothy blue. EDIT: And, of course, I forgot the most famous of the matching lines here: "And who knows which it which (witch is witch)," which comes immediately on the heels of the second witch's appearance. Oops! "Up and down" --> the witch is up the hill, and walks down to the house "It's only round and round" --> Dorothy twirls her feat (yes, it's not one of the "x and y" lyrics) "Down and out" --> Dorothy walks down the hill, then the good witch disappears on the "out" lyric and floats up "With / without" --> Dorothy is holding Todo on the "with" and puts him down on the "without" A couple of other key points: First, you get this timed correctly by pressing "play" on side 2 exactly when the movie turns into color. You have to play through the song Money and the intro to Us and Them before it starts to synch, but it's easy to set up yourself. Second, the scene ends the same time as the song. I get that some people are going to say "no way," and others are going to say "duuude, drop some acid, you'll see the WHOLE THING synchs!" But the key takeaway here for any discerning people is that the "x and y" pattern of the song matches every time, without fail. If there was one example where it did not match, and I would say perfectly (it's not easy to think of single words that are a better fit in each case), then the argument would be dead. Some random lyric matching what you see in a movie is just random nonsense. I know that was my first instinct when someone showed me this. But that's not what's happening here.
I think that "black and blue" refers to both wicked witches instead of only one witch and Dorothy. That's because Dorothy mistaken the Witch of the West with the Witch of the East, and Glinda explains they are different, which matches with the lyrics "who knows which is which and who is who" and, after that Glinda and Witch argue (matching with the lyrics "haven't you heard? It's a battle of words").

I love the mashup. But hey, let's say you're not feeling the synch. I can dig that. Considering the film and the music of Pink Floyd as separate complimentary elements is interesting too. Lennon's "imagine" sums it up nice. Rejecting an imagined binary. Eschewing territorial nationism in favor of humanism etc. Each art suggests those themes. Actually i haven't watched Wizard of Oz straight through. I'm sure it has a narrative arc. But the blending of classic Hollywood with sophisticated British rock is what's interesting here. You could imagine infinite variations and hybrids by merely combining two disparate arts in new ways. Ballet and the architecture of the Flat Iron. Coney Island and Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. Braille and Ouija. Peanut butter and syrup. Yarn and public transportation. Diaries from the Oregon Trail and 80s synth. Sultans and hippies. Blues and early Columbian history. Whatever. Dark Side of the Oz is an invitation to artistic creativity

This is the kind pf coincidences that make you beleive that there are really no coincidences at all... there are som f@***nh Eeerie shit in this world and this is one of them.
person_people how do you not see it? Black (the wicked with of the west) and blue (Dorothy’s dress) and who knows which is which (WITCHES) and who is who. I think it’s amazing!!! And there’s plenty of other moments too.
