Hey Erik, How does the hitter know what set is being run? Is the setter calling the set or the hitter?

either can call but usually before the play its the setter.

Or is there a sign that the setter gives during a rally to show where he is going? Or do you guys just know through years of playing together and building chemistry and rapport?

I think it's 1: to save time because of schedules and 2: pros are more precise with their shots so there's less chance of a ball flying everywhere

possibly so there is no advantage with anyone warming up first and then like getting cold while shagging?

Yes. Coach Speraw said just that in an interview during the match vs. Bulgaria. He also wanted to give Ma’a a chance to work through it in the course of a match.

He redeemed himself though at the Bulgaria match. He started shaky but did well overall.

He is a middle he just wore the libero jersey this match, you can watch him playing middle against France.

The USA coach just likes to put a player who isn't playing that match in the libero colors. Literally just because he thinks it's funny to have tall liberos.
