most informative part: These flights aren't JUST the flyover itself, but part of a longer training flight. So in essence the flyover is "free" because it's included into the training mission.

As a tax payer this alone justifies the fuel and expense this is important outreach but how amazing is our military that its coupled with more training. 👍👏

You absolutely must have some sort of onboard computer that quickly calculates for you the airspeed you need to correctly arrive on time. I don’t think you explicitly say so, so it almost implies those are the kinds of things you badasses do in your heads and that would not surprise me either! 😬👏 But seriously if two axel cars have adaptive cruise control I would think F35s would have something that would adjust the throttle to an airspeed calculated by lat/long/hh:mm:ss ?

One of the best flyovers ever was at a nascar race at MIS. The jet was horizontal with the earth and seemingly went vertical over the track and was out of sight in a few seconds. Loved the entire experience.
@kleshreen

From about 1992 to 2008 I was at every MIS NASCAR race, and the flyovers were always so good. Sometimes it was jets, sometimes they were bombers. I definitely remember the one you're talking about. I think they've done that type of thing a few times. I remember at least two times where they did that. Fly in real low and then just space shuttle straight up immediately after they pass over. There's even been a few times where we'll get the flyover during the anthem, and then about 60 seconds later, they come by again with afterburners on and nobody is expecting it.

Every year the squadron would get double the thank you cards - most from folks whose event was near our official flyovers and thought we’d done one just for them!

Former Luke AFB Pro Super here. On Memorial Day several years ago, we launched an F-16 4-ship to do multiple fly-overs at various events/parades/cemeteries around the Valley. Well, the Captain tasked with loading the DTCs with the lat/long of all the venues fucked up and they ended up totally missing one of the events. It was entertaining watching the CC taxi in and quickly shut down his jet so he could go scream at the Captain who screwed the pooch.

While flying F-111Fs at RAF Lakenheath, we were tasked with the missing man flyby at the American Cemetery on Memorial Day. We practiced every day for the week before, including launching 2 spares. It turned out perfect, we flew over at the precise time that the bugler hit the last note.
@nickclark9240
@nickclark9240 2 года назад
And Hazard is correct about it being training. Our operational requirements dictate being TOT at plus or minus 30 seconds, which for a fly by wouldn't work. We needed to be over the cemetery at plus or minus 5 seconds. And this was with analog gages.

My favorite flyover was definitely not planned. Way back when Bama played their big games in Legion Field, I was sitting in the upper deck and the stadium was buzzed twice in the second half of a beatdown of Tennessee by F4's from the ANG flying out of the Birmingham Airport. The fans loved it, but I suspect that one or two pilots got into a lot of trouble for what had to be unauthorized flyovers.

Be it ketchup or airplanes, over the years I produced ,well partially, submarines, ship sections, greenhouses, heating systems for greenhouses, a wide variety of machinery, anything from work on a nuclear reactor to garden fences. Production is all essentially the same. Gather materials work said materials assemble them, test them if required. You could throw in stuff like design and transport. But really at it's core it is all the same thing. So no it does not impress me. I watched a C135 fly over, and that was really cool. The C135 looked like it was flying so slow.

This was so cool to hear the "behind the scenes" of a flyover. I remember about 5 years ago I was at a motoracing event, and U was walking to another spot, and there were trees overhead of me. Next thing I know there's a flyover taking place and scared the absolute shit out of me, to the point I was like waddling like a duck 🤣
