USAF KC-135R Flying low over Portland

I wouldn't have expected to see a KC-135 flying orbits over Portland as low as 1,500 feet, but as it turns out it was holding before doing a flyby at the Portland International Raceway. An interesting fact about this aircraft (62-3507) is that it was built in 1962, making it an astonishing 58 years old!

..today (09/16/21) saw a 747-F (not sure if it was a -400 or -8) make a pass east to west over the city centre when I was at my usual hangout in NW Portland. Was definitely on landing approach (though odd vector as the winds were W/NW) given the sound of the engines. Beautiful sight.

Yeah, it was amazing. I saw it when it was at about 3500’ 82nd and Johnson Creek. I thought it was something for 9/11 because he was orbiting over Downtown for a half hour. Nice shots!

I assumed it was just some sort of exercise as it's not uncommon to see KC-135s flying orbits and holding patterns; the most unusual thing was the low altitude to me. I was trying to get to the Buckman school field to get some clearer shots of it but by the time I got there it had already landed, so unfortunately this was the best shot I got.
