Don, it didn't go over her head; she chose to not feed the animals. They should have talked about, joked about (as Usain was trying to do) so all the people screaming racism would have nothing to say, but she opted to play it safe. Probably on the advice of PR and legal teams. So many cases of real racism in this country and it seems everyone opts to go focus on the inconsequential. If women screamed rape every time someone kissed them, we'd be inured to those who actually get raped. It would make it harder for them to get justice and their accusations would be greeted with scorn or disbelief or apathy. Yet no one seems to get why screaming racism for everything isn't working.

To be fair Usain Bolt isn't the most politically or socially conscious athlete. He's more about making money and being liked, hence why he never makes a stand for any cause.
Abdi Ahmed I'm not saying Ellen's joke was okay but let me give you something to think about. It's important to realize that Blacks in other parts of the world have a different upbringing than Blacks in America & South Africa, where Racism was institutionalised and LEGAL up until recent history. Caribbean Blacks are very integrated with people of different races so usually their causes are more about inequality than related to money, not race. So what's deeply offensive to Black Americans may not hold the same weight with Usain Bolt, ESPECIALLY since he has been on Ellen before, joked around with her and knows her heart. It was wise of Ellen to decline his offer though, because SHE NOW UNDERSTANDS the implication of what she did, even though she meant it as a harmless joke.
