I had the Behringer 1202FX but needed an interface so I sold it and bought the Yamaha MG10XU and they are worlds apart. The Yamaha wins hands down with function, control, sound, effects, output, and just does an amazing job. Never used a Mackie. Great review Jordan, I totally agree with your summary of the Yamaha, bullet proof!

@Don Carlos you are correct, He made a mistake at 4:10. He pointed to the GAIN knobs and called them compressors. So both unites have same number of compressors. These one knob compressors are ok for one mike, but when you start adding more, I find them not very useful. Could be my experience level though.

I just purchased the Yamaha MG10XU. I like the mixer but when I try to playback audio from my desktop computer back to the mixer via the mixer USB port, the audio intermittently drops. I tried different USB cables, disabling other USB devices, and reinstalling the Yamaha Steinberg device driver. I researched online and discovered this is a known problem with the Yamaha Steinberg driver. Had I known the USB connectivity would be this problematic, I would have purchased the Mackie mixer. I originally chose the Yamaha over the Mackie because I have had great experience with Yamaha audio equipment, until now.
@FireAngelOfLondon

I bought a Behringer mixer (the 802) and it came with a faulty power connector; the replacement was so noisy I considered it unusable so that went straight back. I was fortunate that I bought from a supplier that doesn't argue with customers who want to return items they aren't happy with. When I get paid next month I will buy a Yamaha MG series mixer instead, either the MG06X or, more likely, the MG10. Both the MG06X and the MG10 greatly exceed my current requirements but there is very little difference in price and the MG10 leaves me with more room for growth. Behringer used to produce good products but it seems in recent years that has changed dramatically. EDIT: Thanks for this review and your other reviews of these small mixers. They are valuable for someone getting back into the recording world.

@@gobofraggel7383 I got the ZED-16FX myself, eventually. I picked it up used for about $400, new price in my country would be roughly $660. I have been spending a LOT of time deciding which mixer to buy. For a long time I considered buying a Mackie ProFx with 16 or 22 channels. Reason 1: Three levels of EQ, with the mid range being adjustable. Only the Mackies of 16 or more channels have that feature. Reason 2: Considering the amount of instruments that I want to add to the mix now and in the near future, I want to buy enough channels. 16 is enough, 22 is plenty, perhaps too many. Reason 3: Robustness. Reason 4: Mute buttons for each separate channel. The Behringer mixers often do not have those. I ended up getting the A&H instead of the Mackie, for the same reasons. The price isn't that much higher, and the mixer really has 13 separate channels (3 being counted as two each, as they have stereo inputs. Anyway, there are a total of thirteen channel faders. As of right now I am using five line inputs for various synths and a stereo input for my Novation Circuit groovebox. I could still add half a dozen microphones and/or additional instruments, so I am very pleased.

I just ordered a Mackie because I've been having so much audio issues. I assumed it was OBS having issues with my crappy HP computer... never again. No more HP's for me, ever. It's so, so, so, so, so, so slow to open things and has its own Windows sound management which, clearly, has issues with OBS (I have Windows 11 spyware operating system... yes, it's serious spyware. Really, it should be investigated because Windows knows EVERYTHING I do no matter what the settings). But I digress... your mentioning the problems with the Behringer makes me think it may well be the unit. It's working just now. I expect the Mackie to show up this week from B&H in New York whom I highly, highly recommend.

Love the Mackie but it doesn’t really do multitrack recording. It only records a 2 track stereo signal. I have a drum machine with 11 channels and if I use the mixer to record it will only record it to channels 1 and 2. Changed my recording workflow with pro and cons. Saying it is multitrack is a little misleading.

Thank you for this. I have a question (and would love a full video on this topic!): What is the best way to set up a looper pedal into the mixer for a live performance? I just got the pro fx 6v3, but realize it is a bit undersized, so will be upgrading to the 10v3. I use the looper for both vocals and instrument lines, so I need it available for all of those. I also get bleeding from the mic channel when looping another instrument, so I think the line mute buttons on the 10v3 will be very helpful for this. Would you run the looper through the effects sends/returns for this situation, or is there a better way? I also want the looper running through the board so I can adjust final EQ, as well as access the volume button for fading out the main out on looper (without reaching down to the floor to access tiny volumer sliders!). Thank you for your suggestions, and let me know if you make a video on this... it's really missing in the other looper videos I've seen.

This is not an appropriate comparison! The Behringer model compared should be X or QX1204 USB . I'm not arguing with the experience of Behringer expressed her but I must have been very lucky. I have had an old model 1204 which has done a ton of gigs over about 15 years and an not so old ( around 10 years ) QX1222 which has admittedly done fewer gigs. Up until the output amplifier blew on the 1204 last week (NB 15 years!!) all channels and functions were working. NB the 1222 has insert points and amazing routing options and is still way cheaper than the Mackie. I just don't see the reliability issues talked about on forums or in reviews. I admit Behringer is a budget brand but it has served me well. I would hope for the money that Mackie was superior but after several hundred gigs I have no complaints about the quality of sound I get from the Behringer desks.

Until now every time I had a gig the place I performed had it's own pa system so I didn't need one. But now with the new situation I'm planning to start gigging at some private places like homes and I will have to bring some equipment. We are 3 members, singer, a guitarist singer and myself on the digital piano. The guitarist has his guitar amp, I have my keyboard amp. We will need to buy mics and a mixer. Do you thing that the Yamaha MG06 OR the Mackie pro 6 v3 will be a good choice or do you think we will have to step up to the 10 versions? Can you do comparison between the mg06 and the pro6v3? Thanks.
@kettnercreative
@kettnercreative 3 года назад
The Yamaha MG06 doesn't have a USB output, so I'd recommend Mackie for this size. As a general rule, I always buy one size bigger than I need. I think the 10 channel consoles are an amazing size, 4 XLR inputs is a safe amount for your three piece band, and I think you'll be happy with it. If you have the budget, the ProFX10v3 is an awesome choice for small bands because it's the smallest console that I know of that has mute buttons. Plus you'll love the blend knob if you ever get into multi-track recording.

I can’t find a mixing desk like my Soundcraft Compact 4,could you suggest a suitable replacement with strong gain pres? The Compact 4 has proper ins and outs ,labelled playback and recording which don’t affect the input channels so routing to my Emu 1212m was a breeze but I can’t find a modern mixing desk like it.

I like the “Mute” button , however for Yamaha , they only make the function for mg12xu and way too expensive for me and I do not require so many channels. Since I already own mg10xu , I will have to bear with it to redial levels each time . So far the sound quality of microphones, line level inputs as well as usb connected devices sounds really good. And in general , I do not trust behringer mixers 😜

Can you make a video about the Tascam mixer
@kettnercreative
@kettnercreative 3 года назад
We're thinking about it. The Tascam leans more into the realm of digital consoles, so it's hard to do a fair comparison to these types of mixers. So far we've been focused on showing tutorials for equipment under $500. That being said, the Tascam the only 12 channel digital consoles on the market. In the next 12 months, I would expect Behringer, Yamaha, and Allen & Heath to put some competition in the market for 6-12 channel digital audio consoles to compete with the Tascam and the RODEcaster.

Both preamps sound similar (to me). It mostly comes down to the FX, compression and some of the other features when you compare them. I have some videos coming out this week where we test some new behringer mixers, and the soundcraft notepad as well.

For the MG16XU, when using phones input, how can I manually control the volume for each channel? Adjusting the volume for each channel doesn't seem to work. Is there a different method? I would like to listen through my headphones and be able to adjust the volume for each channel. Thanks.

You would need to connect a headphone amp to one of the aux outputs and connect your headphones to the headphone amp. Then you could create a custom mix for your headphones.

Any thoughts on the Yamaha MG10XUF? It has faders on all channels and also has on/off buttons for each channel. Seems like a great option.
@CrsAVC
@CrsAVC 3 года назад
I've been reading some user manuals from the xuf, the profx and others. I've found that the xuf not only has faders but pfl switches to monitor each channel separately and -26db pad switches. The Mackie's have insert plugs for each channel, a blend knob for latency free monitoring and 2 hi-z switches to connect passive instruments directly to the mixer. I'm not sure if those are all the relevant differences, and also if with Yamaha's game of the line/usb and 2mon/2st switches is possible to get latency free monitoring also. The Zedi 10 from Allen & Heath got my attention also but only for the high quality reputation it has, because Yamaha's and Mackie's have some more features...

The Behringer Xenyx 1204 USB FX is a better comparison in features. I am a Behringer fan but even I wouldn't buy a unit with less features than the others compared. Sh!t Show out of the gate. Like comparing 2 race cars to a sports car and faulting the sports car and it's builder for not competing with the others.

Mackie sucks. I bought the Profx22v3 mixer from Guitar Center and had it sent to my house. First unit had a broken Master volume slider. So, GC sent me a second unit, but it had a blown out VU meter. So, I took my second unit back to GC and they sent me a third mixer. Unfortunately, it also had a blown out Right channel vu meter. Mackie sucks, they sell broken units...don't buy Mackie...
