What an amazing little tool! Never though I'd buy yet another brand of rechargeable power tool, but there's an important reason I chose this ocer some of the other options discussed in the video. The Ryobi FVD50K checks all the boxes on my list of simple and affordable tools that you absolutely MUST own. For $25 (as of January 2023, anyway), this little thing is a absolute winner!
Not sponsored, my opinions are entirely my own. Thanks for watching!

Haha thanks! I've been using it constantly since I bought it. Not a "perfect" tool (if such a thing exists), but an absolutely stellar little piece of kit for $25. Hope you enjoy it!

I was planning on buying the M12 hex screwdriver from Milwaukee but seeing this review made me completely go for the Ryobi. I just want to use it for removal and tightening things like a guitar or electronics. Seems perfect, thanks for such a great review!

Thanks for the review. FYI, the new Ryobi USB Lithium 3ah batteries are 2-way, so they can be used as a battery bank to charge your phone. Little pricey, but cool feature. Also, there's a new Ryobi USB Lithium soldering iron coming out next month, supposedly.
@AllThingsMech
@AllThingsMech Год назад
Very cool! I'll keep an eye out for that soldering iron, I have a good soldering station in my office but a mobile one for quick fixes in cars and whatnot would be really nice. Thanks for the heads up!

I was shopping for a powered screwdriver, and i like the fact the ryobi and dewalt are batteries removable. I went I head and got the dewalt just because of the torque capability. I am already feeling the pain on my back when carrying a full belt + a full size drill, I will be using it for troubleshooting switches, receptacles, etc. I still rely heavily of my full drill when I am assembling, anchoring.

I have been upgrading 3.6V or 4.8v electric screwdrivers (right from Skil to Mastercraft) using 18650 battery and TP4056 BMS. It is the Amps of the battery which increase the torque. Also putting the DPDT switch at the back saves space inside the battery compartment.

Also if you want to charge the batteries a faster, Ryobi does make a 3 port charge for these USB lithium batteries, looks like the going price is $30-40 (also grabbed a deal on 6 of those batteries for $40). Bought 2 of these one for home and for work (low voltage field tech, works wonders for taking outlet plates off, or working in a data rack).

Another quick tip for charging the battery. Once plugged into a USB C charger the battery should flash green around the charging port, once fully charged the light should turn solid green, No light = Error. Great intro video!
@AllThingsMech
@AllThingsMech Год назад
Thank you! I actually spoke about the charging process briefly toward the end of the video, but something else I noticed recently is that the batteries seem to flash pretty quickly when you first start charging them, and then the flashing slows as the battery gets closer to full. Solid green when done. Have you noticed that too, or am I nuts? lol

The Dewalt gyroscopic feature is if you turn your hand to the right it tightens the screw. If you turn it left it unscrews. It’s variable speed. It has no button for forward/ reverse. You push the trigger and turn left or right. It works great. I use it for RC cars. I have the dewalt that doesn’t twist into the pistol grip. I wish I would of bought that model though. Now for Ryobi I have all the 4v flashlights and lights. The 3ah battery will charge your phone will the 2ah won’t. I like the 4v set up .

These types of low power screw drivers are the best for replacing locksets for doors and automotive interior trims. It's a must have for me. But not for heavy duty high torque use. Often high torque can damage the soft brass and tiny screw heads.

I have the similar one from Ryobi in Canada. Its similar like that one. its the hp74l. with a right angle and corner drive. I bought it for just assembly and disassebly for this even for building computers. you don't really that high torque stuff.

Looking for an electric screw driver for working around drums... ie., removing and re-fastening lugs, on the tension rods for rapid removal of rims and drum heads etc.... Enough torque for these types of jobs with out over cranking as I have better drills and screw guns for that. I looked at everything you had on here and then some but keep coming back to this unit.... LOFL.... Guess it was destiny for me to see this video.. your TBL band.. instruments in the background... working on firearms and instruments...we suffer some of the same vices😉... Thanks for sharing...

Thanks Beanie, definitely some similar interests between us it seems! I try to keep my vast collection of ARs and other toys off the channel since youtube's advertising revenue was cut in half recently and its extremely easy to get demonitized (or yanked offline entirely) these days because "guns are scary". 🙄 You're right though, this little guy is fantastic for swapping drum heads and adjusting tension rods with a 1/4" hex drive key. I still use my Makita impact for removing tension rods entirely since it's so much faster, but for replacing them and tuning, the Ryobi is perfect. Wish I would have picked one up last year before I started going through my Ludwigs! Still went plenty fast using my impact, but deburring the lug holes and tuning the new heads would have been much better with the ryobi! Thanks for watching man, much appreciated!

As an electronics technician, I found that Milwaukee is the best driver you can buy for my application at least. I've tried most brands from Dewalt, Makita, Metabo, Ryobi, a few of the really cheap Chinese models, and, of course, the Milwaukee. If you have the money, Milwaukee, then Makita, and lastly, Metabo is the best, in my opinion.
@AllThingsMech
@AllThingsMech 5 месяцев назад
Wholeheartedly agree for a professional grade tool. Everything else I own is Milwaukee and Makita. The Ryobi does great as a cheap tool for around the house stuff, but I wouldn't put it out there in a hard-use environment, that's for sure.

Helpful video.. Thank you! I just paid $39.95 here in California. Inflation is out of control..After 2 more years (of you know who in charge) it will probably be $159.95 by 2024. I will say that the amount of torque is relatively weak compared to my main dewalt drill..it’s fine for small spaces and relatively small screws.
@AllThingsMech
@AllThingsMech Год назад
Yep, looks like the price jumped up to $40 everywhere now, even here. One would hope that the price doesn't increase further, but with the way things are headed with our current administration (🤪🙄), I have the same concerns that you do. I agree that this little guy definitely isn't a powerhouse, but if I need more grunt I can always reach for the Makita driver. For its intended role though, I've been very pleased!

@@michaelfinch510 Yawn…any idea know how inflation works? They printed more than 40% of all dollars that exist in the last 3yrs. Put China aside for a minute because it’s completely orthogonal….When there’s more of something does it make it more valuable or less valuable? Hmmm..think…and how does that impact the prices of goods and services? Does it make the price go up or down?

lets' be honest, this is an abysmal upgrade. 1 speed of 200 rpm, the old 4v be it the twist handle or the one with the tri LED had a 2 speed gearbox 200 rpm in speed 1 and 600 rpm in speed 2. this while being a slimer twist handle which is great for those who have smaller hands like myself , one speed of 200 rpm is laughable. can't believe they call this an "upgrade". they should have put a proper collet on it like dewalts 12v extreme. it is nice they put a magnet in the bit holder, that was the issue of the old one where the bit holder would wear out over time from the bits going in and out of, The bits would refuse to stay in place. For 40 bucks is not worth the asking price in the slightest. I know this is meant for light duty work but still they could have done better if they were gonna discontinue the old one that only needed a bit holder revision.
@AllThingsMech
@AllThingsMech 11 месяцев назад
Definitely a fair assessment. I've been using mine for several months now, mostly for guitar work or smaller things that don't require very much torque and actually make that slower RPM useful (adjusting bridge saddles, changing pickup height, removing/installing pickguards, etc). It's definitely not a perfect tool, but as with any tool, your intended use plays a big part in whether or not it will fit your needs. I have no experience with the older ones so I can't comment as to whether or not this is necessarily an upgrade, I just know that for my needs (which, admittedly, are very light duty) it's been great. If I need more speed or power, it's usually for something that's big enough to warrant breaking out one of my bigger impact drivers. I do appreciate and welcome your opinion though. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@AllThingsMech
@AllThingsMech 9 месяцев назад
No sir, single speed gearbox and basically on/off style trigger. Its rotational speed is slow enough that I've learned to just tap the trigger and let it glide if I'm getting close to where something needs to be. Variable speed would be a great upgrade...but then the cost would go way up I'm sure.

it suffers from the same problem that all the Ryobi cordless screwdrivers suffer from....the chuck. It isn't locking nor is it even magnetic. The bits constantly fall out. If I only used one bit I could just glue it in but that isn't happening. Extensions with a locking chuck are longer than I would like.
@AllThingsMech
@AllThingsMech 8 месяцев назад
I've put a lot of time on mine and have yet to see a bit to come out of the chuck when I don't want it to, even shaking the thing as hard as I can. Maybe there are some manufacturing tolerances that are different from one tool to the next, but I don't view the chuck as an issue considering the price point. I'm planning on doing a one year follow-up video in January, so I'll keep an eye on mine and if it becomes a problem I'll certainly speak up then.

Everyone know Ryobi is one of the cheapest quality brand you can buy, if you being using tools for a longe time you should know this already and if you don't it parent company TTI even says it the most entre level tools you can get, as for Harbor Freight stuff everything from Bauer, Hercules and Earthquake is better than Ryobi. Recently Ryobi tools are actually not bad because it just downgrade Milwaukee tools. Gyroscope is to use left and right rotation and how much you twist for it to turn, I own this Ryobi 4v and DeWalt 8v, and Milwaukee M4 screwdriver, The M4 is the worst electric screwdriver when looking at the price good thing I paid $40 bucks for mine because ain't no way this thing should cost $169 current price, a fanttik electric screwdriver $30 on Amazon is better than all of this brand which is sad. I would actually buy Ryobi over Milwaukee M4 even if both is $30 each that how bad the M4 screwdriver is
