USB PD Trigger Board - ZY12PDN is a low-cost board. I have purchased this board from amazon.in but it is available on various popular websites like Aliexpress, Alibaba, local amazon sites, etc. Please visit my website for more information: pallavaggarwal.in/
This board uses a dedicated USB PD chip for voltage, current negotiation, and a small 20 pin STM32 MCU for easy configuration using a single button.
USB Type C has various advantages

Hi, this was very useful to program the trigger board. It all works great! Thank you so much. One question I have: Is there a way to remove the settings as the device came out of the box (factory reset)? - I mean, I would like to connect the device and then step up again without programming it.

Good explanation. I have the same PD trigger and want power a small 12V 3A bilge pump using a 65W PD power bank. I have locked the trigger to 12V (green LED), but as soon as I connect the pump, the light goes out and the power bank shows it is no longer charging and the pump does not turn on. Any ideas why it is shorting out?

I'm not sure, but... PD have a limit of 5 amp at any voltage, being 100w the maximum rating at 20v, the pump could have a large current peak, turning off the power bank because of the over current.

And connecting DC motor directly without any flyback diode protection may damage your module or even your power bank. It has large inductive spikes as soon the power is disconnected.

@@VictorC173 Thanks! I actually ended up adding a PWM motor speed controller to my circuit last night and set it to 0% prior to turning on the circuit. This has allowed me to slowly crank up the power and prevent the inrush current of the DC motor from shutting down the power bank.

I'd like to know if the trigger board can be used in a different manner. I have a 12v-to-5v step-down converter for my car and I'd like to connnect Apple's Magsafe puck to it to charge my iPhone. However, the Apple puck will not allow it as it requires the power source to be PD3.0 compliant. Can a trigger be used here to fool Apple's puck and allow the phone to charge?

After the programming the board to desired voltage, could you please tell if you press the button again what happens? Should not locked, right?

I'm testing this little Board with a short strip LED, about 15w - 12v ,I've noticed that the board is Really Hot, there is a similar board with better thermal performance? ( with similar size) or it's ok to have such temperatures on the board?

What do you mean by really hot, can you measure temperature? Not just temperature, measure voltage drop also, that will tell you why there is a heat.

Can I use this hack to power my laptop. My laptop comes with 90watt 19v 4.74A barrel charger. My idea is to find a exact Barrel charger cable and connect to output of pd trigger. I have pd charger. Will it works. In pd trigger no one is talking about amps. Mi launched 50w power bank. I will be using this that power bank in need. What do you say

Thanks, great question. I think that is possible , only two problems 1. USB PD charger with 20V 5A capability will be very costly. 2. You will need 19V output so after USB PD output you will need to drop 1V. Be careful with your laptop...Don't blame me if you spoil your laptop ;)

Thanks for sharing the link. Seems it is out of stock. I found one on Alibaba for Rs 1200/- however, they are not shipping anything to India due to Covid restrictions. Hence, I bought a 100 Watts PD Car Charger from Banggood and installed it in my powerbank project which just got over an hour ago 😂

You can NOT connect this to the battery directly. You need to connect this to a charger which will connect to the battery. 1st understand the subject well before doing anything else you may get hurt. The battery is dangerous if misused even if by mistake. Good Luck!

@@coz0015this is NOT a li-ion charging board! It is a PD/QC controller trigger board. Never ever charge a battery ditectly with this even if the battery is equipped with BMS because BMS only limit the min/max voltage and not the current!
