USB vs. XLR mics - Which Is Better??

In this video, I took a solid USB mic (the HyperX Quadcast), and put it up against the mic I've used for the past 3 years (the Shure SM7B) to see if it sounds comparable to it. Hope you guys enjoy the video! :D

some constructive feedback from me here: i found the comparison of the mic sounds quite difficult because the background music played on top of it. I personally would advise you on playing just the mic audio so that the sound can be judged more objectively. Apart from that GREAT VIDEO! Good luck on your journey and with your future endevours.

Is it weird that I think the Quadcast sounds better? Or is it a function of my computer audio? Either way - love the content, Planet! Keep it up!!

It’s possible. The quadcast was very highs-heavy when I played it back in my editing software, so maybe that was what you were hearing? Also condenser mics tend to sound clearer overall because they aren’t trying to actively cancel out background noise, while the SM7B is because it’s a dynamic mic

Can depend on your voice as well. Some mics are better at portraying certain voices deeper or higher

hello mr sir mr sir planet. please stop removing the mids in your shure sm7b, it's already a muddy mic, you don't need to make mit muddier

For people's voices who are mid-heavy already, I completely agree. However, for me since my voice is on the lower-end, it benefits me and my voice to cut a lot of the mids.
