USC Reject to Accepted Transfer Student: My Story and Advice 

J. L. I know this is a late comment but I’m trying to get into the screenwriting program there! Did you get in or go somewhere else?

Taking your prerequisites at a safety school is such a smart decision. I’m honestly glad I was rejected and had the opportunity to see what I actually wanted out of my major.

Not to sound like a stalker but which college are you going to. I’m doing the same. (Attending my safety school for one year then transferring to USC for my sophomore year), but I need to know what courses I need to take in order to get to the requirement of 30 semester credits.

How did it go

USC has a website where you find your admission counselor based on your location

itslins about 5-7 times over a period of a couple months. A lot of people transfer from everywhere but most community college transfers come from schools in California. Every application and situation is unique.

Nothing out of the ordinary I believe in one of my essays I talked about my community service with candlelighters. If you have over 30 credits you don’t have to send any standardized test scores but if you have less than 30 you can still decide which scores to send.

Shane Mendoza You don’t goto elite schools like usc, Berkeley, ucla just for the education. It’s the connections too. You can be stupid with terrible grades but if you graduated from an Ivy League then you will have doors open to you, especially in Wall Street, that a state school wouldn’t give. Usc has a very strong presence in LA. There’s even a saying at usc where Trojans will always hire Trojans. My cousin got into a top law firm in la because of usc. There were only three spots and two of them went to a usc student. The third spot was a ucla student. Obviously if usc turns out expensive then don’t go. Ucla would be a better option.

@@Justin-ev8nn I'm currently a student at UCSD lol. I have all job opportunities/internship opportunities and graduate placement the same as USC, UCLA, Berkeley, UCSB, etc. More matters about how you do in college my guy. If you get a 3.0 gpa, then you aren't going to amount to much.

Shane Mendoza Tell that to the kids who are getting into Wall Street because of their school and parents. UCSD is a great school especially for stem . People who goto usc and do exceptionally well post college are those who want to pursue business/film. Marshall is one of the best business schools and that’s because of our connections to many wealthy people and companies located here in LA. Gpa is important but even that value diminishes overtime. What’s important is experience and connections and elite schools like usc, la, Berkeley have that for their students. I’ve seen people with low gpa land good jobs at Fortune 500 companies simply because their frat bros dad hooked them up. My point is that I don’t agree with what you said about “same education.” UCSD is better than usc at stem but if you’re going into business then usc/Berkeley is a no-brainer.

Just grind away wherever you enrol. I transfered in after a year.
