No one seems to know or admit the young man was probably drunk. Please don't blame a home owner for shooting a person trying to break into their home at night. Even if the person is trying to get in due to a mistake. The home owner doesn't know the intentions of the intruder. In that situation the home owner has to make a difficult call.
It's disgusting that crime is so out of control in this country which puts people on high alert and they act first and ask questions later. May God comfort this young man's family. 😢
@@heavynoose7761 Now we call up the image of raping the invented daughter, you guys are just nuts. You just want an excuse to shoot and kill somebody. And the person with the gun will probably get away with it. The sickness in our Nation with guns, fear, hate, and, violence is bigger then crime.
@@warrior-xd2xn yes, call the police while someone is in your home and you have no idea thier intentions. The police will show up in time to identify your families bodies.
I lived in a neighborhood of look-a-like duplexes. One early morning after a night out my friend mistakenly pulled up in front of the house next door. I didn't even notice I was at the wrong house until my key wouldn't open the front door. Then I looked around and saw the house number. I guess it was a good thing it was 1990 and not 2023.
Then there's the Dallas cop that (after a few drinks) went to the second floor instead of the third and shot the rightful occupant. Nothing good comes from "a few drinks" ever!
Except there were no other houses by which the deceased could have been confused by the one he attempted to enter, even in the dark and even drunk, unless he was obliterated.
Did you try to break the door down...... big difference. Dude put his own life at risk. Who goes from being locked out the house to immediately kicking the door in?
@@writerartist6306: Oh, he came up on your house at 2 AM, tried to break-in (not simply walk-in), and, when that did not work, undertook other efforts to gain entry that could not be considered as merely "accidentally walked into" your home. Not the same set of facts.
Not sure why the homeowner would shoot through the door at a college kid. But on the bright side the human population dropped a little with this shooting :)
The homeowners told police that they were awakened by a loud knocking on their door, and they saw a young man kicking the door. They asked him to “stop,” to “go away.” But he didn’t listen. Donofrio reportedly broke a glass window pane on the door and reached in to attempt to unlock it from the inside. That’s when one of the residents got a gun and shot a single bullet through the broken window and hit him, according to police.
A tragic situation. If he actually entered the home, you cannot expect the homeowner to wait and try to figure out exactly what's going on before defending the life and safety of him or herself and his or her family. Since he was found on the front porch, however, it's possible he never entered the home. If it turns out he didn't actually enter the home, I would say the homeowner may have acted prematurely and may possibly have some degree of criminal liability.
If you are not drunk you cannot enter a wrong house or tried to enter, stop this B, good example, don't get drunk!!!!! People need to protect their homes, how is the homeowner should know if someone is trying to get into their house to kill them, you don't want anyone to protect their home? only Biden allowed to spend my tax dollar to have a big gate around his house?????? Crime is out of control and you don't want us to protect our homes, stop drinking, problem solved!!
It was a very small porch and, in any event, if he was shot as he was breaking in as the 911 call reports, he would have likely fallen backwards into the porch.
Details withheld. Did the young man die for just wiggling the door knob? Kicking the door in? Breaking a window? If attempt of forced entry, defense necessary. Shot thru the door? I found apost, guy said he just down the street from same campus, kids at wrong door a lot, his house, some wander in & leave as soon as realize at wrong house. He said he never felt the need to shoot anyone.
What is wrong with so many of these young people entering tge wrong home? I live in Texas. No matter how drunk, drugged etc I ever was, I NEVER entered the wrong house. Ever. And, if someone walked into my house, I am going to pew pew first and ask questions later. I am not giving you the cha ce to hurt me. Plus, all my doors stat locked all the times.
Wasn't there a female cop who entered the wrong apartment, and shot the legal tenant because she thought he was in her apartment? He died. She was convicted and sentenced to prison; she was released after serving a short stint.
@@oahuhawaii2141 yes but that was a differnt situation. I believe what she did in that situation was intentional. She had been having issues with noise from his apt.
Not if that Black student KICKED in the door to an occupied home in which the occupants did not know home. Btw, based on your comment, I have no doubt that YOUR tone would be different if the student was Black.
This was first reported as a guy shot for mistakenly trying to enter the wrong home, but if he's dead how did they determine it was a mistake? For all we know he could have been trying to rob the place. I feel for the man who felt like he needed to defend his home in the face of great security challenges we are all facing, in better days this wouldn't have come out with the same ending.

I'm am sad that this young mad died. But, I notice a sharp difference in the response to his walking up to the wrong house, where the victim s were Black children, teens the comment section is littered with racist statements how they had it coming and support for the gunman. The dichotomy is shocking and saddening.
@@bigk4026 You comment isn't clear, why don't you spell it out. Little kids selling candy get gun waved at them, kids on bicycles get cornered by gunman because they passed his car. So, don't be glib with your FoxNews appraisal.
Ppl do go into the wrong houses, drunk or not, don’t mean harm, found asleep on couch or bed. Most aren’t killed. So was he kicking the door in? Breaking a window? Or was he shot thru the door for wiggling the doorknob. April this yr a young man picking up his brother got the address mixed up. Shot & killed. Kaylin Gillis was shot, killed. Rural NY, no cell svc, searching for friends house, pulled into a driveway to turn around- young ppl, 3 others in the car. Driver had to drive to get cell svc. They didn’t get out of the car at all, simply searching for a house & needed to turn around. I had a man at my door ran out of gas. Rural. I gave him a Gal of my mower gas & he went on. No harm. I’ve been armed 53 yrs, since 19yo, live alone, I know my neighbors, no cameras, my dog is my alarm, rural & I don’t live in fear. Crime has increased. BUT ppl have become so isolated in their homes, socially distant, I think most have forgotten abt human interaction, live on computers. If the young man was shot thru the door, no attempt of forced entry-it was wrong. They’re not releasing details. Body found on the porch. Did the shooter attempt to talk to the guy? Talk thru the door? What a horrible tragedy. Innocent man, life ended. Castle/stand your ground- shouldn’t cover killing innocent ppl. This sickens me. Georgia-& we’re well armed.

Not when someone is actively trying to break down your door. It's not our fault that people get drunk and violent. Maybe his first actions after realizing the door was locked shouldn't have been to break the door down.

They could at least yell out a warning before shooting through the door or fire a warning shot through the top height or very low bottom of the door… People are so scared of their own thoughts!
I'm sure they did yell. The guy kicked in the door. It doesn't take much common sense to realize he was most likely intoxicated. If some drunk is kicking in your door I wouldn't waste time asking questions either.

My friend did the same thing while in collage in Gainesville FL KICKED in the front door of apt went in & laid on the guys couch He was drunk & was arrested this poor kid was killed RIP.
... don't have to hope, with gun in hand you can yell out "What do you want? ... or with gun in hand ... go out back or side door of house ... if you are brave enough and value human life enough.
Seems like an over reaction to me. Can't people talk to each other? Yell out: who are you, what are you doing here? The kid would've explained himself. This was a harmless college kid who made a mistake. (But first call 911 of course.)

Two people in house. One with gun could have told other to call 911 and go towards back door ... and immediately stand to side of door ... and yell out "Who are you?" ... or What are you doing? ... unless the gun owner was drunk. Was he?
