Bo Toichi - Don't be fooled by the uniforms and the so-called swag. They are not technically sound. The marching is atrocious, with their inanity to do a basic 8-5. Some people hit the 8 on the right foot, which is correct, others hit it with the left foot, which is incorrect, while still others miss it altogether. They are very nonchalant in their marching and maneuvering, and their mediocre playing is just that. See them in person as I have and all their flaws are very noticeable. But you can't tell them they're not the best thing since sliced bread.
MrOu83 marching isn’t their specialty. They aren’t a military styled band like A and M and Ohio. But their sound is in fact amazing. You should see them in person. And the swag comes from their 2 Platinum albums. Something that no other school has😉
No mikes, marching band is pretty much play loud. I was in a marching band that was about 70 people, but we sounded like 100 because we played loud and we played well. Its all about blend and balance... about the only time I've seen groups use a mike is for the soloists in a show, depending on the group and the instrument. Also for effects, drum corps do this to get things out of the horns that you wouldn't be able to without being miked. I suggest looking up marching band videos taken at completions, not at football games. It gives you a better sense of just how loud a band can be, when the crowd isn't talking over the performance.
