Was on This boat on 09/11/01 I reported for duty there end of 08/11/01. My dad was a LT in L-123 FDNY working on 9/11. Spent 18 months on this boat. She calls to me. I miss her. My father survived 9/11. I’m currently a Captain in FDNY commanding officer of a truck company down town. God speed
@ 14:41.. There are a couple of these (needle guns) and at least 3 deck growlers on the bottom in Sturgeon Bay WI. Small price to pay after the deck dept (6 of us including the BMC) took the boat down to bare metal from stack to stern, summer of 1980. Nice job on the video. If you can spell, maybe a job as a PA is in your future LOL.
I remember sleeping on board the old Spencer, mostly sunk at the pier in Curtis Bay Maryland when the cutter I was on WHEC 718 Chase was in dry dock back in 1981.
Must be when you were stationed in Boston with Hamilton and in Glenn Bernie for repairs. At that same time, I was on the Hamilton as a second-class Sonar Technician [ST2]. I recall a classmate assigned to Chase. Can't recall his name.
Does anyone know if the US Navy base on PR is closed? I Googled Earthed it and it looks like a housing development. The daughter of a friend is going marry a guy who is a Crew Chief on a helicopter in FL. I was Navy, but I agree that the Coast Guard doesn't get the credit it deserves.
This isn't the CGC Spencer that I know...The Spencer I was on was WHEC 36, built and commissioned in 1939. Went to Cuba for Underway training, then Vietnam. Sailed thru the Panama Canal. CGC Spencer, was home ported out of Governors Island, NY
Phil King I was on the Spencer W 36 in 1965. With Captain Tibbits, Sonarman 2nd class. Did a Guantanamo Bay, ocean Station Charlie and ocean station Bravo
Sure, fishing is a big past time while you're at sea. Many a lunch menu has been supplemented with fish caught that morning. Spanish mackerel was my favorite, both to catch and eat.
