*PREPPER PRO TIP: In the long run, it will be easier, quicker, and safer just to learn how to proficiently "rake" the lock with the longest section of a long steel paperclip and use a smaller cut section as a wrench to get through most (90%+) of residential property and commercial office door knob locks in less than 60 seconds (obviously pick a good time when no one is around). Yes it's a skill that takes training, but then all you ever need is to always keep an innocent looking, high-quality paperclip on you at all times.* *OR if you have a sacrificial credit card you don't mind tearing up, you can just slip it in between the spring latch and the strike plate. When you know how to tweak the plastic corner it might take you 30 seconds.* *Either of these will be better than running the risk of getting caught trying to lift someone's key (which is harder that it sounds because it requires even higher level skills ---pickpocketing & stealth), or going through all that work just to realize your little soap cutout wasn't accurate enough and there you are attempting to sneak through a door with a key that doesn't work.*
Yes I had hoped to see some weird shit I’m sure it works but a lot of people have made some pretty solid points in the comments. You’d have to know the person pretty well to be able to get close enough to take their key and make a imprint of it without them knowing you took the key in the first place, and that probably makes you extra shitty if you’re looking to rob them. This might be useful if you know how to break into a car maybe I can’t see how else you would obtain said key
I was a super intendant for a bit so I’ve had to deal with break ins I’ve watched guys get into the building with ease they didn’t damage the lock of use a key but chances are if you’re doing a B&E you aren’t coming back to hit the same place multiple times
@@dylanfletcher2138 yeah the person who commented on here saying you just need a to take a picture of the key and put in a 3D modeler program and then you can print it out is spot on, which is way scarier, you need very little true access maybe 5seconds. Also a 12Gauge shotgun can unlock Most doors too though.
@@TonyMontanaOG Didnt say they were not good soaps ......at what time did I say they were not ? I didnt . Fact is , they DO use Irish Spring as deer repellant , because deer DONT like the smell ......has absolutely nothing to do with the soap . But it does keep them away from crops
Another good trick if time is short. Take a picture of the key with a coin next to it. Then placing the coin on your screen of phone, zoom in and out until the coin size is the same as the picture. Using clear tap, draw around the key, then place clear tape on tin and cut as before. I saw this on a defcon hackers video a few years back and it works. Great videos!!
It’s not lock picking…it’s key copying. Lock picking means you walk up with a handful of tools and defeat the lock. It’s hard to walk around with a printer/scanner in their pocket so you can take your sweet ass time making a key. If you had access to the key in the first place, go to Lowe’s and get a key cut.
That is a BIG FAT GO....PRECEDED BY A NO....If that is the route you want to take, why not recon the lock and find out the brand and carry a few BLANK KEYS on you? That is all good and well but for THIS SCENARIO we don''t live next door to a home improvement warehouse....
There’s a simpler way to achieve similar results. You can use a dry erase marker to mark a key and then use a piece of scotch tape to “lift” the print off and transfer it to a plastic soda bottle. Then just cut it out and use the same way. This eliminates the need for the soap and the printer so it can be a little more discreet depending on the situation.
Sounds like an abusive wife. Only an abusive person would lock up snacks like that!! Only someone who is pure evil could ever do such a thing!! A beast so hideous it garners pleasure from such twisted torment. (P.S. Anyone got a husband they don't need who behaves this way so I can practice my new stealth snack scouring skills on them?? A girl's gotta snack!! Lol)
Intelligence services generally prefer impressioning keys over picking locks. Picking locks can leave behind marks and there is a concern about being unable to lock the door again. Lishi lockpicks provide the pin number and depth, making it easier to create keys later on.
@@3nertia How much does a copy machine cost? A lock pick set doesn't require you to get access to the right key and what if the key you need is on a ring full of similar keys, do you make all of them? Does this fake key leave marks or possible metal scraps when used?
My comment got deleted I said you could just but the soap bar in a sock and use it on the person who has the key 😂 apparently RU-vid doesn't like dark humor
I too miss the days when you could just comment any unhinged or edgy joke/remark and not have RU-vid play parent. These days, I can barely swear in my comments without them getting hidden or outright nuked.
Modeling clay or silly putty inside that altoids tin is generally going to be far less suspicious-looking (and yield a more detailed/higher fidelity impression). You can then close the tin to protect the impression until you can transpose it/measure the pin lengths/etc. I also recommend cutting the key by buying a matching blank and filing it to the pin lengths. It'll be much more durable, you can bring it to any hardware store afterwards and get them to make as many copies as desired without raising any suspicion, and you won't need a tension wrench. It will also look far less suspicious if found on you, which grants you social access/credibility as well.
@@Dominasty Being on CCTV only matters *after you're caught*. Nobody's going to be reviewing CCTV hours looking for someone who *might* be copying a key they shouldn't have. Getting a key copied from a blank you file won't raise suspicion.
@@brentsaner what happens after breaking and entering after the investigation starts? Elude the forensic investigators and police? But I'm not willing to take those risks. Best to keep your face off of CCTVs when in the act of committing a felony.
@@Dominasty Read again. They need to positively identify you as a suspect *and* correlate cut lengths of the key *and* know which hardware store you went to and have a general idea of when. Assuming this hardware store has CCTV coverage of the keycutter (mom and pop's tend to not). You aren't telling me how they're doing the very first step, identifying you as a suspect. You're more likely to be on CCTV for the entry *itself*, and hiding your face will raise caution of those around you sky-high.
@@brentsaner You're extremely naive. They use the shotgun method, casting a wide net, and matching CCTV to timing and suspects. Then the interviews and narrowing starts. Go ahead, though, keep believing it's a great idea to put yourself on CCTV, in a hardware store, to make copies of keys you're trying to use to commit felonies. I mean, come one, man...this is this is the stuff detectives laugh about when stupid criminals do stupid things. Smart enough to know to make copies of keys but dumb enough to put yourself on camera and/or get receipts on digital transactions (credit/debit/mobile pay). Talk about non-repudiation and destroying any case you possibly thought you could have. I'm only responding to such terrible ideas like yours in the hopes of stopping someone from committing crimes and ending up in prison. I mean...how stupid can a person be to not understand how simple this is. Then again, this is why I don't commit crimes.
This will be handy for those all-too-common situations where I need a key and have access to a bar of soap, Altoids, and a copy machine, but not a Menards. Very helpful.

Using an impression to make a copy isn't lock picking. Not to mention, if you only have a key for a limited time and you're going to need to cut or shape your final product anyway, just trace the key, get the bitting heights, or mark a blank key, the file the the blank to match the information you got from the original
Awesome video, love how you addressed material during improvisation! I suppose too, if you had time to gain access and weren't in a super huge hurry, you could swing by a hardware store and grab a key blank for the key in question, then you don't have to contend with whether or not your metal components will hold up for turning the key. File it down with a hand file, and you're there.
My keys stay in my jeans pocket with me all the time so good luck with getting a print of mine. Better send a very attractive female to get me naked and distracted first. LOL
A villain in Ace Attorney did something similar by pressing coins into soap, pouring water into the mold, freezing it into ice in the cold outdoors (game was set in Britain during winter), then using the ice coins to cheat an old age heater's coin reader with the identically sized ice coin to a real one, getting free heat. The ice coins would eventually melt and drain out of the reader through a hole, so they'd be gone by the time the guy that pulls the money from the machines comes.
As a property manager for quite a long time, ive had instances of tenants changing locks and moving out just to get you to break something getting in. Ive learned a lil trick. I use a small grinder to cut lengthwise down the type of key for the lock, removing the teeth completely from there a flat wire bent on the last 1/8th of an inch is used to tickle the tumbler pins into alignment while using the key as a tensioner. 2-3 strokes and the lock is open..
Picking seems way easier. You could also just take the paper cutout to one of the newer automated key making machines that uses optics to scan the original key to make a new one.
I don't get why he had a gun in the beginning of the video and then says he needs to return the keys without anyone noticing but doesn't condone breaking and entering?? 🤔
Why not sandwich the key between two halves of the soap, as a mold, then fill the void with some JB Weld? Would be an exact replica of the key in no time at all…
Or just imprint it completely in one bar then fill it... you could use solder, or something hard! Gorilla glue perhaps? Can always sand the face if it's too thick.
Why bother to pick when a dollar spatula from any dollar store or $2 set of orange hook picks from harbor freight applied to the latch has the same effect in usually less time?
Right. Ive done this with a pick set. A good quality main door lock is much harder to pick and the method in this video would be very difficult to make work.
Thanks for the survival tip! Now if I get locked in a room with only a bar of soap, a working printer with ink and plenty of paper, preferably a marker, an altoids tin, tape, various cutting equipment specifically for metal, and a paper clip, I’ll be able to escape :)

Looks like a lot of work. If you can’t use a charge card to get in I guess that’s the only way to go. Thanks for another great video. If I ever lose a key I will know how to get in my own property. Hopefully never have to do it on anybody else!😊
Okay this firm example of not judging a video by it's thumbnail because I thought this was like a survival video how to unlock a door with just soap lmao
My high school English teacher told us a story about why he never lets his students use his keys, and it was because his friend when HE was in high school did this exact same thing to reproduce a real metal master key to the entire building.
I had a friend who could look at a key for a couple minutes and say a blank key with small files make that key from memory. He’s dead now due to liquor and a woman but I though he had a talent.
Very true. I prefer the letter D in the breach obstacle acronyms AUTO-D we learned in SERE. Around/Away, Under, Throw, Over or DESTROY! The foot is always an option!!
Is it possible to take a high definition picture of a key and precisely size that picture to the exact dimensions of the key, and then make your jig from a scan of that? If so, you could cut that whole "steal key, soap imprint, return stolen key, photocopy soap for your jig" part of the process out....but I'm just spitballing here,, don't know if this is even feasible. If so, could be a backup/alternate way of creating the jig to cut your key
Quick! Find me soap, an altoids tin, fire up the scanner, and my micro snips! Can't imagine an emergency where this would be the call to action. But I'm sure I'll be surprised. Also, cameras have adjustable aspect ratios, keys are standardized, and phones connect to printers easily. But yeah, grab the soap it's an emergency haha.
Use a credit card from the purse to make the key. Easily to cut with only a good knife. Use lipstick from the womans purse, lipstick the key, paper (or business card in the purse) pressed on the the lipsticked key for the shape. Use your own sharpie to paint the key, press image before the paint dries.

step 1. get soap. step 2. locate owner of key. step 3. follow them somewhere private. step 4. use soap to knock out person. If this fails, shove in mouth. step 5. While confused or out cold, rummage for the key. step 6. use key on lock. step 7. reclaim soap. steop 8. repeat until satisfied.
Thank you very much. Hopefully i wont have to use this 😂. But sometimes we get locked out and this is a life skill. Always thankful for the valuable content sir.
Urban survival skill LOL! So, in essence then we need the key to a door we wish to unlock. This isn't about picking a lock with a bar of soap per say (just make an outline on the tin with a marker and forget the soap). It's about how criminals hock a set of keys or a key to make a knock off. Otherwise, we can just go to a CVS, Walgreens or a hardware store with the key you hiked and get a key made. Duh.
Great video. Just wanted to add that something very similar can be done from any image you can get a hold of(for example on social media). If the physical copy doesn't work, the imprint/picture also makes lockpicking easier/faster, especially if there are anti-pick features in the lock.
A plus for Ivory soap in your kit is ,ivory soap is one of the only soaps that float on water, that was one of its main original selling points way back when people still washed in streams and ponds. Also believe it or not it's awesome trot fishing line bait.Put chunks on fish hooks on the trotline and the water wears it down while carrying the scent and elements downstream, saturating a large area. Its a southern thing.
Pretty sure you'll find that plastic (like a soda bottle) works better for a temporary key than sheet metal, easier to cut down and far less likely to contaminate the work area with blood from those metal shavings. Although a single paperclip alone will easily defeat most Kwikset residential type door locks as shown in the video in less than a minute or two (as well as most Master branded padlocks).
after cleaning the excess soap we also want to remove any traces of the soap scent. using a knife blade to remove the soap in the grooves may leave a scratch mark on the key which may be noticed
lol me and a friend used a method similar to break into his parents room to steal there weed and cigarettes.... we printed a picture of a lock pick, cut it out and glued it to a piece of sheet metal and grinded away until we got the shape. worked great until it didnt and it broke off in the key hole after using it a few times, then we went back to the garage and made an extractor and was able to get it out
What if you fill the soap inprint with epoxy resin glue to make the entire key? Then you could use a small jewlers file to finely finish up or trace a metal key using the epoxy one instead? Epoxy is VERY strong and you could turn the lock with it alone maybe. I have seen people make imprints of BOTH sides of a key. I would imagine that the slots on both side are made differently or there is some other difference between both sides on purpose maybe? 🤔 Don't know if this would work. Just a thought.....
I like using an oversized bar of soap instead to make a fake pistol with which to commit justifiable offenses that yield genuine weapons while bypassing burglary. Remember to retain the soap for post-crime cleanup.
i feel like you could probably just 1. do the soap thing 2. color the edges with a marker 3. press onto paper 4. use clear double sided tape on top of the print 5. stick chopped up paper clips to mimic the outline & make struts/supports 6. resin/superglue the whole thing
Keep your keys dirty, if you notice one is clean you know someone who has watched this video has been messing with your gear 😅 Its actually easier to 3d print a case for some modelling clay to make the impression. You can even try woods metal to pour into the impression. I know what you are going to say "what if you get stopped"
Thanks. It's so easy to break in... That's both amazing and worrying... Where I live, if they don't break in (actually damaging the door or the lock), the insurance won't pay anything : they'll only assume you forgot to lock the door... I guess we all need to avoid locks having keys so easy to copy.
