Another little feature: quick cargo cover retraction. When the cover is pulled across and in place, give the leading edge (aka the "flappy part") a little slap downwards - the cover will partially retract. Super handy when you have items to load.
At first I laughed at this. Then, the other day, I was in need of this and did it because I remembered this comment. It worked and that is definitely a great lifehack. Thanks! You really helped!
You made my Subaru experience SO much better with the seatbelt alarm tip!! I wear my seatbelt, but my driveway is 1/3 mile long and I stop to get the mail at the end, and would have to buckle to avoid the alarm. No more!! Best tip EVER!! Thank you!!!!
A weird feature I noticed on mine is when you lock out the windows from rolling down (passenger and rear seat) the light actually turns off on those door controls. I thought it was a cool detail, but you don't notice it until night driving.
Is there anyway to leave the AVH (auto vehicle hold) permanently on. I use this every time I drive, but it shuts off when the ignition is turned off and must be manually turned on every time in drive.
The ability to put the key fob into sleep mode seems like a hidden feature. That, combined with the unlock code seem like it would be a handy feature if you wanted to go on a hike or canoe trip or something and wanted to lock the key fob inside the car and avoid risking losing your keys out on the trail.
Is the seatbelt alarm tip seat specific? I don't see any reason to disable the driver seat, however in my 2017 Crosstrek any weight above about about 30 lbs will trigger the passenger seat alarm. would be nice to be able to fix that issue, but I'd be concerned about how that ties into the airbag systems as well.
The PIN code is great when you don't want to be carrying your key FOB around with you eg going to the beach or a run or cycling or going for a swim. Just lock the key FOB in the car before you leave then use the code to access the car.
Two problems: 1. You don't want accidentally leave your key in the car and lock the car. So normally a car shouldn't allow you to lock it when a key is inside 2. 5 digit pin is not something very secure. If you leave your car on the same parking everyday, pin could be bruteforced in a week or so
1. You disable the keyfob proximity function so you are able to leave the keys in the car. 2. The code is set by you and would mean something only to you.
A button the disabled button down sort of below the the dash gauges, they took it off of the software menu so that's kind of nice you just reach down there and plunk it every time you start the car no big deal I think if you hold that button down and then start the car it might freeze it out so it will stay it will always be disabled even when you turn the car off and then back on again it's very similar to the seat belt clicking hack 30 times thing 👍
By the way there is a gas cap lock override it's a single fuse just for that and all you have to do is pull the fuse but you will get a light on your dashboard that you can't turn off. It's some kind of a gas cap warning light and again if you look cool inspection State like California that's not going to pass inspection if that light is on and you have that fuse pulled so make sure you put your fuse back in for that particular thing when you're having your car inspected
My mom drives an outback and as she was going around to the drivers side while the garage door was opening she wasn’t aware of the wave to open the lift gate and as she shuffled behind the car the trunk opened and hit the garage door as it was opening, now there is a good size dent on the bottom on the tailgate so just be careful.
I can't drive in stealth mode with the headlights off ever, not really stealth but I'm going to drive in movie theater and I just have to open my door something or start the car to warm it up I can't keep the headlights off and yeah sure the parking lights but sometimes the screen brightness kills it
Is there a way stop the dinging when you have the rear hatch open I often carry lumber that is longer then the car and I wanna get rid of that annoying dinging sound
I'm waiting for my new Outback Touring XT to arrive. In the mean time ... does the horn chirp every time you lock the car? If so, is there a way to disable that?
I'll say that there might be a firmware hack out there for Android which is essentially what Subaru's run on that could allow you to disable the gas cap lock without having to pull the fuse and the dashboard light won't be lit and you only need two connector will not report that the gas cap lock doesn't work however the smart inspector lock your car walk around to the side and if they can push the door open they know it's faulty. I'm pretty sure that gas cap locking is not part of an inspection process unless they see the light lit on the instrument cluster probably will pass inspection I don't believe that's a safety issue per se.
To get rid of the stupid (Calif. Tree Huggers) on/off feature go to the dealership and they will install a computer chip that has an icon on the screen. When you start the car just tap the icon and you are free of that unwanted feature until you stop the engine. It is fabulous. Any mechanic would tell you the hardest thing for an engine is turning it on.
Well I'd like to see is stronger gas jets on the arm pushers for the non-motorized hatch on the Subaru models, and a little solenoid pusher so that when you wave your hand over the badge it pushes the door open just enough so that the pneumatic arms push the door open on their own power looking like it's powered but then you of course have to manually do have to close it, that'd be nice half feature that can be standard on a car but who knows maybe the maybe all the cars of 2022 will have the motorized hatchback but I do know that the motorized hatchback with the current gas jet push arms the motor does have to work overtime to push it's not that great I would highly recommend that you replace those as soon as you own your car. I wouldn't replace them on a lease that's just money down the drain. But if you own it do it. A casual pushing my arm I expect the door to close I don't expect to have to shove my fist into the door a second time to get it to close all the way That I would like to see in Forester doors
Also regarding the seatbelt light man being solidly lit I don't know of a way other than a firmware hack that you can have a seat belt but not have the chime sound at least not without taking the speaker out of the out of the instrument cluster which is a little bit of work but it's easy enough to do in a lot of the Subaru's That way you won't hear the time but you'll always see the man and when you're pulled over by a cop you're not going to hear the chime anyway but the man will be lit solid, a smart cop is going to see that there's no man lit and if there's no red man lit that means you did something or you got to burn out man light and in California you won't pass inspection and if a cop thinks you won't pass expansion it could write you a warning to have your car go get inspected and the second time might not be a warning it could be a ticket, and a vehicle that doesn't pass inspection probably can't be legally driving on the road, so be real careful in those states that have inspection requirements where the seatbelt light man solid red must be functioning properly in order to pass inspection. 😎
I know it's a lot of comments for me to Wade through I'm going to have to go in and edit these pretty soon. What I had for the for the putting in the pin sequence so that you can unlock a car and by the way that button you're talking about is on all the models whether there's a motorized hatch or not just so you know. Should we do this with the engine off? Cuz I try with the engine on and I'm getting a long tone from the out the outside speaker the one that you get like if you have your parking brake on and you open your car door and leave the parking brake on you got that long tone that's outside of the car, that happens but I had my car running when I tried to put in the pin I think I have to have the car turned off when I do the pin and should I roll the window down and have all the doors closed or is it okay to have the front door open when I do this for the you know putting in the five digit PIN By the way I found out that the Android firmware hack allows you to create up to an eight digit PIN or down to a three-digit pin which is kind of nice little quicker access. You can also use the same button pin combo sequence that you create on the inside of the car in order to start the car without the key fob. This technique is done by pressing in the rear window child lock button to lock then using the left rear window button now deactivated, type in the five digit PIN you created for your trunk and your car will start you'll have 30 seconds to hold the brake down and press the start button without the key fob because you've entered the pin correctly. If you enter the pin incorrectly your car may go into emergency cutoff mode which will then require you to have the key fob or they'll have to enter that pin again in order to reset it but you'll have to enter the pin correctly otherwise it's going to stay in auto theft mode. Don't get it wrong of course another way to reset it is you guessed it all the negative terminal off the battery wait 20 minutes and then put it back on all of the little tricks will be reset, unless of course you have the Android hack firmware setup you can enter the pin on the infotainment screen and you can also have your car memorized all of its settings from when you unplug the battery
(6:48) So, to get into the car when key is unavailable, one has to click that single fingerpad on the liftgate the number of counts for each of the 4 to 5 digit code that was programmed. Well, forget about emergencies. And forget about higher count digits. Most people will tend to use lower count digits, and that will make it easier to figure out the code. Subaru, take this back to the drawing board.
This isn't a real world concern. It takes a decent amount of time to attempt a single entry (5 digits, clicking up to 10 times for each one, waiting between each digit). Also, after 5 incorrect attempts, there is a 5 minutes cool-down. So even if you can do it fast enough to do one attempt per minute, you are still looking at 5 attempts every 10+ minutes. And if you put a secure pin thats higher in digit then it provides even more security. A zero requires 10 presses, so if you put a pin with high digits they'd be there for days. That's also assuming they even know about the feature, and if they assume you even have a pin set. It's pretty secure.
I finally found the trick and there's a reason why you have to do it three times it's very similar to when you're reprogramming a new remote that you have to do with the sequence three times to program a new remote you know that door open closed lock lock thing unlock thing that whole business which is I know that's true for the the terrains the GMCs I don't know Subaru the house are similar feature or not but yeah you do have to do that thing three times within 30 minutes so it's with it's 20 times within 30 seconds car off car back on another way that you know that it works on the third time is the Little Red Man and above the speedometer after it flashes for when you start the car it will actually go off it will turn off you won't see the red man if you see the solid red man you know that you have to do the sequence again so you turn the car off and turn them back so ignition is on do the thing 20 times so repeat that whole process three times and at the end of the third time you'll be fine it should work and you know as an extra measure make sure the car is off get out of the country seat and get your ass up off of the seat and then back on the seat that could also affect it but pretty much it's three times each time within 30 seconds do the seat belt thing in 20 times you don't have to press the you can press and hold down the lock button and put the thing in 20 times because if you if you press and hold and release the lock button that will not that will not always work and then you might have to find that you're doing it five and six and seven times the way you did it by holding the the seat belt release in and then plugging the belt lock in 20 times that is guaranteed to work at the end of the third time or the third cycle, man I hope I explained that enough I think I explained it three times to drive home the point that you need to do it three times
I figured out that I can turn off the display and then use voice control with the command "Play preset #1". I can then use the controls on the steering wheel to scroll through presets and adjust volume. Still.... sooo annoying
So anyone can open your car by waving their hand in front of the sensor? Or does it only work if you have the fob in your pocket? He didn't explain it very well.
Nice video, but some of these aren't necessarily "hidden". Sales people should be going over the "basic" features. Like lowering the seats. But #4 and the bonus. Thank you for the tips on those :)
what do you do if the rear hatch will not open when your hand is near, over, by, it? But hatch will open on its own in the car wash. what do you do if you get hundreds of warning lights on the dash, Collision warning, when no one is around, lane change warning, when perfectly centered, tire pressure warning, when tires are just fine, keep your eyes on the road, when they are on the road, info screen is blank nothing on it but time and temp. What do you do if the dealer sees and notes some of these problems, but will not fix them???? This is a short list of errors on my new Outback. Subaru will not stand behind their cars.
i may know nothing, but I'd encourage you to go higher than your dealer until you find someone who will listen and act. Sounds like you have a technical malfunction and/or a lemon
30 times, they changed it for 2021 models have to repeat the process three times in a row. If you're running Android girl loaded at ignition time, you actually don't have to do all that nonsense..
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville Can you elaborate by "invasive" ? The one I see plugs into your front camera circuit for some reason. Not sure if it works as advertised www.autostopeliminator.com/products/2020-subaru-outback-autostop-eliminator
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville True enough, but it looks pretty straightforward. probably going to buy an XT later this week (Put my order in at least) Seems like a great car overall. Liked your video.
When the government nannies decided seat belts would be required they begged the public to let them make it law and swore they would NEVER pull anyone over for no seat belt, that it would only be an issue with some other moving violation. Well, they passed the law, and guess what... THEY LIED, soon after they went full tyranny on seat belts, and now besides the spamming of gov ad council commercials and click it or ticket signs everywhere, your car bugs you for the nanny state, and the sheeple OP even repeats the required mantra...
dude you may be driving at slower pace around your neighbourhood but the person who hits you may not be so stop giving bad advice and wear your seatbelt as you could be held liable for advising people they do not need to wear a seatbelt at low speeds
That secret code is not a secret as such, it is ''Configure PIN-code Access" described better elsewhere for when going to the beach etc and don't want to carry the keys along. Too much talk in your video.
You can defeat the start/stop by simply turning the wheel 1/8 to 1/4 turn as you stop. With time you’ll learn to “feel” when the steering pump is engaged. That’s far enough to keep the engine running while you’re in a line at the drive through or simply at a stop. Once you start to roll, lightly hold the steering wheels and the front wheels will start to head straight again.
Go to the dealer and get the head unit update, it surfaces the stop/start button to the main screen for one touch access. Dealer does for free, takes less than 1 hour @ dealer.
you have totally missed the point of the pin code. It is so you can lock the key in the car, while you go off on your wilderness adventure, without fear of breaking your very costly electronic key fob.
1. Easier way to turn off start stop: Press the little car on bottom left of main screen, go to Other tab, then toggle off. I would love to see a permanent off (yes I understand I'm burning more gas and more emmisiton.) -From the main little car screen you can also turn on AVH very helpful when at drive though or long light. 2. I put my key fob in sleep mode and lock it in the car all the time when I go to the beach. Then use the hidden pin to get back in the car.
I saw another video that talked about the auto start stop function; it stated it would save about 0.02 gallons per tank (it I’m remembering the “per tank” correctly). That doesn’t seem worth it. But it was more of a “fuel efficiency” qualification, to meet a regulation, and was only feature, not an actual fuel saver - sad.
I live on a ranch & have a 2 mile driveway & get in & out many times to open gates. Not having to listen to the chime because I don't have the seat belt on is a blessing! I guess I could buckle the seat belt & then get in, in this case.
Most useful hack- seatbelt chime disabled Most interesting hack- password unlock button Hack I wasn't expecting- put your key in rest mode (doing that to my spare)
@@999pr1 the auto start's affected by the brake pedal. Push the pedal hard or very lightly and auto stop turns off. If you hold brake down with moderate pressure auto start should come on in about 10 - 15 sec and stay that way until you let up on/push hard on the brake _or_ if system decides engine needs to be on for another reason (rear defogger, etc).
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville I've been coming back to the video a bunch as I settle into my new 2021 Outback Limited XT, so I figured others might be doing the same and find it convenient when they come back for reference! You should have seen my dealer's face when I showed them Bonus Feature 2!
Oh woh! When you live in rural Australia and have to get through up to five gates on your own property, to get between the road and your house, the seat belt alarm makes you want to take to it with a sledge hammer but now I know how to disable that. That for me is very exciting. This is THE best thing I have learned from watching these videos. Thank you!
I think Subaru has some awesome tech but as someone who just bought one of these cars in July, it would have been nice for the dealer to let me in on it. Appreciate this video very much!
Omg! THANK YOU!! All of it is excellent to know... but the seat belt alarm... that's gold! I always wear it but can be slow to get it on and I usually unbuckle on my street out of habit and it always ruins my music. Also, if I put my groceries in the front seat it goes off and I HATE it. Lol. Thanks again!!
😁nice tricks...here one more! To stop the Engine from shutting down @Stops😳 Press /activate the Rear (defroster!) Works Temporary 15min, without all those long steps...Just press once, no distractions..Warning in summer you might want to do long way😁glass/mirrors will warm up😂Happy Travels..👍and if you have Ventilated seats..just long press to turn off, instead of 3times😁
That's interesting. There is a way to put the auto start stop button on your home screen as a shortcut too, easier to disable that way. Not sure if it's available in older years but it's there in '22
After a software update of my 2020 outback, there is a widget on the homescreen to disable the auto start! I was soo happy about it! So easy to just touch it when you get in!
The seatbelt thing is great l, I often carry heavy camera bags in my passenger seat and hate the seatbelt warnings, gonna try this out when the wife returns with the brand new outback!
Oh my the seatbelt thing is ridiculous without this secret even when you drive 20 feet it chimes and keeps chiming even though you pulled over and are stopped, love this car but without this hack, I would go crazy.
Just got a 2021 with the touring package and bummed to learn that it has no remote start. Just can't figure why. That getting louder chime with the seat belt is WOKE BS!! Good tips
Now this is all fun and games but when you in California when you take your vehicle in for a vehicle inspection and sticker which I think everyone has to do in California I'm probably New York and I don't know maybe another state if the seat belt light does not function properly it shows up as a bad code you'll pass your emissions but you will not pass the vehicle inspection so, how do you get this to revert back you have to pull the battery no Do not have to pull the battery, all you have to do one way to do it unless you've done a whole bunch of other cute tricks you could do it by going into a factory data reset of the car also it's very possible that a download of the infotainment center could possibly reset the activity that we're doing here this video for the seatbelt like. A possibility exists but I haven't heard of that happening. Remember the the firmware download for the infotainment center affects everything and every menu item that you see in the infotainment center it's not just for entertainment it's also for the info. The way to reset so that your seatbelt like functions properly, just do the sequence again as if you were going to start the sequence again, fortunately you only have to do that sequence of 20 times in 30 seconds once you don't have to do it three times and we'll see about man will stay lit solid and you'll have the same annoyance back again for a proper inspection pass.
Like everything you talked about BUT- take way not using seat belt, even giong slow you don't want anyone not to use a seat belt,. EVER if that car is moving. Trust me on this. Thanks
My 21 Ascent has the lock button on the far right on the tailgate. Wonder if it has the wave to open. The kick to Open the tailgate feature is the one I miss the most from when i drove a Ford.
hold info button and press tune knob twice, it will allow you into settings that allow you calibrate the backup cameras on screen guides. From there you can leave that on while driving.
So what happens if a bad guy at a parking service sets the rear hatch while you're doing something? Does that mean at a later time you could have your auto broken into or do you need to reset the passcode every time?
Regarding auto stop/start - you can turn on the back defogger and that will work in the meantime. Supposedly you can ask the dealership to disable the feature but who knows what that may do to your warranties.
My dealership did a software update that adds a button to the console that turns auto start/stop off. It still comes back every time I stop and restart, but pushing one button is easier than the tap dance I had to do before. ... By the way, my dealership also told me that within the next few years it will be illegal for new cars to include the ability to turn auto start/stop off.
Unfortunately I have found for some reason the car will occasionally rescan and no longer recognize me. Don't know why but it is annoying that at one stop light I get the white disable auto start and then the next stop light its enabled. And then when I get to my destination it asks me to setup. It's odd and happens every time.
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville: You’re most welcome. Great job. A question if I may: Which SUV do you recommend as the best all around vehicle for long road trips, with both on and off road capabilities. I’m in the market for a brand new SUV to use on our upcoming (post pandemic) road trip from San Diego to Vancouver (Canada) and back. On the way we’ll be making frequent off road excursions as well; hence the necessity for both highway and off road capabilities. Comfort, security, and reliability are extremely important to us; a good gas mileage is also important, but not a deal breaker. There will just be myself and my better half, no kids or pets, so no need for a third row seating. So far my short list includes: 2021 Land Rover Defender 110, 2021 Subaru Outback Touring XT, 2021 Subaru Forester Touring, 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Badlands, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, and Range Rover Sport SRV. Your thoughts, opinions, and recommendations on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Have the dealer install the head update and you’ll have a virtual button right on the front panel to turn off Auto Stop/start! Best update ever! 2020 Outback Onyx XT and later I imagine.
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville, true. But as I needed to bring it in for its scheduled service I let them do it. And since it classified as a recall, there was no charge.
you can add the "auto start stop" icon to your main page and just simply tap it every time you get in instead of going through the several steps you went through to turn it off
3.39 - i have a 2020 forster and that locke button can be used to reopen the boot as it is closing if required without having to wait for it to close completely
Good info and the secret button press would have probably helped when this happened.... I tried to start the car from inside my home to get the a/c running as it was 95 out. But the app just seemed to go into ‘wait’ mode with a spinning ‘I’m thinking’ sign. So I closed the app and headed out for work. Got into the car and push started with the button. Found I needed something and as I got out the lights and beep went off 4 times. I didn’t think anything of it so I got out and closed the door. When I returned the car was locked and the fob would not operate. None of the buttons. My car was running and my phone was in the car and I was locked out. Not even the proximity handle would operate. Went in and go the spare fob but it would not operate either?? Looked on internet and realized I could use the valet key so went back out and remembering the secret button I pressed it for a long time and the car just began beeping at me with one long beep. Realizing I never set the button up I tried the valet key which at this point wouldn’t work so I went back to the internet and after finding nothing decided to retry the valet key. The long steady beep stopped while I was inside the house so I tried the valet key and it worked this time. I was able to get to work and left the car unlocked because I didn’t know what I had messed up. Going back to the car later everything operated as normal again. Fob and all. So I set a secret code just in case and locked the car with the fob. Now I get 5 beeps when I lock it instead of just one!? But it works as normal otherwise. Now what??
I've used PIN code unlock on (almost) every Subaru Legacy/Outback Wagon I've ever owned: 1995 Legacy 250T (JDM), 1997 Grandwagon (NZ new ... sold just 18 months ago), 2017 Outback Touring (USA). Oh the earlier models the PIN entry was via lifting the driver's door handle, not the black button on the tailgate on the 2017 model. It's super handy if you want to go swimming in the ocean and leave all your stuff in the car and the car locked. Exception: I haven't yet found this feature on the 2008 Outback 2.5XT EYESIGHT (JDM) I bought a few months ago. I don't know whether it doesn't have it, or it's just implemented in another way. Does anyone know?
