Command Center is very cool. One of my favorites is to add a second button to the looper to make it easier to use. I find the one button looper to tricky to use.
Great video, Steve! I use Snapshots extensively, creating Snaps for each section of the song-- Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Solo, etc. But using Command Center to assign a single button to cycle through the Snapshots in a certain order can make it so that I don't even need to think about hitting the correct Snapshot button (or accidentally hitting the wrong one!) - just cycle through them in order with the press of a single button!
I guess the issue comes when you accidentally push a double stomp on the fs so you miss the correct snapshot and then you gotta fast click to cycle again
I’ve been using stomp mode since the beginning. With the Placater amp for example you can add the c42 switch, the hbe switch etc to the floor controller plus my pedals I normally use plus a switch to go to another preset, maybe a clean channel for example. I’m using Helix rack with the floor controller. Lots of flexibility. I’ve created 3 channel amps this way with effects. Wonderful.
Great vid steve! I run bottom left 3 buttons on helix as 3 snapshots( cool, warm and hot). It hadn't occured to me to have a different selection of stomps on each one!
I've been using Scroll Mode on my HX Stomp for a while, with an additional 2-botton Controller for FS 4 and 5 to cycle through the 3 Snapshots. I press the Page button on the unit to get into Stomp Mode. I haven't taken enough advantage of the extremely powerful Command Center yet. Your videos on how to use it are insightful, and encourages me to think about how I can get more out of it. Thanks
I honestly know absolutely nothing about the Helix family. I’ve had a few friends swear by the various models in the lineup. Knowing that the voicings are all the same from the lowest in the platform to the highest makes me think this may be a good way to go. I thought it would be a lot more complicated than this to set one of these up, but you make it look pretty easy! Haha!
Legend, thanks for this. It finally makes sense. Really annoying that HX effects doesn’t show the name of the snapshot on the Footswitch. Must be a bug.
Been doing this for about two weeks now and I think it’s the best way to get the most out of HX Stomp XL. I assigned 2 foot switches to go up and down snapshots and 4 for stomps.
Been playing live 50 years, but new to the HX XL. Thanks you for these videos .... very informative indeed. What are those opaque covers over some of your stomp switches please?
It's taken me some time to appreciate the massive power of The Helix. Once you demonstrated Command Center my mind got blown ! And now this Haha. Cheers !
Thanks, this was really helpful. I can't make the snapshot name appear on the HX unit. Can anyone help? I am using a single footswitch to switch between two snapshots and renamed them DRY and WET. If I toggle the switch the display only says "snapshot". Can't figure this out.
ha. the manual doesn't really give examples, which makes command center seem a little obscure. thanks for sharing your knowledge! when I bought my hx effects the guy at the store was like," use command center. trust me. it's super powerful." I totally trusted the guy, but once a got a few settings I liked I just mainly used stop mode. now I have the hx stomp xl and figure I mess with using the hx effects mostly as a controller. I'm thinking command center may allow me to do more than just send midi changes. not sure, but I would like to dedicate the far left (1 and 4) to preset up and down and 2,3,5 and 6 to snapshots 1,2,3 and 4. this way I can just use the hx effects as a midi controller. I would also like to run at least on extra expression pedal through it too. just not sure how all this would work. I'll give it a try though! thanks for your help!
Excellent video Steve! You must be a mind reader because this is exactly what i need to know right now. I've been mainly using Snapshots but have hit a road block...... This is the solution! Thank you, thank you!🙏
Wish you could change foot switch assignments per snap shot. Only way I can change foot switch assignments is with presets but then it recalls the saved state and not the last applied, which messes things up when your trying to trigger an external looper or device.
Hey Steve, thanks for the great content, really dig your channel. I have a question, so on HX effects inside global settings you can choose 4 switch stomp mode, which turns the left 2 switches into preset/bank or snapshot up down switches, why not do that instead?
You can do it however you want! This was more to show you all the options. Thats the beauty of it! Maybe someone didnt want the left side to be their snapshots and prefer them to be left and right 🤷♂️🤷♂️ this lets the users decide
@@SteveSterlacci I think it's more convenient to do the way you do it for me because you see which snapshot you're at instead of seeing just up and down switches, you might get lost like that (HX Effects doesn't show which snapshot you're at). Thanks!
I'm not sure if this issue is related to my preset, but it may help others who run into it. I originally had footswitch 2 set to bypass an overdrive, and I then assigned a snapshot to it in command center. I forgot to change the setting in the overdrive to not bypass on that button, so the first time I pressed it would toggle the OD, then the second time it switched to the snapshot. I went in and changed the setting, but I still had to press the button twice, only this time it didn't do anything the first time. To solve that, you have to go back into command center and clear the assignment and then reassign. It wasn't obvious to me and took a little bit to figure out and I'm sure someone else will run into the same thing.
*** Line 6 said this is a bug HX EFFECTS *** Background: Using snapshots in stomp mode would be my preference. Why? Because having to hit the two Bank switches with my foot at the same time is not a easily repeatable action to put me into snapshot display. The ability to use one footswitch in stomp mode is reliable. This can be setup in the command center easily by assigning one of the foot switches. Problem: The scribble strip does not show which snapshot you are on after the first press. When going into stomp mode, the name of the snapshot that is the target is displayed properly. After the first press, the snapshot name that is the next programmed target is no longer shown, the word Snapshot is shown. There is no feedback on the scribble strip saying what is the target of the next foot switch press.
Just got one of these units. How do you make footswitch left a complete bypass? No effects, make it clean bypass like I'm plugging straight into the amp. I seem to be getting a little color in my pure tone. Thanks
Help me out here. So, if I have song that goes from snapshot 1 to 2 for verse & chorus then 3 for lead, do I have to hit the switch twice to get back from 3 to 2 if I need the chorus snap again?
Hey Steve, I appreciate all your helix vids. They have helped me tremendously. I have a question for ya. Can you rename snapshots instead of 1,2and3 ? I have a LT which allows it, but just got a stomp and can’t seem to figure that out. Thanks
You can press the upper knob between home and action to enter the preset list then press knob 2. There you can cycle through pages to edit the name and led color.
@@SteveSterlacci Hi, thank you for this video. Will try to apply it in my presets. I can change my snapshot name and led color ns HX Stomp by going to the preset list view (pressing upper knob while in play view) then choosing snapshot by scrolling knob 2. Pressing knob 2 would allow me to edit snapshot names and led color. Hope this helps.
This is great, but am I correct in assuming that, if you need to go from Snapshot 1 to Snap 4, or Snap 3 back to 2, that this ISN'T the optimal way to set it up?
Yes. You can set up whatever order you like. I was just showing you how to do it in general. I would want the ability to "return" to the previous snapshot if i accidentally hit it twice
This is actually mind-blowing. I never used my stomp like this. Thank you Steve, I will dig depth of helix ux even further. I have quad and hx stomp. But for me stomp is most user friendly device. If one day line 6 still release their new processor with new engine but with such comfortable interface, I'll sell any other unit for this because, my lord, this is most comfortable thing I ever use in my job as session guitarist
Am I understanding this correctly: you can assign a footswitch to change parameters for multiple blocks? Can you also change multiple parameters for a single/multiple blocks? That would be pretty huge honestly, and cover the vast majority of what I do with Snapshots in the first place.
The limit is something like 64 different parameters for a single footswitch. Personally, I have had erratic experiences mixing parameters controlled by switches and by snapshots. But Steve and I run different setups and do different things.
LOL, just finally subbed to the channel after seeing a cool new way to optimize my Helix layout (Steve, I had already bought a Nordland ODR-C way back based on your demo) and now I see he's using your title for the video,@@ZaryaMain
@@jaroswave one year we stayed across the river from the viking village! Was very cool. It was Western Piknik. But we won't be back. We will hopefully be in Poland though!
It's a cool way to approach things but isn't only valuable with the stomp xl or full blown helix? Unless you add extra foot switches to the stomp, I think there is no benefit gained. Maybe I am missing something?
@@SteveSterlacciI am using command center with snapshots. So I have "instants" setup to change patches on my strymon or control analog pedals on my dpc5. Barring the fact that you are committed to instants in CC, I think it does the same thing. Great video and good info for all of us who are constantly trying to find a better way.
@@SteveSterlacci yeah I had in my mind that I could have the all stomp buttons mode. Like when you're in assigning the foot switches to your format you would pick snap / stomp. I thought the risk one that said 8 stomps. Like it said 8 presets. I got it going on now though great tip. Thanks!
Wouldn’t it be cool if it was possible to have more than 3 snapshots on HX Stomp. In Stomp mode the layout can be different for each snapshot. So You could easily make an endless route of snapshots in command center. Even only using two of the switches
But can you create another "snapshot" this way? Can you make it behave like in snapshot mode with each button handling several effects controls at once and then add another footswitch on fs4 on a regular HX Stomp for example and have it do the same? And then say you click on your first footswitch and it gets you back to snapshot 1?
@@SteveSterlacci so as long as I stay out of snapshot mode I could build a preset which could behave the same way as with snapshots eg changing different effects and parameters at once on every footswitch and have the same thing happening on a switch on fs4, effectively doing the same as having 4 snapshots on my regular stomp? There's nothing only the snapshots can do? I wanna replace my hx effects by my hx stomp on my pedalboard for sizing reasons but I need 4 "snapshots"
@the_hippykiller22 in command center you can put your 4 snapshots and another 2 independent FS assignments. These extra 2 wont behave exactly like snapshots, but they can do multiple bypass assignments, paramter changes etc... it just cant be the same parameters that the snapshots control already.
@@SteveSterlacci I don't think I can put a fourth snapshot on the non XL, regular Stomp? Couldn't find that. I was thinking on maybe having fs4 triggering snapshot 2 as the 2nd internal footswitch already does but also turning on another effect pedal that's not on my snapshot 2 say a flanger, I could then go back to another snapshot and it would turn off said flanger? Thanks in advance!
@@SteveSterlacci Yeah, although command center is very finicky as each snapshot can have it's own command center that have to be saved before switching snapshots. Alot of flexability, just a steep learning curve!
@@SteveSterlacci yes, but you are just using the "next" function, I use it to call another snapshot, then on the other snapshot, I make it call a differnt snapshot. i.e. first press = snapshot 4, then when 4 is up, a press calls snap shot 6. The issue is that saving in HX Edit only saves command center changes to the current snapshot, so it you change the CC settings in one, you must save before working on the next one. I understand how to use them, it jsut took some time to realize that CC changes need to be saved beofre you toggle to the next snapshot.
Yeah, same here, a mix of snaphots and stomps right where I need them. And when you select a snap, you can free up one more pedal. I think the CM feature is still not having the attention it deserve.
I'm following along but its not working. I have my footswitch 1 in snapshot mode I have it selected to snap 2 when I press it but nothings happening when I press it. Am I supposed to save it somehow?
You may have a global setting that discards your snapshot changes. So any time you hit it, it's going to revert to its last save. You can turn this off in preferences, or just save before you change snapshot
Using snapshots and being in snapshot mode are 2 different things. Snapshot mode means every button is a snapshot. This tutorial was supposed to show that you can put any amount of snapshots anywhere you want
I guess this is a good option for those who make do all night with a single preset. A lot of memorization this old brain cannot handle. I find it ridiculous that Line 6 has not yet enabled these abilities within snapshot mode where 1. you would be able to see what the heck is going to happen when you press a switch and 2. you don't have to create your snapshots in one mode and then go to stomp mode (and then to the uber-confusing Command Center) to then assign them. When I think how much work it would be to take advantage of any of this in any practical way since I use one preset per song, I just shut down completely,. What a waste of power. Really I wish I never even know this existed given the latent power not available to snap users.
The new command center along with snapshot bypass and snapshot control parameter are the most powerful upgrade Line6 gave to helix/HX users on stage. @stevesterlacci Unfortunately at the moment the ext amp command you can assign to a FS (to change amp channel on a real amp) doesn't have a snapshot control parameter that can be set to off.
