Roundup weed killer and other glyphosate weed killers are dangerous pollutants! Vinegar is a safe alternative!

Sign this petition to tell EPA not to re-up approval for RoundUp: action.organicconsumers.org/o/50865/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=16052

Just proves that the EPA isn't actually doing anything other than taking bribes. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Mons's power is so far reaching and so great you may as well just lap that websites info up and be done with it. Good luck.

World Health Organisation embarrassed to admit they should have focused on vinegar....and not Glyphosate...national outcry.

+JaycubL yes. in reference to claims above vinegar will be more toxic as a weedkiller than Glyph.
@LordAmbrosia1
@LordAmbrosia1 8 лет назад
+EarlyMist No. It is simply a more toxic substance. You know this.

Vinegar is too expensive for killing weeds, I assume all the vinegar does is change the PH of the soil and in that case you would be much better off buying concentrated HCl from the hardware store. HCl is $8 a gallon for 30%, vinegar is $3 per gallon at 5% concentration. When you dilute the HCl to 5% it works out to $1.50 per gallon. The prices are particular to where I live but I assume other regions would be similar.

+Kyler Kraus Yes at Walmart you can get vinegar for $3.28 per gallon, WAY cheaper than roundup. So price is not the problem. I am not sure if pH is the only way it is killing them but it could be. HCl smells like death / fire in your throat, but if you want to save like a dollar and use something more dangerous then OK.

Maybe you could dilute the HCl to less than 5% and still have it work due to the more toxic nature of it, 2-3% perhaps?
@JaycubL
@JaycubL 8 лет назад
Kyler Kraus That is possibly a good idea you came up with for using the HCl but I have never tried it so I can't really say much about it, other than it sounds like it would work and probably will not be much of a pollutant (HCl should react with rocks in the ground to form tame chemicals fairly quickly). Let me know how it works if you want!

Sure, I mixed up .5L of 3% concentration and poured on some weeds around my house. I did a few smaller weeds in between cracks in the concrete to see if the HCl is too reactive to be used in this situation, I also had a huge weed that resembled a small tree, used 200Ml for it. The HCl was actually pretty tame at 3%, it barely bubbled on the concrete and caused no damage after 5 minutes of being spilled on my hand. I will come back to check on the weeds in maybe 10 hours and I will report again then. I have an easy way to make large quantities of this weedkiller if it is effective. Get a HDPE 5 gallon bucket and fill 3/4 full with tap water, slowly pour in 1/2 gallon of 30% HCl, fill bucket to 5 gallons and stir with a PVC stick. This will yield 5 gallons of 3% at $0.80 per gallon or $4.00 for the whole thing.

Kyler Kraus Thanks fro the report! I am excited to hear the results on the weeds. The concrete will probably look bright and new.

Vinegar is more toxic than glyphosate, but just carry on as if you didn't hear that.

+Brookfield Why do you think that? I can't find anything else that agrees with your statement. It even has some health benefits. The closest thing to any danger from vinegar I can find is that if you drink way to much it can erode your tooth enamel or affect your body pH. Some people don't like the smell but I think it is a mild good smell (to some people it is a strong bad smell).

what the hell are you talking about? vinegar is safe compared to Glyph. safe for human consumption duh. Synthesized Acetic Acid might not be but good old vinegar...a ok.

JaycubL "I can't find anything else that agrees with your statement." How hard did you look? I just googled 'vinegar more toxic than roundup' and this was the first result, along with several others following it: weedcontrolfreaks.com/2014/06/salt-vinegar-and-glyphosate/ Everything, without exception, is toxic. See how much vinegar you can drink before throwing up. 'The dose makes the poison' is a fundamental thing to understand before pushing things like vinegar as non-toxic. This is something I didn't know at one time. I'm now glad that I do. This is a very worthwhile read: ei.cornell.edu/teacher/pdf/ATR/ATR_Chapter1_X.pdf You're already a step ahead of all the conspiracy nuts here in that you've given it some thought and replied without screeching "Monsanto shill". For this I am thankful.

EarlyMist "what the hell are you talking about?" If you read the links in my post above, you'll know. Whether something is synthetic or not says nothing about its toxicity.

+Brookfield I drink Apple Cider Vinegar every morning by the 3 tablespoons full...look up the benefits. Glyphosate is a systemic herbicide. I have used it extensively in my job. I have been in horticulture for over 15 years. vinegar application is contact based. if we were to start using vinegar / natural acetic acid on a large scale as a herbicide studies would need to be done if they haven't already but the fact is it is contact and not systemic. Glyphosate is about as systemic as you can get and like most systemic herbicides and insecticides they ALWAYS find a way into the animal and human food supplies. It is innevitable due to the science behind why it works in the first place. So if someone offers up a contact based natural (yes..chemical but not SYNTHETIC) alternative then why on earth would you put that down? Are you a shill for the big company that is M?
