Wow, this car is literally in amazing condition. It looks like it just rolled of the assembly line. When you did the walk round, I wasn’t expecting it to look that clean.
Thanks Basil!! That's EXACTLY how I felt when I first went to view the car. Based on past experience, photos can really lie, esp the low res ones on Mudah, but in this instance they didn't!! Hahaha!! The car really did look as good, or even better, in real life 😀👍🏾
this bro deserve a thousand likes. My father got one of these, uk version automatic with sunroof. the transmission is really smooth, blue interior (this beige interior looks more luxurious). this is one best ride, everytime i drive it, it makes you forget that its an old car.
So agree. Imagine my friend spent over 100k for a Sonata, apart from new design, my W124 still win over sunroof and hillstop assist. But mine only RM12k when I buy over. And it is a Mercedes Benz.
I have 123 and a 124, I think the W123 was a solid tank that keeps going and last for ever and the W124 is more refine in terms of gadgets. For pure driving pleasure I prefer the W123, having said that both a marvellous cars
Thank you Ting Phang!! Am VERY happy I got this. It was unexpected, when I went to see the car in Sban, I was 50:50, after I saw the interior and a quick test drive, I was sold!!😊🙏🏽👍🏾
Hey Chris! The car looks great, especially the interior! Somehow, I'm liking the wheels too, they're not too bad. Anyway, I've been loving watching your vids! 😁
The 230E is the one to go for.. With just the nice power to match. The 220E that came after as a facelift Masterpiece is a little underpowered while the 260E and 280E simply has the extra power you may never need. Unless you are on the track.
Absolutely right, it strikes a nice balance between being a comfortable cruiser to a highway bruiser, with just the right amount of power. An added bonus of course is the annual road tax, which is a lot less than its bigger engine'd stable mates 😁
The e220 / 220e introduced variable valve timing and actually has more power and torque than the 230e (and is more efficient)… but I definitely agree with the sentiment.
Beautiful car. I agree with you about planned obsolescence of newer cars. The new cars are meant to last about 10 years and then be scrapped. All of my 5 cars are old. Newest one I own is a 2002 Audi with almost 200k on it. I maintain them myself and only rarely do they go to a mechanic (transmissions only). I still consider anything built in the mid 2000's as a new car. I was taught to take care of stuff and not just trade it in every 3 years.
Really wonderful to read this after a year! Sorry, just saw this comment. Yep, my newest car is from 2005, the rest are much older but still going strong 💪 👍🏽😊
Thanks. It has the AMG sport package, and I had the secondary cats removed, installed an x-pipe, and removed the rear mufflers (only has primary cats and the middle resonator now) and had it tuned by OE Tuning. Runs good for heavy car. Also tinted the windows limo black and removed the S550 from the back so no one really knows what kind of big Mercedes it is.
Hi Chris! Lovely W124 in manual transmission some more! 😍 I got myself a 1994 E280 masterpiece... just wondering before you replaced the coils to Eibach Pro Kit springs, how was the oem overall? You mentioning OEM Shocks + Eibach Pro Kit springs as the combo ever really intrigued me to go for this setup too... Can you give comments and a little review of the eibach springs and is it really worth it to change it? Can’t seem to find any on your channel.
Nice car, well done! For me the difference in comfort was negligible, still very comfy, but the car felt more stable in corners with the Eibach progressive springs, that's for sure, less wallow and body roll 😀👍🏾🙏🏽
Loved this review. The best looking benz till date. The new ones can't come close. Can you do more videos on specialists and workshops who works on older cars. The sort of technology upgrades we can do to it to keep it usable this day and age? I enjoyed my ownership experience if a w124 230e uk spec during 2010 till 2012 until i totalled it in a crash in Tanjong Malim. The car saved my life that day. I'd love to buy another one someday.
Wow!! So glad to hear the car did its job and protected u in the crash! Yeah, these cars are rock solid and over-engineered at best. There'll be more videos coming on this car, this is just the first of many. Pls subscribe if u haven't so u don't miss out! 🙏🏽😀👍🏾
This is the best tonic for the haze. The seats, the gear shifting like a dream, what a steal, Chris. Just enjoyed seeing your enjoyment. Haha. Speaking of classics, I am thinking of getting or rather rescuing it and turning it electric or PHEV. Do you know of any mechanics in KL which do this? I cant seem to find any. We dont need any reminder with the haze that climate change, toxic air is a problem. I'm not sure how car enthusiasts and petrol heads will like the idea, but we need to find a balance between keeping classics alive and being 'green'. So I'm really keen on this.
Have you watched Geostorm? Lol!! I just watched it and that's exactly what Gerard Butler's character does in the movie 😂 Unfortunately, I've not heard of anyone doing it here though in real life, but kudos to you for thinking this way, it's very heartening 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🙏🏽😀
@@ChrisWeevilGarage Thanks. No I haven't. Good to see somone enjoying a good old car. Keep enjoying it's entusiasting to look. I'm on a BMW 318 ti kompakt e 46 automatic. And it's so sweet (and economical) My next will be the same in 325 six cylinder! And i will share it here. Bye!
It's masterpiece!. I own two w124. E280 and e230 (with 1 jz VVT-i engine).. and this 30 years old mercedes always make me feel safe.. (even sometime i 'kacau' v-tec guy).. hehe..
@@ChrisWeevilGarage well done!. 240 with 1g gte is a delicious recipe.. put a good brake, 18inch alloy wheel on it and good alligment and yum, automatically you have undistructable AK-47 with steering wheel!!
To each his own Vikash, actually I'm starting to like these, good conversation starter as u just proved, haha!! 😁 Thanks for watching and the feedback!🙏🏽😊
I once had a manual 300E (wagon, black with also black leather) The wagon had a hydraulic suspension, so i could put with a fork-lift truck a pallet with over 1t weight in the trunk and after starting, the car lifted his back.
If you were in Europe almost all the European cars are manual which is there normal day to day commuter but here in Malaysia a car like this with manual is a god sent.
100% correct!! In fact, in some parts of Europe, manuals outsell autos. Here though, they're going the way of the dodo.... sad 😞 Thanks for watching and the feedback Den!!🙏🏽😊👍🏾
Ah my fav Chris Wee... With this beautiful w124. Love old car reviews, very refreshing and interesting. W124 is indeeda legend and its in demand again recently i see. Ps Mr Wee please sell or give it to me when you are bored with your new toy! You already have lots of bigboys toys!
Hahahaha!! Hi Chris, thanks for dropping by to view my latest acquisition!! It was a lucky find indeed 😊🙏🏽 Ok deal, I'll let u know if i ever wanna let it go, it'll be listed in the Community section so check there once in a while ya 😀
Got a w124 e300 manual 1991 with 500650 kms in fantastic condition in amsterdam nl, Imported from germany in 2006,you just feel the quality with every aspect of the car Fun fact,m benz spend more than 1 billion to devellop this car, other car brands spend only 200 million to do so
Thanks Andre!! Yeah, I was scoping for a manual Merc, and I was close to buying a W123, but wanted something newer than my W126... then along came this 230E, went to see it right away and closed the deal on the spot 😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage My parents owns c200 w202. every time starts the engine sounds like a battleship. since then everyone in the house called it "battleship"
I have this, the original engine fuel consumption was really really bad since I use it daily for work, then I swap the engine with 4d56, it's feel really amazing when drive this beautiful car with 10/12 km / litre for urban usage
Chris Wee just simple fitting modification for the engine place, yes there are few mods engine mounting, and use 250d axle for the perfect final gear for that diesel engine, the rest just cross joint, its not a hard modification, relatively simple, I already used it for 5 years and still driving it till now everyday
@@ChrisWeevilGarage thanks chris....man i still do miss riding shotgun on that car....but i should not complain...cause i now drive a 2007 bmw e60523i and a 2008 VW polo gti 1.8 turbo with 5speed manual box....once both cars are fully sorted out...you are more than welcome to try it out and review it...take care man
@@ChrisWeevilGarage and chris you will really love driving this w124...as it is a bullet-proof car...save for the single bosch fuel injector fuel divider issue...which is a big ticket item to replace...everything else is cheap as chips to keep this car running...
@@ChrisWeevilGarage great to hear that...well mine has been decat and has a stage 2 dna tuning map on its n52b25 engine...puts a smile on my face each time i drive it....thanks
Lucky of you to get it at that price.standing still, the car exudes elegance and a powerful aura.just swap the rims with some german rims, and it is good to go.however, that TE37s do look nice though.
Thanks Stan!! They look different I have to say, never seen TE37s on a Merc!! The tyres are new so I'll keep using these for now. Cheers bud, thanks for watching and the comment, great to hear from you 🙏🏽👍🏾😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage keep churning out videos like this man..just dont collect too many of those retro, classic cars.keep some for us too you know.hahaha
just got me a W124 230E last Friday, everything is done by but a little work is require for the interior and perhaps a layer of paint externally ....what do you advise?
I own a 1991 W124 230e (auto) since 2016 - present. Bought it at 7k only (one owner), and I use it daily travel 240km (to & fro). The fuel? Padan laa with the 2.3cc...and still boleh titik Myvi. Hahaha
Hi bro, I don’t own any old school car now (I owned a Nissan 130y before, does that considered old school? 🤣 Now scrapped) but I think we have something in common. We love Manual Transmission cars. Yeahhh. Bought a new car 4 years ago, chosen manual over auto. Planing to buy another car next year, also a manual.... for my wife.... coz she loves manual transmission too 😂
Also a manual you mean? That's excellent bro!! Really glad to hear this. Yup, we are not alone, there are many out there who still prefer 3 pedals, sadly the demand is just not there for many car manufacturers to actively pursue producing manual transmission'd cars.... SO to the classifieds I go 😁😁😁
Chris Wee yes bro. A manual. Haha sorry. Ya bro a 3-pedals. It is sad to see those vanishing slowly. Might be something that we won’t commonly see in 10 - 15 yrs to come... maybe.
How reliable is it during the time u owned it cus I'm 18 this year and have always liked cars for a very long time. I see the initial price of continentals are quite cheap compared to JDM but how is owning the car in the long run is it alot more expensive to maintain compared to the eg civic of it's era or a newer economy car like the Corolla
Well tbh, these W124s are pretty hardy cars and as long as practice preventive maintenance and regular servicing, the running costs should be very decent, but parts can be expensive and hard to come by these days. It won't be as cheap to run as a Corolla tho, that's for sure 😊
Yep I know what like good reliable old cars I have 300e 24v 1990 and a 190e 2.6 1988 ive had for 9 yrs and the otheir for 10 yrs you cant bet the old benz .
Nice cars Brian!! Yep, these old gals still have a lot of life left in them, extremely happy with this one!! Thanks for watching and the feedback 🙏🏽👍🏾😃
Highly recommended. These cars were made to chew-up miles and miles and more miles with ease, you won't believe how proficient they are at that till u try. Just make sure everything is working well 👍🏽😊
I was never a big fan of the W124, I prefer the W123 & W126, oh and not to mention the legend that is the 190E. I find the former a little too boxy for my liking, but this one you got, with the stick shift, I think it's growing on me 😆
Don't tell anyone, but neither was I! It was only after I got to know the ones belonging to 2 good friends of mine last year, that I started taking a keen interest in them! And only very recently did I start actively looking out for one, but it had to be a manual. Wasn't too keen on the 200E, so when this 230E popped up on Mudah, I went to see it right away 😁
@@ChrisWeevilGarage I see. That's a coincidence. I do like the W124's interior though. One of the best IMO. But if I'm not mistaken, a 230E is still a 4-pot. Merc don't make small 6-pot engines like Beemers do... Does that make a noticeable difference when you drive it?
@@itsgerardchin correct, the 200E & 230E are 4cyl, while the 260E & 280E are in-line 6cyl. Because mine is a 5sp manual, it feels quick, maybe comparable to the 260E auto, but not the 280E, which is a sleeper and a half, it's a very fast car indeed 😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage I see. Damn I'd love to have a go. Can't wait for you to share other classic cars, especially manual such as this. Have you driven the W116?
@@itsgerardchin not yet! But I've owned a 70s W115 200, S123 Wagon and a W108 280S, which was the only car I've ever owned that was the same age as me, made in 1968!!😂
Im thinking of getting a W124 200E myself. Any pointers to take note in terms of maintenance or servicing? I cant seem to find a manual because they are rarer so how does the automatic gearbox hold up today? Thanks!
Good choice!! Actually there are very basic cars and easy to upkeep, preventive maintenance is key of course, and the auto variant is fine too. Manuals are rare indeed, only a few out there. Keep an eye on the fuel-divider 😊👍🏾🙏🏽
@@ChrisWeevilGarage thank you for the reply! Seems to me that theyre generally very reliable even today. I just hope i can get my hands on one now. Thanks and stay safe on the roads good sir! :)
@@ChrisWeevilGarage it takes a couple year for me to a liiitle bit "kenal" on this model. Because W124 has so many type... depends on the country assemble, year also custom! But, if you noticed almost every Japan car use "petak" license plate number. But hey, yours are quite limited tau.
@@patrick9761 no worries bud, u have a stellar line-up now, the W210 is very robust too isn't it? I think it's one of the last "built like a Sherman tank" Mercs, haha!! Well done🙏🏽😊👍🏾
@@ChrisWeevilGarage yep w210 is a tank we bought it for our daughter because they are so safe and luxury but I prefer Bruno design/styling w124s 126...
Nice find Tong!! Depending on the condition I can't say for sure, unless it's in absolute mint condition,15k sounds quite high to me, good ones are going for 10k or less. Then again it might be the last few MP units, but I'd keep searching, don't forget u still need to budget another 1k for insurance and road tax at least, and another 2k to do what I did with mine insofar as the full service and "blood transfusion" is concerned. There might be small parts to change too, due to wear and tear. Good luck!!🤞🏾🙏🏽😀
Hi Petar!! Posted another update video of the Fetta a few days ago, it's still in progress!! Slowly but surely, told them to take as much time as they need 🙏🏽🤞🏾😊
Better than an auto variant for sure, 5th gear is a cruising gear, still a bit thirsty in stop and go traffic. But it pulls a lot more urgently from 1st - 4th too 😉
Haha!! Thanks for watching and the compliment!! Yup, there's just something about these old cars that's so appealing to own and drive isn't there? I love them! 👍🏾😊
w124 are iron horse , best enginered cars . Own my self Ori 220E Masterpiece , Silvertop. Driving pleasure & comfort of w124 , even current Merc can't match .
