I drove this at yellow buses back in 2017 as a fan of Volvo I was sceptical but it was a great engine for a 5ltr it was probably in an eco mode but still drove nice better than any adl product ever has
These B5tl have now been sold on to Diamond Bus in East Midlands. These are currently operating around Burton on Trent. I wonder is diamond have destrsticted them from 42 mph? I love the B5tl. I prefer them over a Streetdeck
I Would have Loved to see how they would have fared in the US if there wasn’t some sort of policy that discouraged European Transit Buses from being sold in the US.
The recent examples on the ADL E400 MMC chassis with Lothian seem to be slightly more powerful, they do the job very well. Lothian's Gemini 3's from 2016 even are fairly powerful, particuarly can be proven at the Western Approach Road along the 22 service.
@@iiBus I noticed this, the engine in both body variants has the exact same 240hp and the gearbox is still the ZF Ecolife with the same gear ratios. There are two things which could differ, the first is the engine acceleration parameters might be slightly increased on the 400 bodied models, essential the engine is being allowed to put down more of its available power. The other can be that the Rear Axle diff Ratio has been reduced on the 400 bodied models which can benefit acceleration at the expense of cruising RPM being higher, I'm guessing that Volvo has fitted a rear axle ratio of 5.74 with these vehicles which was a ratio originally offered with the B9TL, if this has been kept the same across both variant it's simply the engine parameters which are different.
