I suppose it's a good sign though--more non-programmers are being drawn to Linux, making it more mainstream. I like that. Then again, I don't know how to exit emacs, so there's that...

julius carino there are plenty of good pdf readers on Linux.

Sadly, none of these work for serious video editors or professionals. That's one of the main reasons I've stuck with Windows on my main desktop, I would need something as user-friendly, intuitive, feature-filled, and stable as Premiere Pro. Unfortunately, Linux doesn't have an editor like that.

Jake , did you take a look at LightWorks? That's a pro application and it's not free.

I did, and I found it to be very unstable. If it had worked properly I would have considered it, but I couldn't justify spending money on it if I wasn't sure it would function properly. I have been using Premiere for a while now and love it, I just wish it was Linux compatible.

You have Blender? You can edit video in it.

I didn't like the video editor in Blender. I found it rather unintuitive, and very basic. More like an after thought than a dedicated editing software. Which makes sense, Blender isn't supposed to be a main editor.

Sounds interesting, I'm wondering if it can be set up to fake out a system to think it's a different time or date so as to generate documents or files so as to be date or time stamped different from what they other wise would be? I've often wanted something like that...🤫

Or you can use Uget which downloads your downloads you do from your browser by pausing the downloads and resume them at a later time in which the download manager in Firefox web browser does not do so with Uget you can plus Uget you can also download torrent files as well in which Transmission does only torrent files but Uget does both things in which I find quite amazing but if you only download torrent files then Transmission works fantastic otherwise use Uget :)

I like qbittorrent, it's an open-source uTorrent clone. I know uTorrent sucks, but this takes out all of the stuff that sucks about it.

I love Deluge. I have been using it headless on a Raspberry Pi for years now and connect remotely from any desktop I use.

I feel the same too as sometimes people change applications for the sake of changing but in reality sometimes it does the same thing as the old school application therefore in option sometimes old school is just best to keep but then again that could be because I am getting older so I tend to not like change as much as before LOL :)

Tell Adobe that... If I had a dollar for every time someone said that to me in a comment, I'd be rich. Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't listen to me when they make decisions but if if enough folks like yourself tell them they wan Adobe on Linux, they may listen to that. :)

I had a multi drive Windows / Linux. Began accessing Windows from Linux w/ Wine. Now I have Windows on VirtualBox. Office runs faster and doesn't freeze on me. I save all my files on an ext. drive. That lets my access them from Linux as well.

I think this was LM 17.3... There is a more advanced menu editor available by right clicking on the menu icon, choosing configure and the opening the 'Menu tab.... You'll see it toward the bottom of the page. Linux menus work the same no matter what desktop, by the way. If you figure out how to edit and manipulate it on one, it pretty much works the same for all.

@@EzeeLinux yeah, that's the one I've been trying to use... Maybe it's my desire to make the menu work like I have it in Windows. There I have it several layers deep like you can do it on Windows, prior to like 7 or 8... And you can just drag and drop things, including submenu's/folders and program items back and forth. That doesn't seem to be doable in Linux... I may have to adopt another way of working.

in Libre Office they are bugs that I face quite frequenly (in the styles in LO draw) but charts works without problems since day 1 and I was a user of Open Office before the fork to Libre Office and WPS office is more or less free, not open source, and the native file format is proprietary.

libre office can track changes -> menu/file/property/security/track changes I have wps here on 250 pc and I'm getting rid of it. - it is *not* open source, it belongs to a chinese company so they have to make money - During a time you could not print anything without "wps wps wps wps wps" written in the back ground - now they push add and you have to pay to get rid of it - and this is pure speculation but I really would like to see their code to understand how they got a working office suite so fast from nowhere and that behave exatly the same way as libreoffice on a problematic xls file... my choice is that if I have to put energy and time in a change, it must make a difference, libre office is open source, license free and the file format is also open. Moving from MSoffice to WPS is like choosing betwen the plague and cholera, I would choose MS, at least it produces files formats that can be read by other office suties, wps has it own format.

It does too much and I can't turn features off. I like to keep it simple and use dedicated apps for a lot of those things :)

I have to agree, also Clementine's CD ripper is shockingly basic. Rythnbox will rip your CD, tag it correctly and place it in to it's own library as well as saving the files in the correct folders.

It's ugly.

You'll need to make copies on an external drive and then copy them back in. Installing Linux wipes the hard drive clean. :)

@@EzeeLinux Only if you use a "dumb" installation mode "replace everything with Linux" - that's not the standard setting in a single Linux I ever installed and should not be in any.

@@ForOdinAndAsgard Yes....and MOST WIndows users looking to migrate to Linus..USUALLY start on Ubuntu or Mint...so knowing about Synaptic Package manager is a benefit for a few use cases. Although, I'll admit, Software Boutique for Ubuntu mate and Software Center or manager for Mint both have adding the last couple of remaining programs I use often in Winblows. So far in min 19 and ubuntu 18.04 ( be it vanilla or mate) I have had no real need to use synaptic yet.

@@motoryzen There is no benefit in using Synaptic anymore because the Software Center has taken its place and you need to install Synaptic either through apt in the terminal or with the Software center as it is not in the default program list anymore and most probably will be obsolete within the year.
