Just a brief diversion from my regular upload schedule for another game - Here's some useless VTOL VR Knowledge for all those tens of VTOL VR players out there...

One of the barriers for me getting absorbed into other simulators is the inability to really reach out and touch the actual instruments. Vtol VR has been possibly a life changing game in that regard for me, a lot of things finally click in my head and I have been able to play other more serious simulators as a result. So these things that are "useless" are just the things i need to really get in my head how everything works in a (abeit simplified) cockpit like this! I'll definitely use this to try and land ILS! Thanks!

Couldn't have said it better myself! MSFS and DCS have a *long* way to go before they are as immersive in VR as this game.

I'm getting into VTOL VR, but i'm also a student pilot and just now breaking into some instrument knowledge at my college and wow! this video is amazing for just explaining the HSI and approach operations! Thank you so much for this video, it's cleared up a lot for me around the concepts of instrument approaches!

Great vid! Editing is very clear and conveyed the information quite well even without a mic. Any chance you have actual pilot experience? Seems like you followed proper procedures to the t!

Thanks! I'll probably just use a mic next time, it took forever to do all those dang labels

I don't think I've EVER seen a smoother landing, that is just exquisite!

I hope VTOL gets clouds one day, this looks fun

I know right VTOL is a potato game and Microsoft flight sim has loading times that are like being tazed in the balls, so DCS is where I go to keep instrument flying proficiency these days...

That's very interesting stuff, none of which I had any idea about.

This is a fantastic video! Out of curiosity, where did you get the diagrams from, and if possible can you add links to the sources to the video description? Makes it much easier for us to reference ourselves later on. Given that it's VTOL VR you can definitely get away with landing a little fast on the airstrips, the planes are tough and the runways tend to be rather long. But it might be worth considering addressing how to use the AoA indexer to get the correct landing speed in a future video, as knowing how to determine the correct speed for your loading is important for the more difficult carrier landings.

It's funny you mention that, one of my future video ideas is to show a no-hud, no instrument AoA only approach technique 😉 For the diagrams I just randomly got them from google images, for the next video I'll make some proper ones.

Just made an excessively long AoA indexer video finally, hope the info I put in there is correct ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p-Zr9dV_XXg.html

Thanks! I'll probably make even better diagrams next time for the whole flight instead of just small parts of it, if ppl are interested in this kinda thing.

Also, I found that using ILS is super helpful for lining up carrier landings, say for those having trouble with Case 1 landings. Crawl before you walk kind of thing. I rode the ILS in at 9 ish degrees AOA, not looking out the window until I was less than 500 ft away and had the calmest carrier landing yet, after 4 months of not touching the game.

Why APU on when the engines are already running? Just curious.
@SLGY
@SLGY 2 года назад
Not needed at all, just force of habit I guess - it's in case of single or double engine failure (random failures or flameouts aren't even modelled in the game ☹) during approach in IMC. Also I was doing some engine failure + missed approach videos after recording this one, so it was in anticipation of maybe doing that as well but didn't have time for it in the end.
