Userwish 8 - a ringspanner - first the simple version, I will do this in the other 5 programs as well. Then a more complex version. I will try to do the complex one also in the other programs. But it may not be possible in all of them. I know there is a "small" edge on the left side - because of the two sweeps meeting there. But it is just done "quick and dirty".

Great video, but for some reason i don't have the geometrical sets you have in the Tree. Do you automatically add them through Insert? If so, why is that important?

+snotool Hi, in shape design you have to organize your features yourself in the tree. So it is easier to find errors and to change the model. You have to insert it yourself and give them a proper name.

Hey, that was an excellent tutorial. However, I find GSD still quite complicated. Maybe you could walk us through all of the Sweep possibilities for example and some other construction features in the GSD environment? Just an idea, you've done amazing job otherwise :)

I am getting an error at 18:53. The problem occurs when I add a sketch to the Guides section. The error is "A guide does not intersect one profile (or section)"

The error message tells you exactly what your problem is: one of the guide curves doesn´t intersect/touch one of the profiles/sections

Hello Mr. Walden, when doing the step on 17:21min the coincident line to the point of the symmetry surface recently created I just can't do it because when i get back to the sketch4 the symmetry surface recently created disappears. How can I make it stay there when i get back into sketch4? The next question I have, What does the extract function does (sound pretty silly due to the word meaning)? What are we extracting when we select the edges and Why? I really appreciate your time an effort,

+Orl Esp Extracting the edges - a new element is created and it is selectable in the tree. And you should not use the boundaries of a surface directly. Why your symmetry surface is disappering - I can´t tell without your catpart, sorry.

+Wolfgang Walden Thanks for the answer regarding the extracting the edges. It is disappearing because the sketch4 was created before the symmetry surface, so when i get back to sketch4, it shows is as if the symmetry hasn't been created yet. and i do not know how to edit the tree so i can move the sketch4 after the symmetry. for now, I just created a new sketch (after the symmetry). I appreciate your comments.

+Orl Esp Seems to me that you are using ordered geometrical sets. You should use geometrical sets.

heyy , I got the same problem too but I found out that you can reorder the features by right clicking on them right click on sketch4 > sketch4.object>reorder>aftersymmetry.4

In a geometrical set there is no historical order, just plain parent-child releations nothing else

I see when you are setting constraints, your constraint button is always active. Did you do that with a shortcut or is it a higher version of Catia then i have (Catia V5 r17)???

+Wolfgang Walden Also, since I have your attention, can you point me to some tips and tricks for Catia(like this one)? Things that are considered trivial but speed up the modeling process and also what to do and what not to do or how to approach modeling in Catia? I have been using Solidworks for most of my engineering life but now I see I have been using the wrong CAD package since Catia is so much more powerful then Solid. I'm really keen on learning as much as possible so anything you can tell me is much appreciated! Again, thank you very much dear sir!

Seems "only current body" is turned on - it is the symbol on the left side of the catalogue/book symbol.

Mr. Warden can you please do a few tutorials,where you explain various aspects and definitions of the terms used in sweep and daft command in CATIA GSD?? I like your tutorials,but I am unable to understand as to why you entered 90 degree as an angle or what is it meant by "limit curve" and tangency surface".When I use CATIA GSD I am confused by all these parameters,so everytime I start a new project in GSD and if I want to use these commands I have to use the iterative approach,where I experiment will all the commands and don't get desired results.It would be really helpful if you do a few vids on this.

Thanks for this great tutorial. Where could be possible to find video tutorials regarding rework from isolated solids and then extract surfaces + untrim and redesigning new concepts? I think this kind of tutorials should be nice also for designing tools . Example: Molding tools or Werkzeuge Kind Regards , Toni

I suppose, only the body/set which is in work is shown. There is a switch in the bottom toolbar to enable/disable - 3 rectangular boxes above one another - disabled / one rectangular box in orange colour - enabled.

Sorry, what do you mean by "loud xyz axes"? - Tools->options->infrastructure->part infrastructure->register display there is a slider for the size of the axis.

No in the beginning it is the GSD workbench, but it doesn´t really matter, you can switch between those two workbenches effortless.

Hi, you could copy the sketch - just select it, right-click - copy, switch to the new part, select the body and plane - right-click - paste and select the missing external references. You could also go for a powercopy.

Sir my components are same so I am thinking is it possible that I link a drafting drawing to another part which has nearly same dimensions and shape in catia. So that I do not have to do whole drafting again. If this could happen then I can save lot of time.
