The literal meaning in English has been expressed as "praise to the jewel in the lotus", or as a declarative aspiration, possibly meaning "I in the jewel-lotus". Padma is the Sanskrit for the Indian lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) and mani for "jewel", as in a type of spiritual "jewel" widely referred to in Buddhism. Om mani padme hum" is a six-syllable mantra in Tibetan Buddhism that translates to "Hail to the Jewel in the Lotus". Each syllable of the mantra has its own meaning and symbolism. The mantra is considered a powerful tool for spiritual awakening and self-transformation. It is often used for meditation and healing, and is inscribed on prayer wheels. However, In the Tibetan Buddhist community "Om mani Padme hum" is a mighty mantra used to protect, remove obstacles, and cleanse negative karma.

It's hoooom not hum. Hoom is hoomkara. We say mahakali ka hoomkara. Hoom generates fire in manipur chakra solar plexis chakra. That fire burns the negativity and negative karmas. 🙏

I have been chanting this particular mantra off and on most of my 57 years on earth. I can tell you that it helps if you know the meaning of the mantra, that way in a flash you can feel what it means in an instant. Their are tons of scriptures and commentary on this mantra. It's a interpersonal relationship that you develop with this mantra. I even imagine everyone on earth chanting together since it is a widely used.
