Scientists from USGS happened to be conducting helicopter operations while I was out at the Keanakako'i lookout in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to capture some lava fountain shots. Kilauea had just started a new eruption that morning, June 7th, 2023. #neweruption #volcanology #hawaiivolcanoes

Incredible catch and trek up there. Lava dippin skills! The blue helicopter color was great for the contrast too.

Wow, the incredible luck to capture all that. Perfect place at the perfect time. Apparently those USGS workers were recording their own video as well for a super close up shot 🍍🍍

Yeah it really was a score that I happened to be there shooting. Though I wasn’t quite ready for it, had to get what I could. I’ll have to check out the usgs footage.
