I am glad to see someone is brave enough to highlight this embarrassing/ terrible arrival exit access system in TIA Kathmandu- the design of the lift and escalator do not fit for its purpose. TIA Authority must act now to avoid such a embarrassment. Thank you for raising this issue.
Yes Usha sis, you steal my word of mouth, you are 100% right , Every time when I arrived in KTM international airport I faced the same problem like you did. some time people fighting for the lift space, This is absolutely bad design for international exit point , I am truly with you for expressing your feeling about it . shamed on Nepal's Government .
First of all , trolly cannot be used on the ESCALATOR" . An Elevator (lift) has been built to prevent such a danger . Now a slop road should be made. Everyone can easily exit without waiting for the Elavator ( lift) .

सास्ती त छ। बिदेशको दाजोमा हाम्रो नेपालको इयरपोर्ट अवतरण गर्दा देखि नै मन खिन्न हुन्छ। पहिलो त इमिग्रेशन , दोस्रो सामान निकाल्दा भिड र सामानको दुरुपयोग तेस्रो ट्रली नपाउने त्यहाँ पैसाको लागी त्यहीको स्टाफले नै ट्रली अकुपाइ गरि पैसा दिनेलाइ मात्रै ट्रली दिइन्छ। कुना काप्चामा फोहर झन वाशरूम त कुरै नगरौ। त्यस मध्य कमाएर ल्याएको सामान सहित सुन बढी ल्याको छकी भनि वेमतलको मान्छेलाइ नंग्याइ बेमतलब को सेक्युरिटी जाँच। तर जति नै भिड भय पनि प्यासेन्जरले सामान सहित स्केलेटर प्रयोग गर्नु हुदैन थियो। हामी सबलाइ हतार हुन्छ अलि Wait गरेर क्युमा बस्ने बानी छैन र बस्न पनि चाहदैनौ। यो सबै सिस्टम नभयर पनि हो हामी अनुसासित छैनौ पनि। देशको सिस्टम ले नै जनतालइ अनुसासित बनाउने हो।
Well, after seeing all of your comments that there's serious issues with design of the escalator (elevator) and bad trolley 🚎 which needs to be considered for solving the issue, for the third time Nepali government has made the international airport so due to such kind of issue we are losing our tourism which very important and also for the Nepalis travelers, so raised up issue must be considered by Nepali government people and solve ASAP, thanks everyone for sharing your opinion, hope this issue will be solved soon. We had same incident like these in same place. Escalator was going down but already too many passengers in other side of the floor. And unable to go back too. I had bruises on my both arm due to crushed between people. It was late flight and everyone going home . No one wanted to talk about it. They have to do investigation and implement in this issue.
It is not bad engineering, but it is bad trolly, if I remember these kind of escalator is available in big groceries stores where there are trollies which doesn't slip on those inclined escalators. Its an easy fix, change Tolley (specifics the load capacity for info to passager) which would resist slipping in inclined escalators. Thank you for posting this information, I and everyone traveling to Nepal would make aware of this. And also I feel sorry for those who had to go through this events. Please take care and be aware not to take trollies in those escalators unless the airport authority change them
I had the same issue there, too crowded in a elevator, luggage almost crushed me, and u will see to many people in a small elevator never experience anything like this anywhere
Elevator is not badly designed, TIA trolleys are not suitable for this elevator type. Normally right trolleys have automatic brakes on wheels and they have also hand brakes. But the hand brakes of 99% of trolleys in TIA are defect and they have normal wheels without integrated brakes. Lots of Nepalis don't know that trolleys have hand brake. Take care next time, one of the back wheels of almost all trolleys is rubbed out. Because lots of people just push it without releasing the hand brake and blocked wheel get damaged. That's why almost every trolley bumps and it's hard to control the direction. So first of all they have to either change the wheels or get suitable one. This is the result of not planning completely....it's petty but true.
Airport को Escalator प्रयोग गर्दा मलाई पनि निकै अप्ठ्यारो परेको थियो। लगेज सहितको trolley यस्तो खालको Escalator बाट लैजान एकदमै गाह्रो हुन्छ। जमिनको सतहसग बराबर अथवा एकदमै कम slope बनाएर मात्रै यसको प्रयोग गर्नु पर्छ।
Nepalese aviation sector is very poor and unsafe because of poor man power and lack of authentic aviation experts with proper knowledge and specialization in Aviation Science and Research. CAAN and Aviation Ministry are lack of such authentic aviation experts. I really agree with her frustrations, since long time aviation safety has been neglected and mismanaged because of corrupt practices in sensitive and dynamic aviation sector.

Although the desing of escelator is not very good but also not that bad. It's the trolley's fault. When the handle is not depressed, the trolly ought to hold the brake without any effort. But sadly, the TIA's whole fleet of trolleys is in terrible condition. The last time I attempted choosing one with a smooth wheel, I tried 7 or 8 different trolley before I gave up. There are even adverts in the trolley, but still no care is taken for maintenance or replacement.

Why did the Tribhuvan airport not design the luggage belts on the ground floor as all other airports. Normally , the airports in the world have luggage, receiving belts on the ground, not anywhere else.

Yeah, this is our Nepal. Last time, I just let my trolley go from the top of the sliding elevator, then it banged and broke the glass of the elevator. They didn't say anything to me. Security just be there and cover the broken glass area with big plastic cover and thats it.
I think authority should rethink about this, Instead of collecting the baggage upstairs, authority should reallocate the baggage claiming sections downstairs and rearrange their plans. This might avoid some accidents and people could be able to carry only with handbags in this sliding walkway.
No this is not for troly i know the left is bg but still troly must go by lift not from skletar its only for one light bag and human but only need big lift
I see in the background that the arrival is developed and maintained by “The GREAT IMS group” Doesn’t it seem like there is huge “Business Lobbying” going on here? Looks like IMS has very good influence over the the government in getting tenders. Not to forget, the attempt made by govt in banning Mobile phones purchased from abroad. It’s ridiculous that we don’t have the liberty to decide where to buy our gadgets from! If we put our thinking hats on, IMS is the authorised distributor of Samsung. Now, who would benefit the most when such policy is implemented? Food for Thought!

That type of staff,who was rising his Index-finger with his loud volume of tone, while having convesation with his minister in TIA, should be sacked as an example and it is very urget to Train Rest of all Airport staffers with basic jobs and responsibility in all Nepali Airports, specially in TIA.Thanks.
They made the inclination escalator but they did not change the trolly which should have magnetic trolley... in other countries even a small shopping store has...
You’re right but the shopping stores trolley are in the shape of a basket that can withhold all the stuffs from falling out even if it’s inclined downwards. The airport trolleys are designed differently without anything to stop the luggages from falling out. So I guess the magnet won’t be enough
Those escalators aren't designed for trolleys to be precise. Yes, of course, our government is a corrupt one but you don't have to be an engineer to figure out what those simple machines are made for. I just arrived at kuala lumpur airport from tribhuwan international airport . And I am watching this video from here right now. Yes I support her. I used the toilet . Omg so disgusting and shameful. Toilet's floor was wet..no..no ..it wasn't wet.It was over flowing .

Obviously that is very risky 😢 when I come back nepal I experienced that arrival everyone shock within logging 😢 and children wanted plz made another if u alone is well but with logging can’t arrived plz make good well ❤😢
Its not bad design, but usability flaw. People should not be allowed to ride the ramp, only their luggage should be allowed to enter the ramp. The passengers should rather walk down the stairs to take their luggage.
I dont know why this is happend only in Nepal¿¿. As an travell i used to take this kind of Lift .. i dont know what to say.. it should be manageable while all passenger walking on that lift

The problem will never be solve. I have no faith in those corrupt people. Nepal Rely huge on tourists. Without tourists Nepal economy will go down. Yet no one dare to solve this problem. It’s so stupid to have escalator. Why can’t they have lots of elevator? Shame on everyone who are behind this hideous idea.
