Her and Chilli are the same age. So I do think looks (and even subconsciously colorism in some cases) played a part in how people reacted to them being together.

I’m not sure a lot of people realizes that chilli is older than usher. I’ve literally seen some comments the other day where people were surprised that Chilli was older because she looked about his age.

​it WAS about Tameka age, the fact that she had kids that she left behind to b with Usher AND people wanted Usher with Chili bc they believed Confessions was about Tameka being the side that ended the relationship with Chili. It was never about her dark beautiful skin most people considered Chili to b Chocolate beautiful woman. And compared to Chili, Chili LOOKED closer in age than Tameka did to Usher. Plus Usher mom was not feeling Tameka. It was never about her complexion, Usher and everyone who thinks that is reaching. And honestly after Tameka his women seem to have gotten older looking than even Tameka.

Colorism played a part though...as it often does. But of course, she was judged for being older than him. Colorism isn't even always a conscious thing.

@@Yespls888 she was definitely judged for being older. All I ever heard was her age in the media, what did he see in her and he downgraded from Chili. This is what I remember seeing all the time. I respect what you shared on colorism. No one never brought up colorism from what I remember because to them her age was the biggest issue. I feel bad she experienced colorism. No one deserve that.

No they are both born in the same year. Tameka was born in January and Chilli was born in February

@@briaunabenson6056 I think what it is, is that Tameka looks mature for her age and Chilli has a younger look/essence to her. I think that’s why she aged so gracefully. I honestly would think she was Usher’s age when they dated.

Tameka was born 1/1/71 and Chili was born 2/27/71...

And whether people want to admit it or not, a good deal of the Hollywood standard is based on eurocentric ideals of beauty...including colorism. Even when it isn't a conscious thought I agree that someone like Naomi would have been more accepted. But to me, it's still correlated to colorism because dark skin women have to often look like or literally BE models (who share certain phenotypes regardless of their complexion) to be deemed as beautiful. I've never even dealt with colorism personally BUT I'm not going to sit up here and act like colorism and eurocentric beauty standards don't play a part in how people are treated. People don't typically go around saying, "oh we don't like her because she's a darkie and doesn't fit the beauty standard" 😂 Colorism is often UNSPOKEN, because it often isn't even a conscious bias. And while she looked older than Chilli, her and Chilli are the SAME age...so clearly it wasn't just "age". You don't have to agree with it.

Chilli is brown but she is still mixed. Tameka is darker. I guarantee you, regardless of fame, Chilli and Tameka haven't had the same experience as far as colorism is concerned.

Darker skin women have to literally look like models, to be as accepted as an average looking woman that's lighter And I say this as a black woman that's lighter! People claiming colorism didn't play a part at all, are being obtuse. Colorism, much like racism, isn't always conscious...but it tends to play a part in how people are treated, especially back then. Chilli was also older than Usher, but phonetically she has more "prized" features, hair texture and is not as dark as Tameka.
