I remember watching this when it actually aired, I was left in such awe by Mya’s performance that I’m still watching it in 2019. Very good performance. I think MTV only did like two of these ICON shows, but really should’ve done more. The other one was Aerosmith, and if you thought this performance was memorable; you should check out Train’s performance of Dream On from their ICON show.
Mya slayed this with ease. Her movement was fluid and not to mention she was BY HERSELF and entertained the entire way through. POWERHOUSE. GO OFF NIECEEEEEE
sanggurl16 yea the handkerchief trick is not easy as you think takes timing and keeping it in your hand. Yea pink deserves kudos for perfromance but mya & usher are natural born dancers.
i really feel like i cant make my dreams come true bc if i perform like that (or just really really good) people will bring up my race (white) or say stuff like "thats a one in a million. other white girls are untalented" and stuff:(
@@jaliyahrosee Most white singers don't dance r&b/hip hop styles and if they do, they don't dance all that well. There also aren't many who sing r&b and soul, because it's primarily dominated by black singers. Also, Pink is in her own category and will always be badass because she can cross over various genres of music and do it with ease even though she started in R&B. How you take it is up to you.
Myas performance never fails to amaze me. When I first saw this I was like "holy shit" when mya came in. Everything was smooth, precise, and effortless. It's like she had the spirit of Janet Jackson inside of her. She's severely underrated.
Exactly. This genre of dance oriented entertainers no longer exists, unfortunately 😢. You don't really see choreographed dance productions like this anymore.
@@handsomeX Yup, It's a Beyoncé level of show and production or Usher, Bruno Mars when it comes to men. But It's pretty much obsolete. In this new generation you have maybe Doja Cat but that's it. It might come back in a few years from now tho. Who knows
Dana W I agree, I wonder what she is up to lately, last I heard she was on Dancing with the Stars, I wish she will return back to main steam music, she had some very good songs in the late 90's to early 2000's
brownsbaker lets not forget that Mya is first and foremost a trained proffessional choreographer, among the best the industry ever had, thats her thing singing comes after
I remember watching this on t.v. That was when these female artists really had something to bring to the table, not just looks and voice but the dance! YES!
Exaaactly! She didnt do any on the same moves that Janet did but she stayed in the same element and gave it the same type of flavor. She made it her own while still resepecting the original.
Still the best in my book...Mya trained dancer did it with ease...Alecia (Pink) a dancer too....and Usher deeply embedded in the Jackson culture....a winning combination...*e
I actually recorded this but I’m so glad it’s on YT.. out of all the Janet tributes that have been done over the years nothing has beat this one for me, they (Mya especially) KILLED this!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jacob Flores I literally just said that. Tinashae and Jason messed that shit up Ciara should have did by her self. Mya was on point with the dancing while T added some twerking in there that did not match with janet style
WOW. 15 years ago this happened and it's still relevant AF compared to anything out there today. Pink and Maya tore that shit UP and made Janet proud!! Legendary Janet!!! :-))
Maybe BET shouldve called MYA to perform "Pleasure P" on the Janet tribute this year because that Tinashe danced as if she never once seen the video. Lol.. Mya executed these moves to the T!
That Mya is a fabulous dancer! I hadn't realized until I saw her in Chicago last October. She bust out all these great dance moves, she's really talented. Here she does a great job with that dance solo
@utillisateurs Normani is probably the only person in the industry that can come close to Mya. Give Ciara tap, jazz or ballet and she's gonna struggle. She's a self taught street dancer
