Hanna is going through our shelter’s Fraidy Cat protocol. She was an owner surrender who was having so much trouble adjusting to the sounds and sights of the shelter that she would not eat consistently. No dry food or wet, no treats, no chicken ... Finally, she was medicated to increase interest in her meals. It turns out she is more interested in affection than treats!
Now off her medication, Hanna is doing very well in her training and ready to try having regular free-roam time outside her kennel. The sounds of the shelter make her want to run and hide during her first session out. For her second session, we practice an exercise inspired by Leslie McDevitt’s 1-2-3 pattern game, which seems to help her tolerate the scary noises much better.
