Using a 5v solenoid to ring a bell 

With the help of a motor driver board, MicroBlocks can control solenoids such as this $5 mini push-pull solenoid (www.adafruit.com/product/2776). That can be used to strike a bell other other small percussion instrument.
Note that solenoids require a lot of current, so you need to use either a MOSFET transistor or a motor controller to drive them. I used an Elecfreaks Wukong board for this video. That board drives the mini solenoid nicely but it failed to drive Adafruit's somewhat larger "medium 5v/6v solenoid".
