Never going back to coffee machines. This is cleaner and makes fresher tasting coffee. If you’re not sure how to use it I will show you how easy it is.
I just bought one of these at a thrift store yesterday and had NO idea how to properly use it! Thank you so much for your video! It is on the stove for the first time as we speak! Can't wait to try the results. 😋
Mine turned out pretty good for 1st time and NOT having the percolator grind coffee?? BUT I have to set a timer to keep track... (15min) so I don't end up burning it I guess.👍
Hi! I am from Perú! I have the Coffee maker more than 25 years!! And I bougth in a thrift store...until now I only used for hot water! Thanks God something to make me check it the RU-vid! I always say: every day something to learn. Thanks for the video, tomorrow I will surprise my family in Fathers Day. Saludos y gracias
Thank you for this video! As many have said, I picked one up at a church flea market. It’s in like new condition! I had been wanting one for years after I tasted coffee made this way. Once made, I put the coffee in a thermos to keep it hot all day. 👍
Follow these instructions to get the worst cup of coffee you’ve ever had. 15 minutes on medi/high will get you a cup of burned, boiled coffee. 9 cups uses 9 tablespoons in the basket. Put percolator on stove on highest heat. Observe carefully. As soon as it starts to perk turn it down to low or medium low. Lowest temp to maintain perking. Set a timer to 8-10 minutes. Turn off. Let basket drain for a minute or two. The person who made this video actually never made coffee in a Corningware coffee pot.
Totally agree about the temperatures and removing the grounds basket! Will cut the maker of the video this , starting with cold fresh water the overall time is close to 15 minutes but as this poster remarks you must adjust the heat after the perking starts.😊 First learned to make coffee with one of these in 6th grade , been using one for 60 years. 🎉
I like my Pyrex 6 cup 'cause I can see the coffee perking & watch it drip through the basket and into the water . Then I set my timer for 7:30, turn down the heat, & watch it do its thing... I can't see it happen with the Corning; But it's pretty much the same thing to follow, Right? - (Help !)
TY- I’m cleaning out my 92 yr old mother’s home and found this . she has so much corning where I had no clue how to use it. I put the coffee in the basket and boiled water in a pot separately on the stove and then poured it over the basket! 😅
I have a 9 cup corningware coffee maker that I use to make iced tea. I just put 8 tea bags in the basket and water up to the bottom of the basket and boil it. I do boil it for 10 mins though. I add a cup (6 oz) of sugar while it's hot. I take the basket out and add ice to top it off. It gets cool enough to pour it when the ice is melted.
I have my moms vintage pot and wanting to use it. Seem to remember she had something she put on her burner. I have a smooth top range. Could you tell me what I need.
@@pennyp4187 Type in "heat defuser for coffee pot's, any of them will wk....when using, don't use on high heat....I love mine and use it now and then, only because of the memories ..
Thank you. This was so helpful. I grew up using one of these as a kid but somewhere along the line it went missing. I’ve ordered one on eBay and am excited to be welcoming it back! There always used to be one in 60s sitcoms like the Mary Tyler Moore show.
I have one of these that my late bff left me after she passed and I LOVE IT!! Don’t use coffee machine! This is what I’ve been making my coffee for in YEARS ANS ONG SO RICH A ND. DELICIOUS!!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I had bought one of these recently. I thought it might come in handy one day. Low and behold my darn coffee carafe to my electric coffee maker is busted today, so today's the day to use it! I can't wait!
My 82yo mom and I went to a thrift shop and I saw one of these. I told her that I remembered her using the same exact thing when she had company. She told me that I could have hers; it's in pristine condition and I can't wait to hear it perk again!
@@Bobbythefanman Hi! A couple days ago I scored a Pyrex Glass percolator in Goodwill for $3. Only thing missing is the glass pump stem. I'm sure if I scrounge around long enough I can find the replacement stem.
@@Bobbythefanman In an amazing stroke of luck, right after I commented to you about my Pyrex percolator, I found another one with the stem intact just missing the lid, so now I can have the complete unit.
Don’t want to be a Debbi downer but please be aware there was a recall on some of these Corning ware percolator years ago.Handles would separate from the pot
We bought a 6 cup just like yours. As soon as it arrived we washed it then perked our first pot. We used our local HEB brand classic roast and it tastes better than from our Mr. Coffee $19 machine from Target.
I've been using a Corning Ware Black Starburst 6 cup percolator just purchased this year and shelved my French press. I use the same ratio coffee and not as bitter taste as the press. No coffee machine, drip/pod junk can compare to this taste.
My mom had two of those corning ware coffee makers just like that except hers had an electric percolator, brings back memories, she took the coffee sieve out and used the pot just to heat up water, as my parents found it was simpler to just make instant coffee, they loved the original taster’s choice instant coffee.
My aunt had one of these. W had a drip machine that we pour the hot water over the grounds. I was too young to like/drink coffee but I made it for my parents. It was only a few years later, that I started drinking it. I was probably 12 or 13.
Thank you so much for this video! I absolutely love my morning coffee but not from a Keurig! My Grandma gave me this product, but I wasn't sure how to use it. May I ask, you said this portion is 9 cups of coffee. I am the only one in my household that really drinks coffee. To help with waste, instead of using 9 cups of water, am I able to just put in 2 cups of water for smaller amounts of coffee brewed? --Thanks!
Mine has markings on the inside that starts at 6 cups. I tried to make coffee under the 6 cup marking and it would not perculate. I say try 2 cups and see what happens. Maybe just experiment with only water.
Thanks for video I have one with the screw clamp + epoxy glue and kept getting conflicting information as to whether it would be safe to use.I have the exact same one in your video and according to some that’s one of the recalled ones.I do support bottom with oven mitt when I pour so I feel it’s ok to keep using
I have had mine for at least 4 years and bought it from a thrift store. We use just about everyday and it has never had a problem. I guess i got lucky and got one out of a good batch.
I bought mine 2 years ago for 6.00. We really like the taste of our coffe. Nothing beats it. Wondering, I just bought a 10 cup P149 stove top percolator and the basket filter has a spring on the bottom of basket. I think I just figured out with the notches being on the lid, that is the basket lid being different from the blue corning stove top basket with lid. Anyone familiar with this one? It's the one with 2 bluebirds on it
I got given one of these years ago , and I never used it, as I had a one cup Bialetti, and I was the only coffee oficianado in the house 😏 But I just used it first time today , hence why im here 😁. Amd i can honestly say it seems to mellow the coffee more. The Bialetti is a sealed two chamber and gives a single pressure forced percolation , which results in more "bite". This isn't sealed between chambers , so it percolates round . Im keen to know if percolation time changes taste or strength of coffee? And thanks for uploading this ...I really had no time parameters in which to allow it to percolate for. 🤗
Thankyou so much for watching my video , and I am so glad it helped. As far as changing the taste, in my opinion the longer its left to perculate the more of a "burnt" flavor it gets. At least that is how it tastes to me. I prefer to get it off the burner after almost a minute of it perculating and the color change is in the water.
Booboo Snafu, The longer the coffee perks, the stronger it will be. I have been using a Pyrex flameware percolator for 20 years and have found the best coffee never boils. Boiling it scortches the coffee giving it a burned taste. Once the perking starts, turn the heat as low as you can with the action still going. You'll be surprised how low you can go. Never let it boil. That's easy to see for me in a glass pot. I start timing it when the water starts changing color. Everything I've read says to perk 1 min/cup but that's all up to your taste. Also, if steam is pouring out of the spout, its probably too hot. Optimally you want it just under boilng. It takes practice to find the sweet spot with your pot, stove and perk time but once you find it, the BEST coffee is yours, as I'm sure you know!
Thank you for this video. I've been wanting to get one and you just help sell it. I'm sick of coffee pods, they don't taste good. I'm not that crazy about the drip coffee makers either.
What’s a good ratio? When I do a pour over I use two tbsp coffee per one cup water. I’m the only coffee drinker in the house. I have a 4 cup stovetop Corningware.
Hola buenos días, estoy pendiente de comprar una igual, pero le falta la tapa de los agujeros ... es realmente necesario tenerla? O se mezclaría el café molido con el líquido de café??? Muchísimas gracias 😊
I accidentally threw out my basket lid and use small paper filters. I fold it up 4x and cut small slits around it and a small hole in the center. Then I dampen the filter and push it down to the coffee grounds and make sure it adheres to the side if the basket. That's my new lid and it works fine. A few grounds but not too many, nothing a handheld strainder won't fix. 😊
The pot holds about 9 cups. As for how much coffee in the basket, that depends on how strong you want it. In the vid the person used 8 scoops of Maxwell House (for 9 cups).
what if it is without the metal ring at the top (that goes in last, the strainer looking thing) Do you think it will still work? I bet I can make one...
do we really need the little round mmm filter thing?the one that goes on top of that other coffee basket....just bought one but I just noticed mine doesnt have one😢thank you in advance😊
I have one but I wonder if the inside parts are aluminum whic I understand that aluminum is not good for your body. Is it aluminum or steel. I would like to use it again but I just don;t know whether to or not.
So, I tried to google what metal is used for the basket and it appears to be stainless steel. I believe it because aluminum bends and dents easily and usually scratches and gets a dullness to it. Loses its shine. I also looked up replacement parts on amazon and in the description it says stainless steel.
