fr, considering you have to use the phone to keep in touch with friends/family, to check work/school related stuff and for directions and stuff like that I think 3 hours is actually a kinda healthy amount of time lol
$300 for a phone, mobile hotspot, music player, gps, email, etc, is not a bad deal. It’s not a 2005 flip phone, it’s just not a “smart phone”. It’s a normal phone with some additional quality of life.
@se7ense7ens37 Well thr same can be said for whatsapp too. And chrome is needed as well. We can forget youtube,I'm a student so I need that app. Hence, even if I don't want to,I will have to keep using it..
I feel Android and IPhone just need to have a mode or model where you only have the basics and can’t install apps. Useful Things that dont suck time like flashlight or dual SIM can still be there. Maybe people can order their own customised versions on the internet. I’d buy that in a heartbeat

Bro, just use a minimalist launcher and only keep non-addictive apps in the launcher. A good set up that I have used would be time, date, phone, texts, browser, mail, music, navigation, notepad, and camera. Each label just opens their respective apps. There are no logos, just words for each app. Use a non-distracting wallpaper for the home screen and lock screen. If it does not suffice inhibiting the addiction, then uninstall whatever your addicting app is. For me, doing this is sufficient. I leave the addicting apps installed and just open it extremely rarely with time limits put on each addicting app. The best part is that it requires no money to be spent.
Ooo I can’t wait to see your feelings and mental state after a month. Can you log your moods and thoughts on paper or something every day ? I have a theory about anxiety. Would love to see your rating daily on a scale of 1-10 on experience of anxiety either from being disconnected or something else. Also I have a theory about your mental clarity and energy levels being better day by day. The anxiety chart may trend up the first few days and trend down the longer you go and maybe spike up a bit at the end when your itching to get off the dumb phone. I’d loveeeeeee to see that data
As someone who used dumb phones exclusively for 6 months, your theory sounds very accurate to my experience. I didn't understand just how tethered to my smartphone I was until I got nervous walking to the shop halfway down the street with a flip phone in my pocket. Huge wake-up call for me. After a few weeks I grew to love how long and boring my days were. Though I no longer use a traditional T9 dumb phone, I use a Jelly Star now which gives me the conveniences of a smartphone (like banking, QR, government digital documents) without the massive all consuming screen to go with it. The lessons learned from that time have been invaluable to me, and one day I hope to go back 😊
I held out in mad protest to owning a smart phone until 2022!! I did the same thing in the 70s refusing to learn to play spades, when my friends all played year round. I finally snapped with in both cases, and now you couldn't pry my cell out of my dead fingers.
I feel Android has more options for creating a minimalist phone than iphones because launchers can be downloaded so easily. You should have bought a cheap Android phone from a reputable brand and just used a minimalist launcher. If you were the least bit tech savvy, I would say get an old Pixel phone, slap Graphene OS on it, and add a minimalist launcher to it.
I think everyone could benefit from trying something like this! What type of phone is the one with basic stuff like calculator alarm GPS and podcast? I’d like to see in the follow up not only how the month goes but a month later if you are back to normal phone use or if your phone habits have changed
Is there a dumb Phone with a notes app that can transfer notes from the phone to a pc via a USB plug? Also can the phone be purchased without buying a plan? I'm looking for a pocket sized device just for notes that is completely self reliant and doesn't need internet or an e-mail. Something strictly for taking notes. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
