Great question and yes. You can use the Alfalfa pellets without the yucca. I have the yucca plants on my property so that's a blessing . Thanks for your input.
I just started using the Alfalfa pellets and I am really amazed at how well my seedlings are responding to it. A little goes a long way. You don't need a lot.
Hey Nikki. Thanks for all the support you give. I really do appreciate it. I have a little more to do to my Garden house and I'm going to try the live thing as a reveal. I might need a few of ya'll vets to help me pull it off. I have a new follow focus camera I'm learning but I think it would be too cool if I can get it to work in a live. It was so much easier being behind the scene. LOL
Many many thanks my brother. Know that it's going to be an interesting grow season. A lot of what I experimented with last year I feel comfortable enough to do the videos on this year. A lot of the videos will be the end results of last year and the start of this year because I was just learning to record myself last year and I try to show start to end for those who will say these things don't work. The Alfalfa and Yucca.... I can only shrug my shoulders.... lol....
Thank you so much for watching. I was going to put up my Georgia White Clay video but I saw yours so I will post it later as the heat starts up. It's very effective against heat stress. 🙂
Thanks for watching Farmer Lashus. lol. Tractor Supply has the Alfalfa pellets. Far cheaper than all the other fertilizers. I just ordered me some seeds also.
I do grow Alfalfa and use it as liquid compost tea. Never heard of the pine nuggets. An excellent video your starts look beautiful and healthy looking. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Sue. Now I know who's brain to pluck for growing the Alfalfa. I just ordered seeds because I am so impressed with the results that I want to grow my own. That's $24 less that I'll have to spend on this wonderful soil amendment. A lot of the bags at big box that say soil amendment is just fine bark. I want to cut down on my perlite use and this seemed a great alternative. I also use the nuggets as 25% of my blueberry growing medium.
@@growingouttheboxThanks for your great information. I really just grow it and put it in rain water and let break down and dilute it and water my plants. You have it going and growing on Brother 👍🏽
Its good for the cool season grass Kentucky Bluegrass. There isnt much time in the late summer/fall for those rhysomes to establish, and this nitrogen/tricontinol organic approach to lawns is great. Especially if you core aerate and get it into the soil w some biochar and compost. Many different ideas we can all share and use. 🇨🇦👊🏻👨🏻🏭⚡💖
Thank you very kindly. I like to purchase organic fertilizers and amendments so I can compare results with some of the not so traditional organic ways of growing and I am really encouraged by what I am seeing with the alfalfa pellets.
Not on subject, but I wanted to tell you that my sweet peas yielded just over 10#. Just to hot now, already in the 90s. They are First 13, and I got from Burpee. I will be planting in the fall/winter and winter/spring garden. God bless and wishing you a great garden year.
@Growing Out The Box As long as you have cooler nights, they should be fine. As soon as my nights warmed up, they quit. At least they didn't tease me. And I'll start my Red Ripper cowpeas tomorrow or the next. And my black beans. Already got okra and pink eyes up. Harvested my first Green Eggs summer squash, a couple peppers, and the last of my lettuce yesterday. Delicious. Should harvest my first tomatoes in about 2-3 weeks. Let the canning begin!!
@@sonnyamoran7383 I'm planting my black beans in the ground this year. I think I'm going to do as you did with maybe 200 plants of at least 4 different beans. I have to get my fence up because of the deer.
@Growing Out The Box I'm planting my okra between 2 rows of purple hull this year. Okra produces till first frost. When peas are done, I'll cut off at ground level and plant zippers or black eyes. The peas can be closer, so should get good crops and not bother okra. As early as it is, I'm hoping for 3 rounds of peas. Cowpeas do so good in the heat.
Thank you and yes, less than 7 days old. I keep my grow lights about 2 inches away so all the energy is in roots which makes them bulky rather than leggy.
Hi Growing out the box thank you for this recipe, great information. I have all the ingredients except the alfalfa and yucca extract I will purchase the alfalfa and try to find some yucca.
@@growingoutthebox ok great thank you. If I find someone who is willing to donate a small piece to or if I find one to purchase from a nursery I will be happy to grow it. Is it the same yucca plant we can harvest food from?
I have been trenching small amounts around my seedlings as I move them to the garden. "Just small amounts".... I'll just say, "click the notification bell" lol
Outstanding video! As a fellow gardener it is clear you have some soil science in your blood. The beauty and organization of your garden is impressive. I am happy to have come across your garden videos. I look forward to following your channel. You have a new subscriber.
I am privileged to have you here and I thank you for the kind words. I’m going to be posting a few diy garden videos over the next few weeks so please click the notification 🔔
Whats going on King!!! Ive recently retired from the Army and im in the process of beginning the journey of gardening for self sufficiency and spiritual development. Your videos have been a Godsend!!! I would love to see your process of creating and maintaining your compost. Blessings my Bro!!!
Right on time because I get a lot of request for that. Fall is here so it's time to start collecting all the leaves you can. Grass clipping and leaves is 99% of what it is.
I grabbed a rolling composter from the curb a few years ago. The frame broke, leaving me with just a barrel. Now, I mix my soil in that barrel by putting in all the ingredients and rolling it around the yard! Of course, if you have a rolling composter you’re not using, it’d be even easier to mix your soil.
Bro Im just know seeing this video, i have just started doing this Organic Gardening. I am finishing up my first batch of LAB and i am going to funnel 3 Fermented Plant Juices in a couple days, I did one with carrot leafs, one with sunflower, and one with unripened pear fruit and purple cone flower. Also i just went to the tractor supply store and bought a 50 pound bale or Alfalfa hay for $20! Im also super obsessed with Wetting agents and Saponins. Your content is dope.
Hi Brenda here great suggestion about the mini pine bark and Alfalfa pellets I currently use the pine straw with leaves as a mulch. I have to try the mini pine bark. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you clicked the notification bell 🛎️. I try to find interesting things to do in the garden that are organic. Hopefully you’ll find something here that is useful to you and your garden.
LOL.... Triacontanol. Look it up. A little goes a long way! And yes, that was 5 or 6 days since sprouting. Most had 1 true leaf and another starting. Most all of them have 3 or 4 true leave 2 days after transplanting. Even after splitting them at the roots where I had 2 seeds per tray caused no transplant shock. The Yucca has a lot to do with it also. Yucca in my soilless mix has carbohydrates and trace minerals.
@@quansmanagement5610 For the past few months you should not had a lot of growth. Now that Spring is here it's time to fertilize and another around September. Nothing after that. The next time you cut the grass, get you a 5 gallon bucket and fill halfway with weeds and grass clippings. Fill water 3 quarters to the top and cover for 7 days mixing on occasion. You can make fish fertilizer the same way. I'm going fishing next week and will post a video on how to make fish fertilizer. Meantime, go purchase Alaska fish fertilizer and Alaska Morbloom. "Follow directions to the letter" Apply the fish fertilizer and morbloom every 7 to 10 days and what what happens!
I don't make videos because im shy , im a 63 year old redneck from NC . Cut my teeth growing something worth bank in the day. Now I grow groceries,,, i eat and sleep better. And ive got a farm . Thank u Jesus
Awesomeness. Great tip and information. I use the black kow but have never used alfalfa pellets. Your seedlings behind you look amazing. Now do you use that mix to start your seedlings or to grow them once they germinate.
To grow when I transplant. You can mix the alfalfa into your soil. I like to put a little of the mix in the bottom of the hole when I plant them into the garden also. Give those those roots a reason to dive deep. Helps with heat stress.
@@mygrannysgarden Not a problem. There are literally millions of gardening channels on RU-vid. You took the time to stop by, watch and comment…. It’s a must that I reply in real time. Thank you.
Heeeeeey Ms. Tasha that don't age. lol. You need to stop playing and sell me some of that fountain water. 😁 Yeah, the organic alfalfa pellets has been my all purpose fertilizer this year. I will be growing a patch for myself next year to see if it makes since. I solarized another one of my beds this year so I have my compost tea brewing so that those microbes can get to work braking all that goodness down and building that soil life back. I'm here for you Bouje'.... If I don't have the answer I will find it. Ask yourself have I ever not replied to any of your comments.... On FB, IG, TIkTok and YT. I answer every single comment. If I don't know the answer I research it. That is what's making me a better gardener and tells me the content to put out. What's missing from our fast pace lives is someone that pays attention to our personal needs. People just want to know that you are listening. I could have simply replied back, "Thank you" it would have been so much easier. I'm sharing with you why the channel is moving. "Service to others"🙏🏽
@@growingoutthebox I will hit the notification bell also. I use Black Kow and alfalfa in my garden as well as the compost with chicken manure. I had not thought to use the mini pine bark until how :). I have used the large pine bark as weed control in my pathways but it floats downhill with the rain...ha! Have a great day. It is raining here today. :)
@@bevsurbangarden Thanks for taking the time out of your day to give a new content creator a chance. This mix along with the cotton seed meal made a world of difference. The blueberries really do need that special attention.
@@growingoutthebox You are welcome! I remember the "old timers" used cottonseed meal in the garden all the time. I need to get some for my berries also. Good reminder! Have a blessed day. Raining here :).
I have watched 100 gardeners and you are amazing. I am in a beach town with Clay soil so I do raised beds on a budget. Can I make these containers of soil over time during the winter to have them ready for spring? Should I have airholes while it sits?
You should always have roots in the soil. I would just toss some beans in and let them run their course and you have so food. Cut the plants at soil level leaving the roots in the ground. Mow over the tops and cover back into the bed for fall adding something like little marvel peas. Do the same and you are ready for spring planting....
Do you have the results with this mix? I would be scared to mix that much pine bark into the mix as I’ve always been taught that the word would use nutrients, especially nitrogen, so that the plants wouldn’t have enough. Maybe you’re adding enough yucca and alfalfa pellets to compensate for this?
Man!! I Love what your doing!! Great job on explaining everything. One question, I don't have garden soil really because most of my yard is sand so what would be a good alternative for garden soil for me to use in my mix?
I tried to make my own compost last year and everywhere I used it this year it has lots of grass growing out of it. My compost was Grass clippings, saw dust, wood chips, coffee grounds. Some veggies left over and leaves. Not sure what happened unless I didn't get it hot enough.
Question….what if you’re not into gardening yet and at the very very beginning stages? What would you use for garden soil? My dirt in my yard is far from good lol but I would love to start gardening and being more self sufficient.
I would solarize the area you want to start growing to get rid of any weeds or insects. Check out my short on how to solarize. It's very simple. It's what I do when I start a new bed. Then mix in compost into the top 6 inches. Let sit for 2 weeks and start planting. Once planted mulch very heavy. I hope that helps.
@@growingoutthebox yes, thank you!!!! I’m in your neighboring state Florida and unfortunately I have that good old sand dirt in my yard lol so this will help a bunch, thank you!
Is that black bucket a 5 gallon or a 7 gallon grow bucket? I don't have garden soil. All I have is raise bed mix organic? Should.my landscaper go dig a hole out of my yard?
Is there a substitute for the pine bark? I have had a issue with termites in the garden, & dont want to attract them. Will be getting rid of my wood frames for this reason.
My yucca won't go away! lol... It grows year round but a castile soap can be used sparingly. Too much could affect the soil biology because they are both antimicrobial. I haven't tested it under a microscope but now that you ask that is something I would like to be sure of. Thanks for that question.
I have been having issues with deer this year and a company sent me a product to try out. Seems to be working so I am recording a months worth of footage seeing how the deer react to it. I can see 4 or 5 deer a night on my cameras and when they go towards the sensors they turn and move off pretty fast.
@@growingoutthebox how much do I have to pay for one of the systems you. I will have have someone or carpenter to put it up for me. I don't want those people messing in my yard where I plan to have a garden. I want my garden to be pretty like yours. Please send Info. I assume it works for dogs and other animals as well. Thanks. @@honeybee6674 Hey Annie. How big is your garden? They are sensors and all you need to do is stick them in the soil in the direction the deer come into your garden.I'm going to post the video next week and there will be a link in the pinned comment to purchase if it is something you are interested in.
@@growingoutthebox ok. But my garden is not started yet and I am glad because of those dogs. I can hear them barking back over yarnder. I am having tree and clean up services come in and cut branches and clean up $4000.00. Then I can have a carpenter or someone come and till and me plan how to set up. I am only one person and it takes time. I also have other projects going. Thanks p.s. I would to ask the company if it will get rid of dogs, raccoons as well.
@@honeybee6674 Morning Annie. Yes, it has dogs, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits and a few more that it repels. I'll be posting the video so it will give you a chance to see how effective they are with deer. they attempt to come into the garden every night and since setting the sensors up in a series along the high traffic area of the garden they seem to be effective.
