The concept and goals of this series "Using bluegrass standards to grow" is terrific. What a great way to learn how to get around the mandolin fretboard as a system, rather than learning the notes to a song/solo/tune.

Thank you pal. Wanted to get this one made a lot sooner but it never seems to fall into place the way I think it's gonna. You have that problem?

This type of lesson is what turns my light bulb on and helps me progress past the plateau I’ve been stuck in for years. Thanks Wayne for the nudge!

Another great lesson. Playing out of the chop chord is so important to get that bluegrass sound. Nice to see a lesson that takes place above the 5th fret! It’s a “closed” position so it can be moved up and down the fret board to be used in different keys . This is an important building block that can open all kinds of doors in terms of creating your own style.

Thx for the comment Jack. You're right, movable shapes on the fretboard help us take advantage of the entire range of sounds the mandolin has to offer...

Mighty fine advice. Doesn’t get any better than that to get the bluegrass sound. Big Mon would be well pleased. Keep on keeping on, thanks Wayne!

Thank you!!! I’ve been hoping to find someone on RU-vid that would break this one down, and this is exactly what I’ve been looking for and more

Glad it's a help for you. This is definitely one of my favorite Doyle Lawson breaks of all time. I love his interpretation of Monroe.....

Hey Wayne, thanks for this! I love your approach teaching Bill Monroe style! I'd like to spend more time learning it. You seem to alternate between all down strokes and alternating up and downs.

Howdy Ken! Thx for the comment. You're right, once you get past a comfortable tempo the all down pick direction is off the table. Check out the Uncle Pen video here on the channel. It's a great example of an opportunity to play all down....
