This is one of the best golf instructions I've ever seen, and believe me I've watched thousands of videos. Focusing my attention on my club head traveling along the swing plane and letting kinematic motion take care of the rest simplifies everything about the golf swing. Dr. Kwon is a genius.

1-13-2023 With ought a doubt this video ( in conjunction with all the exercises ) provides all the concepts necessary to learn a highly functional swing. For me the "guide the club head along the swing path" and "keep the back to the target at the start of the downswing" are my keys in the downswing. One of Dr. Kwon's talents is taking what has been a very complicated subject and " Making it as simple as possible, but not simpler” This quote, usually attributed to Einstein, is often used as an appeal to make a subject as easy as possible to understand, though of course not so easy that it becomes meaningless. Again from my prospective Dr. K is a genius.

B, from 7:20 in this video through the end of this video is right on point in stopping, yours, mine and everyone else over the top move. As I mentioned in your video with your son, to keep back to target longer and that move when you did it stopped the over the top. I’ve been following you since your first vlogs with Malaska and you even mentioned that (OTT) was your big problem. So since that was my big prob I’ve watched hours and hours of your videos, and many others for the cure to OTT…..so I can say you have finally found the instructor with the solution and the proper drills to fix it, and who doesn’t want to gain club head speed along the way. Thank you for growing your channel and bringing such great content, but your search is over man….Dr Kwon is the real deal!

Ben hogan showed up on the tv show and demonstrated that continuous body motion is the basis of golf swing. He puts his elbow close to his waist and swing back and forth, enlarging the motion, and swing through. Dr. Kwon brings additional tools to train the body to perform the whole body swing where Armand chest follow low body movement.

The golf swing involves both kinematics (the way the body moves) AND a kinetics (the forces and momentum required for the club and body to move ). Dr Kwon’s teaching method works so well because it integrates these equally important aspects of the golf swing. No one I have come across does this better.

Hello. I think the difficultie comes from the fact we start from a static position so the club doesn't go automatcly in the good plan. My point of view. Thank you from France.
@jeffreysparbeck7725
@jeffreysparbeck7725 2 года назад
I think that’s exactly correct. People have a much better dynamic motion because they aren’t think about it. But when they’re static at address, that’s where the problems begin.
@seds27
@seds27 2 года назад
I had same issue. Static position to start is the killer. I now am constantly in some kind of motion after addressing the ball and have zero thoughts of positions. My backswing is 2x speed of downswing and the power is incredible and straight ball flights. Low and Slow sucks. I am 56 and took drives from 260 to 290. Irons I have gained a full club.

Hey Brendan. Love Dr Kwon’s stuff. I’ve always been an early opener which causes hand path to go out. So I’m always working on staying closed with the body while getting the arms down. Dr Kwon is always saying “use the body” and “you don’t have to use the arms that much.” As I’m doing the drills (on video), when I try to use the body and not use the arms, I open early and hand path goes out. I see him saying here and in some other videos to “let it come down first, and then turn around.” This seems like using your arms. But then he’s always saying you don’t have to use your arm to pull down. Can you help me understand what he’s really saying? For context, I’m around scratch and a long time player. Have studied the golf swing, my own swing, and most of the coaches you’ve had on the channel extensively. Thanks.

High handicapper here as well. This is a great question and highlights something that I have been experiencing. This is all shown with a change to body movement without hitting a ball. As soon as we try this with a ball then there is no reference to let us know what we are not getting right. I followed these vidoes and had a bad out to in swing causing a slice (negative swing path). I added the swing trigger and that helped but it was a lottery if it we straight, left or right. I then discovered that insufficient lateral movement caused the positive path. I then over compensated with more lateral movement and had a bad hook (positive path). Getting the right amount of lateral momevent in before the rotation is key here and Dr Kwon can see it by eye, we cant. Getting recentred before the rotation is the key. As a plus I am 10yards flat carry further with my 7 iron with this change to swing.
@jdstubbs9971

@@stuartamorrison . I edited my comment. Not that it matters, but the point of describing my level is that I’ve put significant amounts of time studying the swing and have played some really good golf, but I’m still not totally clear on this point. I know from watching the channel that there are differing opinions among golf instructors on this same point. 😀
@DLudGolf

I believe he persists that the arms do not have to raise in the backswing, there-fore they do not have to drop in the front swing. An active back swing will set the club for you where you didn't have to artificially raise your hands. As long as your tempo is good, the timing of the swing will allow the time required for the arms to drop. Bottom line is to throw the club head back actively and focus on your body tempo. The chain will unfold itself properly. (also working on this concept...btw, not an expert)

This is a pivotal point...the various Dr K videos seem to alternate between a left shoulder initiation (see one arm swing drills and what appears to be within the rope excercise) and those that highlight 'back the target' as the first move. This video amplifies the dichotomy by what seems to be a new focus on swinging the arms on plane versus a body initiated emphasis. So...I really appreciate the weight shift/sequence learning but remain uncertain about just what the first move down. Would appreciate setting me/us straight. Thanks!

Great videos, Dr. Kwon! Since I've been playing golf I've heard the terms "single plane" and "two plane" golf swings. Would you categorize your teaching method as "single plane"? How do you define the difference between the two terms. Thanks!
@3spressoShot
@3spressoShot 2 года назад
I think it’s not closed to either because the focus is to get the club on plane without thinking about exactly where your hands are. So everyone will be in slightly different positions. Some might naturally be in single plane others might go higher with the hands into the classic two plane position. And really it makes sense because all pros have a different takeaway but they all have a similar position at impact

He provides good info if you already have a certain level of understanding, but I think he is not giving enough emphasis, or clarity, to the issues, and potential misunderstandings, seen/heard from this student. This obviously subjective but what it’s done for me is really straightened my ball flight. I haven’t gained much speed. My driver swing speed is about 105. But I think I’m not shifting weight early enough. That being said my flight is so straight now without thinking about my wrists or hand path. It’s hard ti explain other than your body just seems to do it versus fighting your body into weird contortions. My balance and consistency has improved. The other day I hit 13/18 fairways. Thats incredible for me lol

The golfer does not get it. He is 'coming down as one'. Trail hip and trail shoulder are to be separated, the shoulder has to be flail. Learn to control your swing with the bones of your big toes. You will see that the lower body is already on the way to the target while the club head has not finished the backswing yet. Because the right foot continues to apply force and torque as if you wanted to start walking towards the target, the upper body finally has to follow. If you keep your body above the waist passive, it will be flail and will follow in sequence and with speed. This separation is very easy to feel when you do full swings with the club held up 90 degrees out in front of you. Then pay attention to your feet. back - together, reverse - feet way before club head Percy Boomer 'On Learning Golf'
@joneskendrick2084
@joneskendrick2084 2 года назад
The arms really go up vertically and down v out and around. The trail arm should NOT bend more on the downswing; it should actually widen as it moves "down." The main issue with this golf swing is way too much arm motion in trying to demonstrate clubbed speed and not enough backswing torso rotation. The explanation by the player that Dr Kwon has pointing out a "3 part swing" and he's 100% accurate as to what the does; the player admits to trying to "get speed with my arms." Dr Kwon's rope drill is genius for retiming / synching the swing and teaching where to stop the arms and still time the transition. Tour players rarely bend their right arm more than 90* and most only bend the trail are approx 75*. Their arms remain within the "framework of their shoulders" NOT outside as this player does at the top of backswing. This player's trail arm angle at top is far less than 90* and that leads to bad ju-ju. Tour players achieve club/ arm "depth" with rotation NOT taking the arms higher or longer across the chest as this player does. Butch Harmon says a "short arm swing and big body swing" (as Dr Kwon is trying to show this player) is the best way to hit a golf ball. If one stands straight with arms extended out in front and then bring the forward arm over to the trail arm that's about all a Tour player's arms moves. The rest is really up and down vertically and deeper by body rotation. This player is limiting his accuracy and, to a certain extent, CHS but but faithfully doing Dr. Kwon's drills will make a massive improvement.

Their data set of comparative swings are thousands of Tour Pro swings who have transited through Scott Hamilton's place in Georgia as students. Kwon's methods for repatterining is ahead of the curve and watched by AMG many others. That said, there is not a magic bullet in golf. Dammit.
