Just because I said 1.18 doesn't mean it doesn't work beyond that version! 1.18 offers the amazing new terrain to build suspension bridges over, so this video is a guide to bridging over any gap you find while building up your base!
TEMPLATE FOR EQUATION:
Replace firstPronumeral, secondPronumeral and thirdPronumeral with the numbers you've worked out, respectively.
Insert the below into your Excel formula.
=((firstPronumeral)*A1^2)+((secondPronumeral)*A1)+(thirdPronumeral)

How do I find the gradient at the ends?

That's up to you! For a less "droopy" arc, you pick a lesser number. For a more droopy arc, you pick a higher number.

hey, so my coordinates ended up really weird like they range from two unrealistic y coordinates my equation is: =((1/96)*A1^2)+((209/48)*A1)+(1431.03125)

Why did you choose 1 for the y values?

So that the main "cable" parabola will have a gradient of 1 where the towers are. If you want the arc to be more "droopy", then you'd select a number above 1, which means the point where the arc will intersect the towers at a steeper gradient.

Hello. I've just tried this, but the numbers keep on increasing, rather than decreasing. What should i do.

I'm guessing you're not after making an arch bridge. Your numbers should decrease, then increase. If your Y axis numbers are increasing then decreasing, then all you may need to do is flip the sign of the FirstPronumeral. If your numbers are increasing without stop, then it's a bit harder to fix - but your first step in fixing this could be to ensure that on your gradient graph (the y' graph), your line is crossing the X-axis AT the midpoint. You may want to find out what problem you're exactly having by creating a scatter plot to figure out what kind of bridge shape/arc your spreadsheet is giving you first. www.excel-easy.com/examples/scatter-plot.html Once you do that and find out what shape your graph is giving you, it'll be much easier to figure out where the problem is and fix it. I followed every step but the coordinates in excel are showing as several HUNDRED THOUSAND and I dunno where I went wrong

Check to make sure everything is bracketed correctly, otherwise excel will get confused. Can you paste your equation along with your tower coordinates? edit: into a reply
