We set out to a new lake we had never fished before to see if we could have any luck. We used Jaw Jackers as well as the jigging base to see if we could identify what species of fish were in this lake. This was the first time this winter I got the chance to test out my new Jaw Jacker setup. I'm using the Frostbite Dipstick 39" Light fiberglass blank rods in my Jaw Jackers, equipped with an Okuma Ceymar CBF-50 small bait feed spinning reel. My reels are spooled with 10 lb power pro, with about a 24' bumper of 12lb Seaguar Red Label, attached with a Uni to Uni Knot. I do this because I feel like the Ice stop rides smoothly on the fluorocarbon, and 12 lb seems to fit the hole in the Ice Stops nicely, plus is strong enough to handle most if not all inland lakes trout species that I plan on targeting with this setup. From there, below the Ice stop I use a Raven Micro swivel, also attached with a Uni Knot, and I tie on about a 32 to 36 inch leader, usually Seaguar Red Label 6lb. The longer leader allows you to lift the Ice Stop up out of the hole and still allow the fish room to run around without popping off on the bottom of the ice. From there I tip my leader however I wish to fish that day, from Specialist hooks and spawn bags, to wet flies, to jig heads with minnows or wax worms... The options are endless!
