Using My iPhone 14 Pro As A GoPro! (Action Mode Test) 

Amazing video! The action mode is very nice but your efforts into making this video were even more impressive!

The whole time I watched, I thought, "please don't fall, please don't fall!" This is probably the absolute best way to review the action mode and will inspire other tech reviewers to do similar things. Kudos, Chris! Totally impressed.

This is actually a really great idea for a video, testing the action mode in real life scenario. Hands up for that Chris. I think it might be pointless to compare the footage of the iPhone with the GoPro, without having a better grip system for the iPhone. If you find such a grip system, then please most definitely get a GoPro and test them out 😁

Very cool demo for the action mode, it does work quite well although sacrifing resolution and viewing angle with the crop but you do get nice usable footage. To use as action camera the size of device makes it a bit tricky to secure and get the angle right as you demonstrated, imagine having it head mounted would look very strange hehe. Awesome location for this video, well done

Really interesting! Clearly has limitations, but for sure it's a first step towards an "action cam" mode. You put it to an extreme test and it survived, not only the footage that was quite steady, but also the phone itself, that didn't fall off 😅

That's eye opening! I considered getting a chest mount for my iPhone and now I realize it is definitely worth getting a GoPro style action camera. BTW, I have the same Trek Rail 5. I highly recommend it!

Would be interesting to see the action mode up against the Vivo/iQOO phones with gimbal camera.

Im using iphone 14 pro max but camera focus has a big issue. I hope apple will recall or some software upgrade to resolve this.

i just checked a gopro comparison between the 9,10,11 gopros and they were so similar, but definitely in a totally different league than this action mode shakiness...

So the Iphone uses mechanical stabilisation with sensor shift technology and in sports mode it uses EIS i guess or probably both combined? I have a the IP13 pro max and the DJI Action 4 and its astonishing how good you can stabilize with software and the internal gyro sensor data of the camera. The results are like from a gimbal, lets see what the IP15 pro max can do, i will buy one.

When you first started riding the video looked a bit pixelated. That continues when your on the trail and flat cement trail, as well. The saturation also wasn't stable, the color saturation kept intermittently changing. For the most part the stabilization did what it had to do, it was more about the pixelation, and the intermittent saturation, not being stable?

Please do one head mounted video, I think that's where the view should be.

The footage was pretty smooth on the 14 and decent quality , but the crop makes the image very limiting , i dont think go pro has any worries about the iphone taking go pros serious action shooter sales away.

The Action Mode is relly bad, its stabel but you only have like 30° FOV and can't relley see wahts going on. Maybe you can make a second video where you use a Fisheye lens mode on the phone

Great comparison, Action Mode looks nice but takes a big hit in its Field of View. Regular 4k seems the same on 13 & 14

Action mode is usable without lot of a glitches but records only your bike and bit of a road after a few seconds. Strange shit.

No saftey rails there! Wtf! I got scared when i saw you riding there. Also chris would be nice if you could do a review of dji action 3 (slated to get the 10 bit update in future) and compare it to the go pro hero 11 (which comes with 10 bit out of the box now). You can maybe contact dji for a review unit. They might loan you one.

I may be exaggerating here. But, * your video is more than enough to convince me that Apple has upgraded their game with the action mode feature.* A great reason to upgrade from Iphone 13 pro max. GoPro is for extreme adventure. But, Iphone 14 Pro Max could have that action mode experience anytime even on a regular basis. And, most of all, I can rely on Iphone 14 Pro Max for any low light situations.

I have a better solution for this; I designed a mount that not only allows me to mount my iPhone 15 but also hold an SSD, in the case, the Samsung T7 with 2 terabytes. This way, while recording videos in ProRes Log, I can directly upload 350 hours of videos in the highest quality to my SSD. What do you think?

It's basically a software crop to not show the shaky edges in real shot. I know apple kids will fall for this feature.

Looks OK still waiting when apple will change that 12MPx for real 24MPx no need more but 24MPx is optimal.

I think the action mode looks pretty good. If the camera was just pointed higher, it would have been good and useable footage imo. iPhone 13 looks terrible.

Well, it's already better because it's 2.8K and not 1080p.

Seems action mode produces crappy video's in not so good lightconditions (read actionmode only works well in good lightning conditions).

The problem with iPhone for MTB from what I can tell isn't the phone but the mounts, which at best point the camera toward the front wheel and at worst fall down completely for a lap shot. It's not exactly usable video, which is a shame because GoPros are apparently unreliable and therefore overpriced.

Better than most Android phones acrion modes. Still not as good as a gopro but eventually it will get there
