He is using Parrot OS that comes with a pre-styled terminal. Those $ signs you see are not part of the code. The $ sign in this case is a way to show the user that line ends here, but the sign itself does not exist in code.

It's vi the text editor , it and all it's flavours like vim, neovim use the $ sign to indicate end of line
