Using Pedals With The Boss Katana: Drive And Gain 

I took my favorite overdrive (Lovepedal Kalamazoo Gold) and tried to get the best result from the K100. 1. Clean Mode: nope, too many harsh mids, sounds compressed. 2. Crunch: nope, weird clipping (seems any good overdrive does this.) 3. Effects Return: BETTER, but no master EQ control. 4. ACOUSTIC mode: AWESOME. Yep. If you want to run the Katana as a clean pedal platform, try ACOUSTIC mode. It's full-range without sounding sterile.

My setup: Crybaby 535Q => Joyo Compressor => NUX Mini Core Monterey Vibe => TC Electronic Dark Matter => TC Electronic MojoMojo Overdrive => Katana Artist. Have several Fender Sneaky amps and of course I don't use all the pedals at the same time, usually. Looking for a decent fuzz pedal eventually and then I want an RV-500 through the effects loop. I am still experimenting with all the in-amp boosters and FX and have some cool tones.

Been keeping in touch with a friend from high school over emaikl for 20 years.. he is probably top 3 player in the area.. super talented... and we debate about genres a lot... 20 years running.. lol we live in the same city but he is addict and we live different lifestyles. I told him I order a travel katana...and he told me has 50W katana mk2 in pawn.. and suggested I shouldtake it out of pawn for myself... and I did.. wow.. what an amazing amp... i had to thank him for that one... I paid about $240 canadian, and it was only 6 months old and barely used.

My pedalboard is just two clean boosts,two overdrive's and a wah...it works great with my Katana's. I use the crunch channel...sounds and feels just like a great valve amp on a gig or at home ..👍😎

For a Clean tone plataform I like using gain on Min and Volume on Max. Then adjust your master vol. Even in the Brown Amp mode you Will get Nice cleans, Crunch and Lead are also good, depends on your taste.

Thanks I think Boss nailed the solid state amp, I was looking at getting a low power tube amp. But I think the BOSS Katana will work great for me.

I recently purchased this used katana 100watt and guitar store clerk mentioned to me that MXR pedals probably won’t work on it... I own 9 MXR pedals and 1 moeer drummer pedal , 1 Wah pedal .. Thanks for doing this video as I setup my pedalboard for Boss amp soon.

I think it just depends on what you're going for. However, the blues driver sounded pretty good for going through a Katana.

I’ve found that just leaving the volume at 100% and dialing the gain up to maybe 30-40% on the clean channel works well. Then your master is for your overall output volume. Give that a try. My katana often sounds a bit too bassy-low-middy, surprisingly, with my jag. I usually have bass and mid dialed back to around 30-35% and treble around 60% and that gives me a nice balanced output. Nice and clean. And when you wanna overdrive it naturally a bit, I just crank the gain. I actually don’t use the other amps much. Lead sometimes, brown occasionally. Crunch rarely. Acoustic never. Cheers

Just bought a K100 with hopes of using it as a clean pedal platform. Granted, I JUST got the amp, but I found that running my favorite gain pedals in front, the Katana sounded clipped (like a mic hitting a cheap compressor) and the bottom was woofy and booming, similar to @8:21 1. What's the best clean setting to run gain pedals in front? 2. Is there a speaker upgrade that does a better job of handling low end (say you're running a Muff circuit into the front.) Thanks! How about in the FX loop ? Modulation & reverbs ? Sounds good in front but I'm a Blues Man so I use much less distortion & very little gain. I play clean usually with a little tape echo and reverb. Blues On....

Boss angry driver works really well with Katana.

How different would it sound to pair these pedals with a Katana Air Ex? I love the sound of this thing with the Op Amp Big Muff in front of it. Exactly the kind of shoegazy distortion I’m chasing

Running an MK2x12 and have a Line 6 M9 in front that I use for a cpl effects (like 'throbber), some extra EQ/boost, and if course the tuner...the Katana hase 90% of what I'm looking for, but my M9 is a nice little add to my setup...i basically gives me a couple more channels in a way and a tuner of course.

JRAD Archer and the JHS Angry Charlie are spectacular as usual through the MkII 100w Head....not a shocker!. ;)

They all sounded good to me. I'm a rookie and have owned this amp about a month with little time to try it out. Just for kicks I bought a DOD Boneshaker and tried it yesterday. Not really the sound I was going for but for $35 new, wth. The art on the right hand is awesome. Does the sleeve match?

I'm a simple man, I run an ME-80 through my Katana. And have had nothing but complements at our live shows. If I could afford "boutique" pedals I might have a differing opinion, but the ME-80 sounds great through my sharp edge

Hello ,I have katana 50 ,and prs se 245 :) I use only looper pedal ,and was thinking of buying 2 foot swiches ,and making 4 chanes ,one been clean ,with a bit delay ,and reverb ,2nd chanel ,crunch on the cleaner side ,and 3rd basicly as OD1 and 4th as OD2. But I am not sure how will it handle 4 chanel ,when in actuality has 2+2 chanells if you know what I mean ,will I confuse internal softwere.I would love to here if anyone tryed it ,and how its worked for you... When I got the Katana I thought i was supposed to plug my pedal board into the clean channel maybe that's not the best channel for a pedal board?

Just a question, but do you think you might've dialed in too much bass for recording this? I heard that when micing up an amp for a recording, to much bass on the amp's EQ could result in a slightly more muffled tone. Obviously, that's not a factor from the players perspective since their in the room but that's sorta what I got from the overall sound here. And it seemed like it was a little muffled for each pedal demo.

Can you mix and match analog pedals and the built in effects in any order or are your choices of order limited? example say I have my own drive pedals going in the front but I'm using the built in wah effect with a compatible expression pedal plugged into the back of the amp and I want the wah before the analog pedals in the chain. I dont see a way to do that.

I have a Boss Katana Mk2 100, i Also have a Boss pedal board (Phaser, Octave, Chorus, Super Overdrive, Delay & a power supply pedal..i havent used the pedals since i bought the Katana Mk2 100 since all of those (except the Super Overdrive) come stock on the Amp’s effects; but recently I finally got a Original Cry Baby Wah pedal, im not sure if i’ve been hooking it up correct with the MK2 100, i’ve been plugging the input into the top (beside all the knobs) & running that cable into the side of the Cry Baby Wah that says “amplifier” & then pluging a cable into my guitar & running that into the other side of the Cry Baby pedal that says “instrument” (this pedal i currently run on battery, dont currently know how to attach it with my boss pedal board with power supply). My question is, am I running the Cry baby wah pedal correctly for the Katana MK2 100, or should i be plugging my guitar into the top Input of the Katana Mk2 100 & plugging the cry baby wah pedal into one of the inputs in the back of the MK2 100? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks & keep up the great content! (Also can i run external effects & internal effects at the same time? For ex, if i wanted a lot of overdrive & ran the booster with Blues Overdrive on the Amp, & also run my Boss Super OverDrive pedal at the same time...or run my Boss Delay pedal, with delay on the amp for major delay lol..is this possible/ok for the Katana Mk2 100?)

Was this using the clean channel in the amp? I am having problems on using a Proco Rat copy in the crunch channel, the sound gets compressed and loses volume, also it distorts the sound in an unwanted way.

I'm running amp, MXR Distortion, Behringer tube screamer (green), guitar, in that order to the brown sound at 100% gain, and volume. Obviously mxr is set at 25% gain, 75% level, tube screamer tone is 12 o clock and 100% rate. Level is same as distortion. So far the sound is great with just a hint of digital delay. Any tips let me know.

I have the KTN 50, it doesn't have an FX loop is there any way I can use my volume pedal NOT as a master volume?

The first thing you should do when playing a Katana amp is turn the Bass knob all the way down otherwise you will get a fart-y frequency response on the low end.

My Angry Charlie sounds like ass for metal. Disappointed. It's the ONLY reason I bought the Katana. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Can't imagine what tho, what did I turn the gain up wrong? Tried everything, crunch clean, all that.

My Electroharmonix Fuzz makes my sound wobble (volume goes up and down for no reason) Anyone knows what's wrong? Are the pedals connected wrongly? Maybe different cables?

The Fullbore sounded horrible. Very farty low end with too much sizzle. I did like the micro amp for the mild overdrive sound though. I will continue my search for the best solid state pedal platform amp.
