I'm author of SW about which is this video (Petari, PP) . This guide is pretty good, but something is missing. I send always prepared 15 MB image to buyers, so no need that users put something like it together. Just need to write it to SD card (or CF card, if it is IDE version) with proper SW for it and USB reader (bad name, it can write too ! :-) ) . After that just insert in adapter for Atari ST(E) and start all it ... Funny thing in all this is how some relevant details get lost while people gives SW to others . Btw. there is update what will automatically set drive icons on Desktop for D and later partitions (done about 14 months ago) .
Thanks for the wonderful software Peter! I purchased it from you back in 2015 😎 I did use the 15MB image - I write it to the SD card at 3:53 (very useful and no floppy needed!). Excited to hear about the updated version - will email you on that directly!
Hi, James, I followed your tutorial and added 2 partitions (drives C & D), but how do I add more, for example, another 12? Is there a key I need to hit before it boots to the desktop? Cheers!
If you’re in mainland Europe, you can buy from Lotharek: lotharek.pl/productdetail.php?id=48 If you’re in the UK, you can buy from retro lemon: retrolemon.co.uk/ultrasatan/15-ultrasatan-cased.html Hope this helps!
That is such a clear guide. Just dug out, cleaned up (it was filthy!) and got working my old 520 STFM which I had upgraded to 1024 when I was a kid. I don't want to mess with the internals of my machine so UltraSatan looks good. Can I ask does the 1.02 TOS have any issues with this other than the 256MB partition size? - It seems that you cannot buy TOS 1.04 ROMS anywhere as nobody makes the chips anymore and like I said I don't really want to start putting custom daughter boards in there.
Oort Cloud I know there are some reports of disk and file corruption when working with hard drives in TOS 1.02, but it’s never happened to me. I have an old STFM with TOS 1.02 and it works fine
Thanks for that. It does work mostly with TOS 1.02 however there are some issues with very large folders. If you navigate into a folder with a ton of subfolders and content on TOS 1.02 it gets confused and all folders start showing as empty. I spoke to Peter about it and he tested it too and confirmed its an issue, so one thing to be aware of. But other than that it works fantastically. Anyway, thanks again for making such a clear guide.
Hey I have an ULTRA SATAN and when its not connected my STE 1mb works no problem. When I plug in the ULTRASATAN you guessed it NOTHING, no power to the STE?
Hi, I wanted to PM you but you seem to have disabled that way of communication, so I will do it this way. I was wondering if you could help me out, I need to get hold of around 16 games (cracked on blanks is fine) for my Atari STfm but I am not able to write these roms on to the normal 3.5" floppy disks, I have asked many people I know but so far no'one has been able to help. If I supplied the blank disks needed and pay for the postage costs, would you be able to write the Atari ST games I need to upload on my channel in unemulation form?! In return I will also include a shout-out and a link to your channel in the descriptions of those games when I upload them on to my channel. I have a normal Atari STfm with double sided disk drive, no hard drive, so basically I just want to place the disk of that game into my Atari where it simply loads. I am able to do all my 8-bit roms and play them into the original hardware and I have someone I know who writes all my Amiga ADF's on to blank disks for me but I'm not having any joy on the Atari ST front. Can you help on this matter? Thanks very much, Zeus.
Absolutely, very happy to help! I'm a big fan of unemulated gaming too! Do you have Twitter? I can contact you on there to discuss. In the meantime, you might find my other video useful - on how to create bootable ST game disks - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tu52dALu6lQ.html
+jamesfmackenzie Hi James, have you sent me an email yet through "ice8629" yet?!, I need to send you my main email through there as I'm not on twitter, Zeus.
Hi James. Thanks for this guide. But I partitioned the sd card then i get the " not DOS part. Disk " message when i install the harddisk driver. What may be the problem ?
Alper Ocak unfortunately I haven’t come across that issue. My recommendation would be to try another SD card and/or reach out the Peter (who you purchased the drivers from)
I got my Ultrasatan a few weeks ago, and tied your instructions with Peter Putnik's image file (called 15MB.IMG). However, on my Atari 1040 STE (it's stock except for a TOS 2.06 upgrade) it does not detect the Ultrasatan. After powering on and seeing the Atari screen/RAM check, the light on the Ultrasatan's SD card side blinks for a split second, but when it's all finished, only floppy A and floppy B are to be seen. I even ran US10R.PRG and it said it could not detect hard drive. I have confirmed that my Ultrasatan, cables, power supply, and card works correctly by sending it to a friend for testing. Any ideas? My STE was bought new by me in 1991. The HD port was never used.
Unfortunately it does sound like an issue with your ST's hard disk port or controller. Are you able to (temporarily) get your hands on another ST hard disk to try out?
I went and got a Mega STE for a good price, mint in box and everything. Anyway, the Ultrasatan worked right away. I'm guessing I had a bad DMA chip. Strange, since the old STE was mine since 1991 and I never used the ASCII port. Oh well, I'm happy now with the Mega STE. Best Atari 68000 machine ever!
Most common reason for not working (well) is not compatible SD card (with UltraSatan or some other adapter). Of course, error may be in Atari self. In this case yes, DMA port seems as most likely problem.
Digital Beat Music the UltraSatan partitions are writeable from the ST side too. Just drag and drop the files on your GEM desktop, eject the SD card and put it into your PC
