Sally Paterson, a Qualified Teacher of Visual Impairment, explains why books with tactile illustrations are so important for children with visual impairment.
Sally says interpreting tactile objects is not an automatic skill for a blind or visually impaired child. Sally introduces story boxes and explains how objects in a story box can help develop children’s reading skills.
“It’s really important you encourage children. With the right practice and support, the world of books is opened up to a visually impaired child.”
