Yes I own both the Ipad Air 1st Gen and Ipad 8th Gen I currently use my ipad air 1st gen for jail breaking still as the ipad 8 is just a pain to jailbreak I used the ipad air 1st gen from 2013 to just 6 months ago from this post as my main device I think I got a good amount of use out of it. The Battery Life isn't terrible on it Mine runs fine well for a good few hours
unless they randomly cut Support like for the first ipad which still works but no apps can be installdd D: not even old app versions can be downloaded kf the developers wanted to allow that.
quick side note: if your ipad has an known battery defect or a "used" battery (under 80% battery health) apple will repair your ipad battery (which means they replace the whole unit) for 99$. you don't have to pay the full 249$. this is eligable for every ipad that is still suported by apple services. edit: to be eligible to this program your ipad has also to be visually okay. so no cracked screens etc. slight wear like scratches and small dents are no problem tho in my experience.
@@e14ee the replacement is indeed refurbished but normally optically indistinguishable from a new device. the battery is obviously new and at 100% health. your case is in my experience a exception. did they offer an replacement for the replacement?

Still using the first iPad Air every day. Perfect for watching RU-vid! Garageband is also nice. although launching a bit slowly. Battery lasts for ages. Also great for video calls, the iPad has better microphones than my phone, which is many years newer! It's also the 64GB version, plenty of space for normal usage, though would definitey go for at least 128GB if ever upgradging.
How are you still using the first iPad Air?? I can’t even use RU-vid or anything on it 😭 I need to update the apps and to update them I need to update the software and to do that I need a newer iPad ffs lol
@@ModernTriicks if you had previously downloaded an earlier RU-vid app using your apple account then you can download it again and the latest compatible version of RU-vid app certainly still works today in October 2023 on the first iPad Air from 2013. If you never previously downloaded an older version then Apple won't allow you to download an older compatible app.

I’ve got one. It’s still going. Dropped it off yesterday for a cracked screen and new battery. My battery was tested at 11%, definitely close competition to Grandma’s one. Getting both done for €80. I’m thinking of handing this down to my 5 year old nephew. Great video. Love your content.
I bought both my parents iPad airs in 2014 and they both loved their tablets. My mother still uses hers but my dad ended up getting an upgrade to the iPad air 3. Its impressive that these older tablets still run well, granted my not be as fluid as the newer iPads for its age its unbeatable
It’s crazy how good Apple devices hold up. My nephews and nieces use the iPad mini 1st gen to play a couple of games and browse RU-vid. It sometimes crashes but, for a nearly 10 yr old device, I think it’s great!
i am still using my iPad Air and it still works great! continuity still works with my M1 MacBook Air, iPhone 8, and my Apple watch. My battery still lasts about 10 hours
My first tablet ever was the iPad Air. I absolutely loved it. The 2 only downsides were the non laminated screen, and the single speaker. I ended up selling it and getting the 2nd gen iPad Pro. One of the negatives of actually having a tablet is that I never read. Something I greatly miss.
I remember they gave us iPad airs for school back in 2014,I had mine for 6th and 7th grade. We didn’t use them as much as we could of but it always worked good for everything.
This was my first iPad and it actually replaced my laptop as I am a light user when it came out back in 2013. Just loved the size and had a great display. Got rid of it last fall when the IPhone 12 came out. Verizon had a deal that they would give me $100 credit if I traded it in. I do remember it would run fine. Some websites would be a tad slow to scroll and load. But still very manageable for the most part and worked. This was the tablet that started that ‘future proof’ standard of quality for Apple’s tablets A chips going forward. Good engineering. Looking back at how this tablet aged in media consumption makes me wonder how tablets of today will hold going forward…..
I’ve been using the iPad Air 1 since early 2016; even using it now! As you correctly mentioned yourself, it holds up quite well for your daily general tasks - hopefully I’m capable of upgrading it soon.
I still have my OG iPad, iPad two, both of my iPad threes, and my iPad 4 all still in excellent condition. I just put them in storage recently when I moved even the batteries were all still good love the video.
I believe Josh the way you presented the price of the battery replacement in Apple’s website is the screen replacement section. XD You just had to scroll down a little bit more & the battery replacement actually costs out of warranty $99 dollars in the US or $129 if your in CA. Big discount for your grandma! Yeah at the time Android tablets were still good… I had a nexus 7 2013 and my friend got this iPad Air for school both were amazing at the time, but the obvious edge goes to the iPad for better support and apps.
I’ve used my Air everyday since 2013. It’s pretty mind blowing that it still works as well as it does. An upgrade is getting nearer though as quite a few apps have been made ios13 only now. I might go for a 12” M1, that should be a noticeable upgrade 😆
I was in middle school and I saved up my birthday and Christmas money did odd jobs and everything for two years to buy the iPad 3 on launch day. And then the iPad 4 came out 6 months later and I have never been so mad about about anything.
I still have the iPad Air 2 with 128 GB and while it was great overall for the 5+ years I’ve had it, it’s slowed down considerably in the last year or two. After I got the iPhone 11 about a year ago, my first phone, I started realizing how painfully slow my iPad was in comparison. Even things like Spotlight Search are too much for this iPad to handle. Other than small glitches though, I’m quite impressed! Also, one minor note: the iPad Air 2 is not fully laminated. There is still a large gap in between the touch surface and the display. It may of gotten better but it’s still not good. Even the iPad 8’s display is not laminated.

So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.
Back in 2014 on ios 7, this was the fastest device I ever had. Today it's on ios 12, sluggish, and crashes on Facebook all the time...hate to see it be like this today considering how much of a powerhouse it was years ago
I got the iPad 3 :/ but that thing served me well. It was used all the way to 2018/19 so yeah it was very painful near the end, but it's still impressive. Also the battery seems to still be fine after all those years.
11:33 lol I was that person with an iPad mini 2 strapped to a sling on trips taking pictures. That iPad was my do-everything device. It shot better photos than my point-and-shoot camera at the time. For my first ever computer more advanced than a DSi I loved that thing. Used it throughout high school to take notes and type up papers and used it as my main gaming console as the WiiU didn't have any AAA titles coming out for it to scratch that FPS itch. (Touch controls in shooters are better than aiming on a stick in fps games, you cannot change my mind)
Until now I still use the 1st iPad Air and to be honest, it does start to feel a little slow but overall it still gives me a great performance for web browsing, note-taking, using social media and etc. So really it's still very good. wouldn't recommend someone to just get one but if you still have one, you might just find yourself sticking to using it until it really breaks.
@@yhannyyoo1258 It has been starting to slow down in performance, but overall for light use such as e-reading, taking notes (though no Apple Pencil support) and maybe some light web browsing and content consumption, it still holds up pretty well. So if you’re on a tight budget, then yea a secondhand one would do the work but if u have maybe around 400$ ish I’d recommend you to get a new iPad 9th generation
I have this iPad for 8 years now! I love it very much! Still works for me!! Wish had bigger storage! If age very well! Have some knits on the body. Might look forward to upgrade! But my iPad couldn’t get a battery replacement at apple…
Imo, every single notebook from 2013 (netbooks not so much) ist able to surf the internet with ease. Cpu power made almost no major step in the last 10 years. The Core-i-4000 (from early 2013) series ist still capable for almost any task including gaming. Even my Thinkpad from 2008 with a core duo cpu can handle browsing. Not smooth, but clearly usable.
I had this Air until last week and let me tell you: while it ran RU-vid ok, it was a pain for anything else. Even YT was kind of slow. You need to wait for everything to happen. I don’t recommend using it anymore. Just bought a Mini 6 to replace it.
I recently got this iPad air 1st gen from a family member and I've been using it since i got it 3 months ago! The charger port is trying to give out but somehow, i make it work lol. Its my first ipad ever and i cant upgrade to something newer as in broke lol
Coming well into 2023, my iPad Air still holds up decently with a great battery life. However app support seems to be dropping dramatically after your video was posted in 2021. Various streaming services such as Netflix won’t even hold archives of versions still compatible with iOS 12. It’s a shame, but I can understand not having to support so many devices. Having owned a long dead iPod Touch 5th gen that went out horribly thanks to iOS 9 and a busted battery, I’m amazed at how far Apple has come in supporting old devices and keeping tolerable performance.
4:11 mine is 16 gb, and it’s a complete nightmare concerning storage I’m amazed battery and all’s as good as it is after 10 years of life. No real problems outside of storage, few nearly invisible dead pixels, and quite the cosmetic damage, which is probably all categories of problems but whatever jskajqklglell andllamlk 1:14 Battery can last like 3-4 hours with moderate to heavy usage, around 3 with heavy usage and 4-5 with moderate usage. It can sit on standby for weeks or even months if stored at half to three quarters charged. Light usage gets you a few days of life. But that means the battery charging time is basically an eternity. I probably charge it with an iPhone charger but if it fits I’m probably just gonna end up using it anyways. 10:26 You’re probably looking at 2-4 hours if you wanna get from 0% to 100. If you want to do that, you’re looking at closer to 4 overall. Starting at 30-40% will take around 2-3 hours. Of course the charger also plays a big role in the charging time.
