Finally a quality video on this process, it was Key for me to see that you wouldn't use the regular OBD2 location while using the bypass cable and why that is important. Thank you!!
Bro I was about to order the super chips and a friend told me about the jscan, I watched your video and I'm about to order everything I need from Amazon....this Tuesday my lift and tires go on my gladiator....thanks for the video you the man!
Hey. We're all here to help each other! You're welcome. I love jscan. Have been using it for about a couple years now. I bought enough licenses so I could use it on our JT, JKU, and my parents Charger, Ram 1500, and Caravan. If you have any questions, let me know. And let me know how it's working for you once you start using it.
@@mayito_mxli_0592 Great! You should notice a change in shift points and RPMs. Let me know how it goes. I'm always interested in everybody's experiences.
Yo brother. Try researching my channel. I made that video almost two years ago. A lot has changed since then. The videos have changed and so has Jscan. I made a more recent video last year where the only music is the intro and the rest of the video has no music at all. The video is also more in depth on how to connect and use Jscan. I'll give you the link so you don't have to trouble yourself searching. And no mixtape. Link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-43bmuAN_GM8.html
I know right! The price and the fact that you can do everything that the expensive programmers do is worth it. And with the flashcal, you have to leave it plugged in.
You're welcome, my friend!🙏 I'm a person that believes we learn from each other. So, if you ever have any suggestions, comments, or questions, let me know. That's how we all get better! Again, I appreciate you and the kind words!💯
Need your help when I do a restart all ecus I’m afraid that it will reset all my pcm valve s but it won’t correct jut will only reset what modular modular you’re in
@@richarddiaz8248 I've been using jscan for four years. And since I've been using it, I've learned that it doesn't reset any adjustments that were already made. It just resets to make sure the new settings are saved. For example, mine is set for 5.38 gears, 37" tires, tpms - 15psi, and aftermarket turn signals. If I go to 40" tires and adjust for the 40s, it won't change the settings that are already in there for the 5.38 gears, tpms, and turn signals. Or anything else that I've changed. Not saying it can't happen, but I've never had it change any other values.
Yes. From what I understand, only the gladiators have the metal bracket. None of my friends the JLs have it either. But no matter what, you're correct. They're still hard to access.
Great! Once you get it and get into playing around with it, you'll be surprised at a everything you can do with it. Some stuff you won't even know what it is. Haha! Enjoy that new Jeep!!!
Thanks for this vid! I crawled up in the footwell looking for the cables and never found them, then I almost got permanently stuck down there. Now that I've seen your video I know what to look for. I searched for those extension cables but I couldn't find any - probably because I don't know what they're called. I just looked for 12 +8 extension cables, but got nothing. Anyway, thanks again.
Yes. They definitely didn't make it easy for you. I think I caught a cramp once. Haha. I had to get those cables. They were expensive when I first bought them, but they are way cheaper now. But....I got you. Here is a set from Z automotive: www.zautomotive.com/product/z_sgw_ext/
Ok so is that why i cant change parameters on my 2019 JL because the OBD2 plug in thats in plain view wont work? I need to also buy extension cables too?
Yes. You can plug in the OBD connector in the port, but you can read only. You can't write. But if you connect it to the port, you can read and write. And you don't have to buy the extension cables, but I highly suggest you do. It'll save your hands and knuckles and lot of pain.
Why do you have to remove the extension before visiting the dealer....? what if you leave the extensions well tucked underneath...? I imagine the dealer will hook their computer to the standard OBD port which is rather accessible so they will not even see the cables tucked away... right....? (or am I missing something....)
You don't have to remove the extensions. If I said that in the video, I mistakenly said that. As far as connecting and external OBD II reader, Having the extensions in place is the same as not having them. You didn't miss anything. Lol. You're good. No need to remove.
Is this just one set of extension cables you're using? I've tried unplugging mine, but both the male and female ends feel pretty stuck up in there, and I don't feel much slack at all on either of them. Unless both ends move, it seems like the extensions would just create slack on one side.
Yes it is. They're really hard to access because of that metal brace. I haven't looked at one, but I think the earlier JLs don't have that. But once you get them out, they only hang down enough to get the adapter on. But you're correct, the extension cables allow enough slack to where you don't even need to crawl under the dash.
@@GoChangeYoLife OK nice, thanks man. Just ordered a set! They're not cheap, but it beats paying the dealership to do it for me every time I need to. 👍
@@Jackal_Blitz You're welcome! Yea. I think when I first got mine, I was in a rush and got two day shipping. But they cost me over $100. I think the prices have come way down since then. That was a year ago. But, glad you got them ordered.
Actually, I've heard of some that do with the Jscan, but it's not necessary. Once you change the settings, it stays. Keeps you from having to do that. That's why Jscan allows you to purchae multiple licenses. I use my same scanner in my parents Mopar vehicles and our JKU. Just used it on the JKU last week.
Thanks! That's actually a good question. I've been using Jscan for a couple years and there have been many updates since then. But I think when I first started using it, I could read certain information about the vehicle and I couldn't write (Program). Not 100$ sure though. Been awhile. Maybe someone that started using it recently could chime in and give a better answer.
@@GoChangeYoLife Ive tried 3 times using the so called bypass cable and IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!! Is it dependent on a bidirectional obd2 scanner? no one will explain this.....BUT Thank You Much ChangeYoLife for being very clear and audible like you intend to share and teach...and actually sharing the procedure that you use. And thanks soooooo much for NOT playing dumb ass music . A great video it is!!!
@@hittz8331 Question? What OBD2 scanner are you using? I ask because Jscan only works with like 2 different scanners. And what procedure are you using to connect?
@@hittz8331 Also, check out a more recent Jscan video that I made. I did this because there have been so many updates and changes to Jscan. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-43bmuAN_GM8.html
@ChangeYoLife I've used Thinkscan plus S4...with 12+8 bypass cable, this was a NO GO. I've used Launch CRP123x, that was a NO GO....and today I'm gonna try Thinkdiag2 with the bypass cable...I feel it will work, being its a bidirectional obd2 scanner. I will post after and let you know.
If by help the speedometer you mean adjust for larger tires or gears so that your speedometer has the correct reading, yes. And when you change your adjustments, it will also help your shift points as well.
Thanks for this video. I replaced halogen drl/sigal light for LED. Now i have a message warnings stating front signal lights not working. Where do I go into JSCAN to fix this? Please help.
I haven't had to use it lately as there have been a ton if updates. But, there should be a setting to where you can turn off the error reporting for the turn signals. Also should be a setting to change to Led. Had a friend change to led and he did his. I had tonchange my taillights and adjust mine.
You probably could. I think I read somewhere that someone left there's connected, but I wouldn't recommend it. Those wires are also a part of the canbus system which means it's part of the network of computers and devices in the vehicle that talk to each other. Leaving something disconnected may disable a device, part, or something else in your vehicle.
Yea. That was a minute ago when I did that video. Changed some things since then. Here is an updated video that I did for Jscan a few weeks ago. Take a look at this one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-43bmuAN_GM8.html
Very helpful. Thanks. You mentioned something about purchasing a license for your vehicle which is associated with my vin number. This is something you do through the app?
Thanks. Yes it is associated to your VIN. Once you purchase the license and start using it, even if you change phones, the app still stays with your VIN. I've changed phones twice since I started using it. Also, I can't remember the price, but when I first started using Jscan, they had a 3 Vin deal, so I bought that and used it for our JKU and my dad's charger because it was cheaper. So, if you have multiple Mopar vehicles, that may be an option.
Thanks. Also, let’s say I program it to run new led DRLs. I hit “go” then restart cues? Once I do that I can unplug the v gate and the truck will remember my settings?
@@chap0801 Haven't done DRLs, but..... Yes. Whenever you restart, unplug vgate obd and sgw and plug the wires break into their original locations. It remembers the settings. Reminder to follow the directions when it tells you to restart. It will tell you what type of restart to do. Power on, power off, etc. And because I have a little OCD,. Ib anyways double check it to make sure the settings saved.
Sorry my friend. I can't answer that question for you. I have a Stinger main unit in both of our Jeeps. So I don't know if you can or not and I can't even connect to try and see. You may have to email Jscan or post in a Jeep forum like Jeepgladiatorforum and see if someone else has tried that.
I have the OBDLINK Mx+ scanner. I swapped my OEM halogen drl/turn signal lights for aftermarket chasing LED lights. It gives me the “turn signal left/right out” with the hyper flashing. I connected the scanner with the bypass cables as instructed and fixed it to where the lights work correctly. Then after unplugging the scanner about the second time I go to turn the lights go out again until I plug the scanner back up and change the setting again. I purchased the license and everything just like you and another Jeeper said to do but it still keeps going back. Do I just leave it plugged in? Or am I doing something wrong?
No. You don't have to leave it plugged in. Since Jscan first came out there have been a ton of updates. One of the things they changed is how you update. The way you update will vary depending on what option you changed. Some of them require you to do nothing and some require you to cycle the vehicle off and back on. Try doing the update again and see what they require you to do and then see what happens.
I have a 2019 Wrangler JL, I still for the life of me cannot find the dang cables, I have video'd, taken pictures, seems dang impossibly to find. Is the security module somewhere else possibly? Thanks for the top on extension cord, will get that also once I find the location of course.
The cables are up there. If you've never accessed them before, they're hard to see. If you take the lower steering wheel cover off, it will give you a little more light to work with. They're more to the left side of the dash (towards the door). Both cables are plugged into a connector right next to each other.
@@fintanrowan Not a problem brother. If you still have a problem finding them, add me on FB: Lazarus Jeep. I'll try and get a couple pics or a video and send it to you.
Some have reported that their remote start stopped working and some haven't. Mine didn't. Maybe it's the luck of the draw. And it's not because it's jscan. There have been Tazer and flashcal users saying the same thing.
www.zautomotive.com/product/z_sgw_ext/ That's the one from tazer. I believe there are a few other companies as well. When I originally bought mine it was only one company and it was expensive. But they're cheaper now.
They were expensive and hard to find back when I first got mine, but a few companies make them now. Here is a link to the one from Z Automotive. www.zautomotive.com/product/z_sgw_ext/
Hey man. great video. I downloaded the OBD Jscan app and bought a bluetooth reader. but I didn't use the SGW Cables. so when I tried to change my tire size it wouldn't. it would time out. is that the reason it wouldn't work is because I didn't have the cables? thanks man!
Thanks! Yes, you have to use the SGW cables. With just the reader, the only thing you can do is read and not write. The SGW cables allow two-way communication. They're much cheaper than when I first purchased mine. And be careful! You must use the correct bluetooth reader/writer as well. There's only a couple different ones that will work correctly. If you get the same exact one that I have, you should be fine.
@@wanderingokie1983 This is exactly what I have: Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) OBD2 Fault Code Reader OBDII Code Scanner Car Check Engine Light for iOS/Android
@@wanderingokie1983 No problem my friend! Glad I could help! Another suggestion. Google SGW extension cables. You should order those too. You don't need them, but if you use the SGW cables one time without them, you'll understand why you WILL WANT them!!! I promise you that once you figure out all of the things you can change and play with once you get everything going, you'll want to get into Jscan more.
@@emadtriki3489 Hello. Due to the fact the you have the 4xE, I'm not 100% informed on it. Also, it's a new Jeep platform. The best advice that I can give you is to contact the dealer and speak with a service manager.
Great video! I like that is uses your phone vs dash like tazer . What is the operating difference between this and tazer and flashcal? What about cost difference? (Including license, etc)
@@jcknepp Thie two biggest differences are the price and the fact that you don't have to plug/unplug every time you go to a dealer. Jscan is the only one that you disconnect the cables when you are done with programming at that moment. And while tazer and flashcal are over $200, you can purchase all of Jscan equip, emt for less than $100 on Amazon. The military had me in SC and I'm from FL. I went back home to FL to regear in Feb. I usually keep my jscan cables in my jeep but left them in SC by mistake. I had to emergency purchase a Flashcal. As soon as I returned to SC, I immediately sold the flashcal and went back to Jscan. Jscan was much more convienient and simple to operate. And I use the same Jscan on my wife's JKU and my Dad's Ram and Charger.
I'll have to look it up when I get home. It was an Italian company. Only ones that had it at the time. I know you can get them off of Amazon. And I'm pretty sure z automotive sells them too
I got mine about 6 months ago from a company and there were expensive because they were one of the only companies with them. But I think tazer had then now for around $30. www.zautomotive.com/product/z_sgw_ext/
You can buy either Jscan, Tazer, or flashcal. Any one of them would work. Jscan is cheaper and you don't have to leave it connected for it to work. You can remove Jscan when you complete your scanning and flashing.
@@emadtriki3489 You can use a scanner to clear fault codes for any vehicle made after 1996. So ye, you can clear the fault codes. But, if there is a problem with your Jeep, the fault codes will return. What you should do is take note of the fault codes that show when you do a scan and if they're not issues that you can repair yourself, take it to a shop, and let them know what you found.
