In this video part two, I shoot for the first time with a camera lens attached to my ASI 183mm pro dedicated astro-camera. Here I take you on my journey, talk about my set up and show you my results with this tiny yet mighty astrophotography set up! Sorry to leave you all hanging in PART ONE but this video needed to be split in two otherwise it would have been 25 minutes! lol
Watch PART ONE if you missed it here!
• Using the Rokinon 85mm...
I will have a massive field of view using the Rokinon 85mm F1.4 shooting at around F2.8. I am trying to find out if it's worth doing knowing the short comings of using camera lenses for astrophotography.
Thanks to my subscribers and thank you for 400 subs! I am a tiny channel and I appreciate you all for following my journey in astrophotography.

Interesting image, I'm wondering if brighter colors would make it pop a bit more. A heated vest under the jacket helps with the sub temperatures.... just have to keep the feet warm.

That is a wonderful suggestion 👌

Thanks for the excellent astro video. I tried a Rokinon 85mm a while back but returned it. But it seems there are more than one version now, although more expensive, and it might not work with a dedicated astro camera, possibly needing a DSLR to function properly? Having an aspherical lens is very important for CA correction. I'm using the ASI2600MC and my Samyang 135mm is really excellent, with very low CA and corner star distortion on the APS-C sensor. I highly recommend it. Are you using high speed filters at the f2? Keep up the great videos!

Hey James thanks for visiting and thanks for sharing your experience with this lens. I'm currently saving up for some 3nm F2 filters I'll get em someday. I'm sure they will make all the difference but for now I'm grateful for what I have and enjoying it when I can lol.

How does the lens manage CA on stars? I heard that unlike the roki 135 this one struggles with ca control.

I think it handles it pretty well. But I shoot monochrome so I have to re focus with each filter change. I'm not sure how osc cams would handle it.

Do you think that the f/ stop of the z73 was the reason why the christmas tree region didn't show in your previous attempt?

I do. However with more integration time on the Z73 that telescope would handle it no problem.

I've just got this lens and I've been trying to find information on it. Hopefully you can help. I have an ASI 178 mm which is basically the little brother of the 183 which you have. Have you tried shooting wide open yet? When I did some test shots on my DSLR I noticed chromatic aberration. I was hoping that this would go away when using a mono camera and narrowband filters. Is this true?

Hey. Michael Thanks for stopping by the channel. Yes I have shot at 1.4 and it's ok. Shooting at F2 is kind of my go to. It has a nice balance with coma and minimal aberrations with a fast shooting speed. You will see the most CA in theOiii Channel. The CA this lens has will always be there but narrowband does diminish it some since your focus will be different depending on which filter you shoot through. Thus aligning the channels way better than the lens could do when shooting in broadband. I say try it and see if you like it at 1.4. your filters might do better than mine did.
