Syd Field is a legend in the screenwriting world. His book SCREENPLAY set the tone for defining 3 Act Structure in movies.
In this video, Tom goes over how to use the Syd Field Paradigm to lay out the structure of your screenplay on one piece of paper.
Why is this important? Because once you have an overall guide to your screenplay, you now have the ability to take a bird's eye view of the entire project. And then you'll be able to focus on crafting each piece of the script: the beginning, middle, and end.

Writing a professional screenplay is the ONLY way to become a working writer, and the tools you need to learn this can only be found in the Write Your Screenplay course.

I still have my well worn copy (duct tape on the backing) of Screenplay that I bought in late 1979, and every few years I'll take it down and read it again. It's become an old and trusted friend.

I feel that Save the Cat, Screenplay, and Story are the holy trinity of screenwriting....Story is more theoretical, save the cat is most practical, and Screenplay is in the middle....

Great video! You just answered one of my biggest questions in script writing Also; I'd like to ask you to make a video about romance and love story plot and character You know; I have this problem that I don't know how much attention and screen time give to the two lovers of the story and other related problems. I would be glad to see a video on this topic Thank you so much for your teaching and hardwork

Can this paradigm be used to write a story for a book, for example, of a particular person's experience fleeing from a country that's run by a dictatorship who's story can potentially turn into a movie? Thanks...

Probably. A story structure often has a beginning, middle and an end.
