Using VLC (Mac version) to Convert Files to MP4 from FLV, Flash, QuickTime, MOV and more

MP4 is a very universal format for playing video, it works on many different devices and also if you want upload to some video sharing sites and social media you need them in the MP4 format. So if you have those Flash files (FLV) or those QuickTime ones that end in MOV there VLC is a free option for converting these files. It is also a great video player too.

To all those coming in here looking for a way to batch convert things in MacOS, as of right now there is no way to do so. The developers said this about it in Sept. 2022: " Sadly, we do not support batch conversion on macOS notably just because we never wrote a user interface for this." It's theoretically possible but it has simply never been implemented.

Hello. I followed you steps and converted a large fly file.,when i play it back, my Mac plays it back on TV and there is not sound to the playback mp4. Would you have any idea why this is, please?

Ok even though I now view the file with a Quick time icon, it now says this file isn't compatible with QuickTime Player?

I personalised settings and in audio I changed to mp4 audio and this fixed the problem for me

But my DVD is separated into CHAPTERS. How do you rip the individual CHAPTERS?

They did not add the batch convert feature to the mac version. They state this plainly in the forums.

I have been converting some very very old MTS files I found that I did have to tweak the audio setting to mp4 audio, otherwise the video was silent.

Hi there, I've tried converting a video using VLS on Mac air once. It works. But during the video conversion, my mac fan makes some noise. Some people say thats its just the fan doing its work. Is it safe for my mac to do this in the long run? Considering Mac air processor is quite small and limited. Thanks

yes (*facepalms*) it's safe for your mac in the long run. A CPU doesn't get worn out over time!!!

Having a fan running will only benefit your computer. If you're working out and your body heat is rising, there's nothing detrimental about having a fan cool you down :-)

1:46 if you dont customize and audio tab change to AAC you lose sound again from m4v or mkv conversation

What happens with mine when I try: NOT changing to AAC, I lose the audio. If I change it to AAC, I get a failure message telling me that it can't open the audio converter.

It's amazing that everyone promoting this VLC Software is fully aware that IT WILL NOT CONVERT THE AUDIO but they mislead people by just going through with it confidently to end without mentioning that part....very misleading
